Who would promotion not suit?

There is always that thing that sometimes whilst fans love promotions it can be a headache for some at the club.
Mainly players who can't step up but of course sometimes it comes too soon for managers, for club plans and even for owners.

I only say this as there was an interesting piece about Wycombe I was reading at the weekend and that exact thing has happened to them although like salt in the wound, the fact they've not had any financial advantage means they could be paying for this season for years to come.

I'm pretty sure our owner would be delighted with a promotion. It's never the wrong time to be promoted.

It is rumoured that when the Nobbers got within touching distance of the premier league a few years ago , the players had a meeting and came to the conclusion that if they got promoted the vast majority of them would instantly become surplus to requirements . They barely won again .

It's often the wrong time to talk about Promotion.
Just ask Nottingham Forest in May 2010, who were publishing details of Coach travel to Wembley after the Semi Final 1st Leg.
Did they do that? I thought that was us after our first leg against Bradford, we printed travel information to Wembley in our programme after the 2 - 0 win away.

Printing coach travel to Wembley after a 1 - 0 defeat is absolutely insane if true, its bad enough doing it after a 2 - 0 away win.

Sounds like the Nobbers making up excuses for being shite 😉

...or saying 'job done' after the first leg.😄

Probably the biggest problem would be scouting and recruitment. I would imagine our new head of football operations, will have to plan two scenarios promotion and being league one next season. I am sure we will be scouting two sets of players right now with this in mind.
It will be totally different from the previous promotions under the Oystons.

As for the players not wanting promotion for personal reasons, this isn't a problem if the promotion bonus is big enough.

I said this time last year that it might have been a blessing in disguise for Fleetwood not to go up given the pending circumstances around closures due to Covid. Looks like Wycombe have confirmed what I suspected. A sudden season with bigger wages combined with little additional income streams would have been a challenge for any club promoted back then. At least there is a chance of crowds next season for the clubs going up this time.

Can we not go one day on here without having to mention the actual name of the previous owners.
Some of us are trying to forget them and move on.
They will be loving the publicity they are still getting.

If you get a chance to get promoted you take it. Even if you aren’t financially able to compete in the championship, like Wycombe, you take the money and come down stronger than when you got promoted. Simple as that

I think we probably have a core of XI players who could step up but would then need another XI better than what we have now.
