Which is your favourite Castle?

Barbara Castle-a great politician and vastly underrated at the time.Did loads for disabled people, introduced child benefits and built the Humber Bridge too. I might have to take this over to the other thread given she was a Euro-sceptic (smiley)

She was hung out to dry by Harold Wilson who made her responsible for selling 'In Place of Strife' to the unions. She had no chance. Wilson should have taken responsibility himself and had he succeeded....no Thatcher.

Never been, but Belvoir Castle has recently gone in as my number one ...... Turns out, the owner, The Duke of Rutland, and I have the same 13th Great Grandmother, so in a very tentative way, it's my castle 😂

Skipton. It reminds me of school trips and my childhood and Skipton remains my happy place and I still visit a few times a year for a chilled out day. Coupled with a drive through the dales. What the hell is not to like 😍
Copper Dragon brewery

It is spectacular. Especially the walk up to it from Craster and then on to the Ship Inn at Low Newton. Bamburgh is also spectacular as you approach from the beach from Seahouses. Beautiful stretch of coastline up there.
Its my 'usual' weekend walk (or Warkworth beach to Alnmouth) but it is a long way to home games and verrrry cold

Can recommend the Lancaster Castle tour if anyone has not done it. 👍

Muncaster is good for a trip out. Just don’t linger in the Tapestry Room.

Best ones are in Northumbria and NE coast as mentioned above. Lindisfarne brilliant. Alnwick is good, but a bit overly commercial/expensive. The gardens are nice in Summer. You can even catch Warkworth on the way up. Chillingham is probably the most scary.

Warwick looks and feels like everything you expect a medieval castle to be.

Tintagel obviously, setting & legend alone.

Dunvegan on Skye, is a hidden gem.

For me it has to be a castle in Scotland, perched on an outcrop in the sea near Stonehaven.

Dunnottar Castle. Amongst those who have been associated with the Castle are William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and the future King Charles II as well as Curryman who used to do their Health and Safety. 🙂

Most famously though, it was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell’s army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the ‘Honours of Scotland’, from destruction.

Neuswanstein Germany.
Incredible. Must be the most beautiful castle in the world.
Been 3 times and would go again.

Lancaster because it's our local, went there as a kid on a Sheave Street day out and loved it ever since.

Caernarfon purely because I won the first of Civil Service national titles practically in its shadow.

Warwick's a great day out, very informative. When I was there two fully dressed knights on destriers were going round the place, and the Fletcher of Warwick was doing a longbow demonstration. I'd recently been reading the Cornwell stories that involved that period - the Grail trilogy and Azincourt - and it was interesting to see it in action. Spoke to him after, I wasn't allowed to shoot one for H&S reasons but he let me hold it. Couldn't believe how light it was, considering it had a draw weight of around 100lbs.

And finally an honourable mention for Scotney, a lovely painting subject I've done several times.

That was on the excellent Susan Calman series touring Scotland. Will add that castle to list of places to visit.
They lowered the Crown Jewels from the castle to a group of women on the beach below to hide for safekeeping 😀👍

Castle Bromwich and in particular their football club. The Baggies fans who said they'd never be rivals will soon be eating their words.

Bosting top team in the West Midlands, duck.

Loads of nice ones near where i live

Rhuddlan, Denbigh, Carnarvon, Ruthin, Conwy, Beaumaris and Chirk

All nice historical places with a constant reminder to the Welsh

Gwrych castle of I'm a celebrity fame is a load of rubbish and isn't even a proper castle
