Who’s “not a drinker”

I’ve been on a proper bender this weekend and I can say for sure that I feel horrific today. Exhausted, anxious, guilty and sick. Loved every second of the ride but not t he come down.
Should have banged a couple of Valium up your arse for the comedown…..mellows it right out I hear

I’m in spoons Cleveleys at the moment on San Miguel, think that makes me a drinker. Well I am, as a former free trade representative for Wilsons brewery in Manchester, I consider myself a professional drinker

When GP surgeries ask 'that alcohol question', no one drinks above the recommended limit do they? 😵‍💫
18 months ago, I discovered that I have a genetic blood disorder, which can affect many things, including the liver. So I have to take care with regards to my alcohol intake. I now tend to drink Coke Maxi but will have a drink if I feel like. It wasn't good recently having an all inclusive holiday, with minimum alcohol!
My brother in law was a fit & healthy guy, until for no real reason, alcohol gripped him in his 30's and now he's a real physical mess & living on the streets 😥 He's well beyond help.
It's a matter of each to their own 🧡
Or you give the doc a "conservative estimate" and still get bollocked for it. Oops. Oh well, file alongside five a day and other good advice that will end up completely ignored.

Mates there's a thing. I did the same job for Websters 84 to 87-ish. Those days when we had to take the WM clubs to the races. Jeez! 😂

Wow, I came under Websters for a time around 1970 when Watneys took them over and I was in Wakefield. Brewery visits were horrendous, down as much as thy could, stuffing gateau Into their pockets before they left.

can really take it or leave it these days.... and seem to be leaving ot more and more... the odd 1-2 beers on a Friday or Saturday night watching a film or some football... and I will have a drink in a social occasion like a wedding, or if I am on hols... but can happily go weeks without a drink and months without getting a bit pissed!!! often look back and think how many days I lost with hangovers... and how much money I would spunk ...

the drink culture is a big thing in the UK especially Blackpool - we grow up with it and around it... failrly unique ....

the binge drink culture is very much a UK thing...

I did my three weeks training in South Yorks, Derbyshire and Notts during the Miners' Strike. Talk about in at the deep end 😂
Then they let me loose on Happy Valley.

I worked at Wakefield brewery.
I bet Grand Met had that closed quicker than you could say asset strippers? I was based out of Halifax - the Websters brewery that became a lager factory before biting the dust as well. First place in the UK to brew that godawful US stylee Budweiser stuff. Fosters too.

They kept it going for a few years, I went there in 1969, leaving in 1973, not sure when it closed. As a young Lancastrian trying to sell fizzy southern Red Barrel to miners clubs, it was certainly a challenge. Saturday morning, night, Sunday morning and night committee meetings to attend, dragging a 10 gallon keg out of the boot for them to drink was interesting to say the least.

I learned a thing or two about objection handling. The best one was for Websters Green Label Best though. A died in the wool Stones Bitter fan on the Club Committee told me "there's more hops in a dead frog". Where do you go from that? 😂

Haha, great comment

Trying to cut out midweek drinking and had non alcohol beers last night. Tried Guiness and a pilsner from Aldi.
Both fairly disgusting. Anyone recommend one that is actually drinkable?

Had one once and they had to operate by going up my todger .. nothing else in life will be that bad!!
i've had the camera there 3 times and was informed by the doctor that its the only procedure that is more painful for a man than a woman in the whole medical gamut, not sure if he was trying to placate me though.....!

This thread from Jan has quite a few recommend…..

I do drink wkds and cider but only drink them occasionally like football matches for example as I’ve never have been a heavy drinker

Currently trying not to be a drinker - no drinking in the week the last 3 weeks, and two dry weekends in that time. At the age of 47, I'm struggling with Sunday being a right off, and then feeling tired and depressed until Wednesday at work. I do like a drink so won't say I'm teetotal, but definitely throttling back.

I think he was 😉

Just been in Spain for a couple of weeks. Fantastic. Really lively bars with people of all ages out enjoying themselves until late. No vibe of any trouble at all. The whole of society revolves around the bar and restaurant culture.

Unfortunately pubs are dying in the UK, hundreds have closed every year since the 80's as culture changes ... amongst other reasons. I guess it's a good thing people aren't drinking as much but I think we'll regret losing the community aspect.

Going out is an option, as is drinking alcohol when out.

Me, I love pubs and drinking. Although rarely drink enough to feel it the next day.

I'll be having a drink or two until I snuff it ... with a smile on my face.
