Whitby , here I come,

Lovely morning in Whitby today and decent forecast for the weekend, enjoy yourself and don't forget to try The Whitby Brewery just opposite the Abbey, lovely spot for a bit of decent beer, providing you can negotiate the 199 steps 😉

We live about 3 miles outside Whitby and it's not raining here ☀️

could you please change your username to reflect your current location please, so that fools like me don't ask you about your thoughts on the carvery near the Gorleston turn off.....😜

Get on the North York Moors Railway - a great heritage line with some fantastic steam engines running trains across the Moors - superb

I could, but I still have loads of friends in Norfolk and especially the area around Yarmouth, so I could still supply that sort of information if required 😉

Hope weather clears up for you, lovely place. Whitby Town Fc good ground near the sea front if you fancy a match.

I've never been anywhere with as many Fish & Chip shops in such a small area in my life, I wonder how many there actually are. We only visited for the day when we were camped at Scarborough. Was allowed on the footplate on the Station at Whitby .

There is a pub by the harbour, where they clear the furniture out on Friday night because the fishermen come in and often fight with them (that's what the barmaid told me!) - however it served one of the best cask pints I've ever had, and it was John Smiths of all things!!! Normally wouldn't drink that if there was any alternative, but this stuff was nectar from heaven!!

Now settled in, were staying just outside in Sleights. The cottage is absolutely fabulous and the owner is a lovely helpful woman. Cloudy but warm presently. Looking forward to exploring the place. A Four mile walk to Whitby, where I've been many times.

Is it the helpful woman who is cloudy but warm? 😉

I went on tripadvisor first best recommended chip shop in Whitby.
The one that came out top was really disappointing.
Mind you they have Yorkshire fisheries as top in Blackpool which I strongly disagree with.

we are in a property next door to it, so will be trying it at least for one night's dinner.;);););)
The Plough just up the hill from you is a decent pub, food is very good in there with a nice beer garden at the rear.
We had fish and chips in there a few weeks back and they were excellent.
We live just over the river in Briggswath, the posh bit of Sleights, so they tell me!
It's a good walk into Whitby along the Esk Valley Way and the added bonus of seeing the NYMR steam trains going into Whitby, if you like that sort of thing. The Bridge Inn at Ruswarp is about halfway if you need refreshments on the way there or back, or both 😉

We walked from Grosmont to Whitby last time we were here, just before the second lock down, and had a couple in the Bridge. Unfortunately today when we reached Ruswarp the place was closed and had a message in the windows saying re-opening soon, which was a bit of a bugger as we all also needed the loo. Finished up in the Little Angel's beer garden, in Whitby, where the Seagulls were gathering to mug anyone not protecting their food properly. Will try the Plough tomorrow which has been designated a quiet day to rest our aching limbs. Age is slowly but surely catching up with me.
