Who’s confident Evatt can turn things around

First thing is to get them scrapping for it. While options arent great, we've enough quality fit players to still give anyone a game at this level, players just need some belief and to be made to work harder than the opposition.

Then as we get players back fit there is no reason we can't really do something good.

Make no mistake, every managerial appointment comes with risks. Not all can succeed and many don't. That said, Evatt has a very good track record and already has a connection with the fans/club. If we can get a bit more luck on the injury front and the players quickly buy into his plan, I am as confident as anyone can be that we will turn things around. There is no value in thinking otherwise, the only way is up!

Would not have been my choice but good luck to him. Feel better about this appointment than when Bruce was appointed. Let’s hope Sadlers track record of poor managerial choices turns a corner. As well as positive results I would like to see attacking entertaining football eventually. Evatt has a lot to do to turn it around from where we are. The sooner the better. A good helping of patience may be required.

I’m confident he’ll keep us in the league for sure. Sadler needs to back him in January though, even if it’s just one or two additions on loan maybe. But I think someone who knows how to coach properly and will actually take the sessions will be massively beneficial for the players.

I start every new managerial appointment with positive vibes and optimism, so here’s hoping.
Even Bruce got off to a good start!

I think we have to be somewhat realistic at this point. Evatt has a special connection with us and with Crainey, Dobbie, Banks and others in the coaching set up being former players, we have people who care about the success of the club. However, thanks to Bruce and Downes pissing in the wind over summer we have an unfit, under prepared and injury hit squad so Evatt is going to need time to get his ideas across.

Well it’s a tough job without the current injuries / fitness / form to contend with.
5th bottom in this league has been on a downward trend over the last few years. Last 5 seasons the average points to survive has been 45.4 - though considerably brought down by the points per game table for the Covid curtailed season. 10 year average is 47.4 points.
1.2 points per game average from now on is achievable (currently on 0.7 points per game).

Think some dark arts of getting games postponed - given the opportunity- between now & January (clear injuries up / transfer window) should be actively sought. Get on the phone & get some call ups arranged for the Burton game for starters

Fingers crossed for Ian Evatt and Stephen Crainey!

Re Evatt's arrival, for BFC any new appointment is a gamble because we are bottom of table and playing dire football despite players' 'talents on paper'.

We can't just go out and poach an employed successful coach because they would not consider us at this moment in time. Thus, Evatt is as good as it could be now and let's hope supporters, the town, club management and most importantly the players get behind him and Crainey from the off.

Make no mistake about it, relegation is not off the agenda unless the new regime can hit the ground running. Need a couple of wins in the next 2 or 3 and if we get them, who knows where it could lead....

100% confident, but mopping up after Bruce and avoiding the drop is the brief - he can only work with what he’s got, which is a thread-bare defence and no regular goal scorers. That said we have 10 attacking wingers! On paper it’s a tough task, so hoping fans get behind him. Best managerial appointment since Sadler took over - admittedly not hard, but I believe Evatt is a perfect fit. Wasn’t happy about Bruce appointment, this is different. Difficult few weeks ahead though and could be propping up the table for a while.

I’m not expecting anything to change until the injured players are all back as this current squad just isn’t good enough to move us up the table.

Buckle in people it’s going to be a rough month or so.
We're not going to win every game but I disagree about the current squad not being good enough. They're not playing well enough, and that needs to change.

IMO The starting 11 on Saturday, plus Horsfall, Banks, Bowler, Hansson, there are sides in this division who I think would swap their best 15 players for that in a heartbeat.

Lack of a goalscoring striker is tough, and any more injuries it would start to look bad, but with apparently Imray, Hubby and Honeyman not too far away apparently, hopefully we get a bit of luck on that front.

Sounds like set pieces will be the first thing to improve
Yes exactly. I like his emphasis on that as we've been pretty crap in that department so far. 'Small wins' he said, by which he means, firstly, 100% commitment and hard work. Attacking, 'with and without the ball'. 'Improving confidence' also vital. Then going from there to develop an attacking brand of football. He's got his priorities right, he knows what he had to do, and judging by his coaching record to date he has the means to achieve those goals. UTMP.

