Who’s “not a drinker”

As a kid I was out every weekend getting hammered but after passing my test cars became my love so couldn’t drink. Fast forward to today and I just can’t do the drinking thing. “Nothings better than a cold pint on a hot day”…… no thanks I’d much prefer a coke. I can’t seem to find anything with alcohol that I enjoy that I can drink more than 1.

Fruit ciders I can drink, but 2 and I’m bloated to fook. I have a sweet tooth so can drink alcopops but a few and your mouth and teeth feel grim.

Tried a glass of Red with the wife but again don’t enjoy it.

Done the shorts but always a mixer coke/lemonade etc and again don’t really enjoy and just end up with a coke on its own or a pint of cordial.

Anyone else in the same boat? Feel like I drank myself out in my youth 😞. I have lost 2 people close to me in the past and the missis has said if this could be a contributing factor.

Not interested in getting steaming, but would like to have a nice social drink and enjoy it.

I gave up drinking 4/5 years ago. In my younger years living in Bangor NI as a punk my weekends started on a Tuesday night and finished on a Sunday always gave myself Mondays off. I never knew when to stop or say no more. We drank everything but we found this fizzy apple wine about 10% strength called Broadway 90p a litre and when ice cold you could drink 3 bottles in an hour easy. My favourite tipple was Buckfast, great for a laugh and a fight because you could never remember how much trouble you caused lol.
The highlight of my socialising nowadays is a pint of vimto Sat with my kids telling them that drinking bad for you lol.

Try some cocktails. If youve got a sweet tooth most of the cans you pick up in supermarkets go down like pop anyway. The ones at M&S have a decent shots worth of booze in there aswell much more than the cheap crap from B&Ms etc.

I’ve had a little bit of experience in the way of drinking one or two. However I really am struggling to enjoy a beer or two nowadays. I blame COVID-19.

I used to love a drink in my younger years, but as I got older it became a stress crutch for me and that was not a good thing at all.
After largely quitting about 6 years ago I’ve had a couple of lockdown shandies and tried the odd gin and tonic after much persuasion by friends !
I now cannot tolerate that feeling of not being in control, or, as the cliches would say ‘ the best version of me.’
I know a lot of people don’t get that but I love waking in the morning knowing that every thought I’m having is largely rational and every decision I make, even if not the right one, is made with clarity of mind. And I love the motivation a drink free life brings to the table.

Drank a lot socially when I was young, but I couldn't get close to those volumes nowadays, nor would I want to.
Always drank pints (bitter, lager, cider, Guinness), never wine and very rarely spirits, never really liked them .
Still only drink beer now, so I never really got hooked on the hard stuff, perhaps more through luck than judgement.

I just drink on Friday and Saturday evenings now, and I thoroughly enjoy my beers because I've had 5 days alcohol free. Midweek I enjoy a pint of vimto and don't miss the ale at all.

If I was going out for a few I'd be on decent draught bitter. Just to clarify, that's happened twice in the last 4-5 years.

Love a pint or two at most after a game of bowls, as I'm always driving. Especially in the summer, bitter isn't cold enough so I've developed a knack for lager shandy. Means I can happily have a couple and they're cold enough to do the job. And generally pub lager's not great do I don't mind half of it being lemonade.

If I fancied a decent cold beer I'd get something like Staropramen or Urquell and get it well chilled to come home to.

Pretty much the same here pal, and mostly its just once on a Friday night, I also find that abstinence from alcohol during the week means I look forward to a beer or glass of wine or two at weekends as opposed to it being like just another night, wine is also a good accompaniment to a nice meal.

Good to hear you are off the "DRINK !" and now sober Father Jack.😂

I used to drink a lot socially from the age of 16 into my early 30’s but since then have slowed down massively. I still love a regular drink but never to excess, 2 is enough for me. I’m on my hold now in a cottage on the Norfolk coast, sitting in watching Glastonbury and got an ice cold can of Coke Zero, no alcohol tonight. I couldn’t function if I drank heavily.

