Where would you choose to live....?

Where in the UK would you choose to live if given the chance?
I would choose Cornwall.
Apart from being a lovely area, for me, it's the place where one side of my Maternal Great Grandparents are from.
Love the place and would love to find more about how and where they lived.

If I could afford a second home my wife would pick Edinburgh(close to family) but I wouldn't leave the Gold Coast family and friends would stop me choosing to.

Lived abroad for many years and prefer the weather, taxes and lifestyle - obviously they are connected.

Yes I miss people - but not much else!

My son was posted to Barbados for two and a half years, coming back today, and he has told me that he has discovered that while Barbados is a lovely island Jamaica is much less safe with much higher crime rates.Don`t know if you are aware of that hs.

Spent a lot of time in Australia and absolutely loved Port Douglas. Decided to emigrate and got everything in place only for the Mrs to dip out at the last minute due to our parents I’ll health. Definitely a disappointing moment. But if I could I would live there.

As a kid holidaying at relatives in the Oxfordshire area we would always visit Bourton on the Water .... the mini me of yester-year would have chose that as my dream place to live every day of the week.

Now living on the doorstep of the Lake District I’m happy with where I’m living, and it’s perfect for lovely area of open spaces to bring up my kids.

Been on the GC for my 59 years so far, and I can't see any reason to move anywhere else. I like living here and always have. Mrs Dave is originally from the Poole /Bournemouth area, and she has often spoken about us moving down there when we're old (er).

That area and Scotland West Coast have been our favourite places to visit, but I'd like to stay here. A potential argument for the future me thinks.

Yep, Cotswolds for me too.

Stayed in Adlestrop and had a good look around the area on our last holiday. The evocatively named Lower Slaughter was a particular favourite, and Bourton on the water is indeed a lovely village.

Mrs spud seems quite keen on it; suspect it comes of watching too much Agatha Raisin...

I love the Yorkshire Dales but if I lived there it would take away the pleasure of visiting there 🤔
Manchester possibly, failing that will stay in the Pool most likely 👍

I've lived away since 1994, but I still refer to Blackpool as home as that's how it feels.

There is no better road on the planet than the M55 westbound as you invariably have blue sky, and into view come The Tower, Big One, Ferris Wheel and "Welcome to Blackpool"

Every person, in every car is smiling in anticipation of the fun they are about to have.

If MrsTSS ever saw sense and suggested we depart, I'd end up back on the Gold Coast in a heart beat.

Jamaica is not very safe. We strayed out of 'safe area' and was asked for money by a bunch of kids, I shook my head and moved on swiftly, only later to be told the kids all had knives😂

Went out with a taxi driver for trips- Hilton Forsyth was his name and we talked cricket, he wasn't impressed when I told him Clive Lloyd had played cricket with me. Anyway, I wanted to see 'real' Jamaica so headed for Cockpit country, an area in the interior where the Maroons launched attacks on the British imperialistic occupation and back then was inaccessible for the British troops. We arrived at the edge of the town and people were leaning out of windows shouting 'White People', we proceeded to a pretty centre where I said to Hilton, jokingly, 'this is a nice place I think we'll have a walk'. 'Not a good idea mon' was his reply.😂

There is more.....

Where I am, the West Coast of Scotland. Seaside, beautiful scenery, just 30 miles from Glasgow. Downside is missing Pool home games, but I'm still a season ticket holder.

We are currently looking at options when we retire, my kids are way down south, so anywhere from Garstang downwards, maybe Peak District, maybe Shropshire / Mid Wales or even Devon. Obvs close to TGC would be ideal, but Grandkids will be a pull.

There's an old Russian joke from Soviet times:
An old man is asked by his local authority during a census; where were you born? He answered, St. Petersburg. He was then asked where he went to school, he answered, Petrograd. He was then asked where he currently lives. He answered, Leningrad. He was finally asked where he would like to live. He answered, St. Petersburg.

Would move to New York in a heartbeat, family live in upstate New York and have a cabin in the Catskill mountains and a boat on Lake George.
In 3 hours, you can drive to New York City, Montreal, Cape Cod, Boston.....or even moonlight in Vermont

If it was sticking to the UK, I would pick Cheltenham...and especially Montpellier

Yep, been to Jamaica, definitely felt hostile and did the taxi trip with a local, was glad to get back to the hotel

In the UK it would have to be Devon but I've been living in Australia since the 90's and have to say that I don't miss the UK one little bit....

Apart from being able to watch The Mighty in the flesh of course!

I wouldn’t move too far from FY3, maybe a couple of miles east, you know , like Singleton or Weston . It would have to be a big house with a good bit of land , just so I can knock golf balls down the garden !
