Who is our realistic New Year target?

Any names? Not seen many banded around. Is there someone out there who could make a massive impact to this side and did we have such a player arrive in either 06/07 or 09/10?
 
I'll let NC and his recruitment team do the scouting but we need a different attacking option in my opinion, the Yates Madine pairing has stabilized us but we don't score enough. I think it's obvious that this is where we need to improve. It could be the difference between getting promotion or not, so I think it's likely to be addressed. We've built a strong side but we need more potency.
 
No point trying to predict after we scouted someone from the Norwegian leagues.

The net is cast far and wide it seems!
 
Young talent in the English leagues tend to be massively over valued. We’re best off following a Brentford model of scouting youth from abroad.

we’ve already done similar with Gretarsson, I just hope we continue that strategy

We can’t. Brexitbollox rules apply from January so chances of getting a work permit for anyone who isn’t an established full international is slim.
 
On the highlights shows they always go on about our threat up front and how good we are going forward. It isn't quite clicking, it could be that Yates although he never stops running is not quite running in the right channels for that final through ball. He's got better since he was partnered with Madine and will probably continue to improve but he would learn a lot from someone like Billy Sharpe who works and runs hard but always into dangerous areas. Madine will chip in with a few but that isn't really his game, he is there to create space for others in a physical battle with big central defenders.

We aren't far off and some team is going to face a real pasting when it does all click.
 
I can see us moving to a quick front 3 with better movement and link up at some point, and that would likely mean no place for Yates or Madine. Maybe Yates on the left but I doubt it. We just need to find the right players.
 
I dunno who we might have lined up... but I'm excited about who it might be all the same. I don't mean a big name... I just mean from what we've got so far then a player or two who will come in to their own given a few games.

All that said, I'm still thinking this season might end up with us in the same league next. Which wouldn't be the end of the world as I think if that's the case we'd be one of if not THE favourites next season. A summer to work and improve an already capable squad for either eventuality would be nice

Seamus Coleman I'm sure was a January signing in 09/10, as for 06/07 I think that Robbie Williams was on loan since January that season. edited to add Paul Rachubka to the list of players from January onwards that season.

Be interesting to see if he extends Woodburn's deal and whether he sees something in him which would mean he'd play some sort of role in the second half of the season. Must say I've not seen it so far and you don't want us returning a player to Liverpool low on confidence.
 
Pretty sure if we do sign someone, it will be confirmed before any rumours circulate.
Hard to fault the business done so far especially with the salary cap constraint, as both Sarkic and Mitchell may yet come good and Lubala has already shown glimpses