Never was much of a drinker in terms of volume, but liked, literally, a couple of pints. Since moving to the Highlands, and having something medical that seems to be much worse if I have even one decent pint, probs down to a couple of glasses of bubbly a year. Still would like to have the odd one now and then, have tried a fair few alcohol free offerings, most are rubbish.

Then again, my colleagues make up for me. I have never worked with as many piss 'eads before.

If you’ve got to stop yourself from having a drink then you’ve got a problem. I’ll have a couple tomorrow and then not drink until Friday

Scrub that I’m off to Corfu on Thursday…

Happy drinker here.

Far too much according to the official line.

Every day pretty much. For many years.

But I’m not that bothered to be honest. We’re here for a good time. Not a long time.

Gym several times a week. Lots of walking to the bottle bank.

Followed by gardening (functional strength training for those who don’t know how hard it is).

I found that a pint and a cigarette were made for each other, since I stopped smoking, alcohol just isn't the same. I still have a few occasionally but that relaxed feeling you got after a few pints has disappeared.

We've just got back after a week at the Ikos, Dassia, what a fantastic hotel pal, one of the very best I've stayed at.

I have to say, as I work outside all day I do like a cold stubby of lager when I get home when the weather has been like it is the last several weeks. I have started drinking a lot of vegetable, tomato and beetroot juice. Has to be ice cold though otherwise it’s disgusting!!

Guiness and blackcurrant, give it a go

Each to their own - love a few pints after a round of golf. Nice G&T in the evening, drop of wine with a meal.
Mate of mine said the other day, if you can't have a drink or two after golf, what's the point of living?
Diet Coke, Vimto? ....... You're - having a larf.

I barely drink now and haven't really since my mid twenties, couple of times a year maybe but never at home. What other people do doesn't really bother me, each to their own. Nothing worse than people trying to judge others by their own views on things whether that's non drinkers to drinkers or drinkers to non drinkers. I'm just as happy sitting with the sun on my face watching my kids playing whether I have a shandy, cider, lemonade or brew. Most important thing for health is to chill and get rid of your stress, does awful things to your body and mind.

I love drinking but I avoid it on school nights. Friday and Saturday always and occasionally Sundays. I’m having one now in Newton food court in Singapore after a long hike through the botanical gardens.

I wouldn't judge anyone for drinking, I've probably put away more than the lot of them combined at some point, I just can't be arsed with it these days.

Drinking too much at the moment as my mum has dementia and it eases the pain . Probably 6 cans a night . Need to knock it on its head sooner rather than later .couldn’t think of not having a drink at night at the moment .
I feel for you. It can help through some emotionally difficult periods but it’s not a long term solution. Hope you are ok.

Try to ensure you still get the basics such as decent diet and a bit of fresh air and exercise, ultimately those are the things that will keep you strong long term ❤️

Drink very little these days…. Still have the occasional blow out at the footy or a party, but prefer a clear head in the main.

From the late 1970's to mid 80's I was serving on one or another of Her Majesty's 'war canoes', where a drinking culture was very much part of day to day life when alongside in port.
I used to be able to 'go ashore' at midday, and just like the majority of the crew was able to continue to get totally leathered into the wee small hours of the following day, and still be up for work stuff at 07.00 that same day.

That behaviour would be classed as 'binge drinking' these days (I would argue however, that I've never drunk 'binge', I was a staunch cheap bitter and lukewarm Guiness man..!)
I would also categorically claim that after about six pints, I immediately became part of the 'Royal Navy disco dancing squad', and was irresistible to women.....!😎

Once I became aware that over indulging in alcohol was detrimental to my brain cells, I decided to save the two that I had left....
They are still there, clinging on for dear life at the back of my skull somewhere.....! 🤣

I much prefer a decent brew nowadays.
This getting old malarkey is no fun....!

"I needed a reason for drinking, and one has just entered my head.
If I can't have a drink while I'm living, how the f**k can I drink when I'm dead...!"