Like at the start of this season where I was hoping we could grind out a few points until our new (better) players were up to speed, we need to do just that now with what we've got available. There were some positive signs going forward in the first half on Saturday although we could have been punished by sloppy defending early on, if we can cut that out to some extent & keep on the front foot with a solid midfield 3 it's possible. I'm hoping the players respond in the right way & give that bit extra which makes all the difference. I think Evatt has a good chance to do well for us. Time will of course tell on that one.

Fingers crossed but he's walking into being dealt the shittest hand he could be. You can't pick a team out of unavailable injured players. You can't just say you're better than 24th in the league with 9 points, when you're actually 24th out of 24 with nine points. It takes time to turn around a malaise, get everyone fit, confident and going again. Change a mentality and a mindset.

Hopefully he knows some OOC lads who can come in and help in the interim and scrap for every point. Said yesterday that whoever comes in, Evatt or otherwise, is going to need to have clarity in approach like Bowyer when he went in at Burton last year, immediately brought in his template big lad up top and did all the things he usually does that work.

We're in a relegation battle. We've been in a slow death rattle as a club for a while. I don't envy the task in hand and it certainly shouldn't be underestimated.

You'll see a big improvement as soon as Saturday. The attitude and application will be spot on from the players. That's an easy fix for any manager worth his salt

Formation wise? I think he will have seen enough games on TTV to know who's best where and in what set up. Again probably an easy fix as long as he doesn't listen to SD on this.

Results will come, starting with Saturday. Then when the players return, consistency will show itself.

Arse in Burtons window, but not a cat in hell's chance we'll be in a relegation scrap come March/April and I'd wager a top half finish. A good couple of months and I can see Evo persuading SS to give him some dosh and to lock Downes up.

On the interview- same predictable crap really that's really an insult to the brain.

Very positive we shooting up the league he will talk a brand of football the players want and understand. Play offs still on the radar

If we can grind out some results and get a lot of the injured ones back fit I'm pretty confident we'll be closer to playoffs than relegation come the end of the season.

If he replicates statistically what he has attained previously (no good reason why he shouldn't) we will be nearer the top six than the bottom six.

He isn't walking into a club that's either been devoid of League football for decades or one with it's arse out of its trousers financially.

Its a free hit.Bottom of the League with the strongest squad (on paper) we have had in recent times.Enjoy.

Our next three games are winnable, Evo has to get the mentality of the players spot on, no one in this league is going to run away with it.
Get us mid table by Christmas then go from there

Delighted with the appointment but, just miffed as to why Banks is still at the club.
I commented earlier
Tyrer improved, BPF looks a decent addition now, but Bruce threw him under the bus by saying he was defensive coach, when the defence was awful.
I do not believe he was ever the true defensive coach as that makes no sense, Bruce was a defender was he not?
We are not party to what goes on behind the scenes, but think Sadler knew Dobbs and Banks were not to blame for what was happening on the pitch

One big advantage Evo has over the likes of Bruce is that he knows this league well. The players are obviously not his choice but let’s hope he can win them over and get the best out of them cos I don’t think any of them lack ability, just motivation.

I think Evatt will be with us some time. Let’s not forget he turned down championship jobs when he was with Bolton. Sadler and co really need to back him.

Happy and hopefully it goes well. Fans need to be patient though. With the injuries, the clear lack of fitness and him not able to bring his own players in until next year, it is going to be difficult for the first few months.

I would like to see him get the team to attack from the 1st minute not the 80th minute like at Stockport. Ohh and have a few more shots on goal rather than just the one in the entire 90 mins.
Be interesting to see if the ball retention improves as Pool can't keep letting the opposition dominate possession.
Also let's keep a player or two on the halfway line when defending a corner as that keeps at least 3 of the other teams players out of the box.... really can't abide the tactic of everyone in the box.
Probably explains why I'm not a manager.....

At the risk of being a killjoy, I think some are getting carried away and are too quick to dismiss our current predicament.
I believe Evatt will improve us, and we have what it takes to stay up. But I don't think we'll get an instant turnaround. We haven't controlled a single game this season, and most of our best players are injured until after Christmas. I personally think it'll be early new year before we can put any kind of run together. Evatt is going to need significant patience from the fans.
In the short term, I think we should be looking for improvements in fitness and work rate even if results don't come immediately.

That's the thing that I think is an easy fix. It shouldn't be difficult to get the players focused and working like nutters and all for each other.
