Who would you name a new East Stand after?

Alan Ball, yes before my time as a player and fantastic I bet he was, but that managerial stint where he almost financially crucified the club leaves a bitter taste for me that will forever linger. I accept the generation part, but for me as a man, as a manager, as an inspirational leader it's Billy Ayre.

I'll go for the Curryman Stand just so you can all remember me when I've met my maker.🤣

If not, I would name it the New Era Stand, which we are beginning.

How about a stand dedicated to the memory of all the Seasiders, be they players or supporters, that are no longer with us.
Maybe could incorporate a huge photographic tribute to them in the concourse.
So something like the Seasiders Forever Memorial Stand.

The 2010 stand, with an executive box dedicated to the players of the Prem season.

“This is the best trip I’ve ever been on” plastered across the top of the stand.

You’re right 20s l was thinking of Fred Pickering but that’s down to the demographics of this board l suppose, Bretts a good shout as he’s played for us and scored in all four divisions. However, l do think that the younger generation relate more to Charlie from a heroic and legend perspective.
Harry Johnson stand

Perhaps there's no obvious stand out choice, which is actually ok.
The icons of the club are remembered by decade under the west stand. Can't remember whether there's a managers part as well? But as 'voted for' icons of the club, would that be a shortlist we could vote on?
Or is there a Blackpool-born non-footballer? Just a thought.
We need a shortlist.

Belokon?
Without him no Prem & we wouldn't be where we are now.
Probably no club with covid under the scum?
I think he did alright out of us, between he and Owen albeit with far better intentions. 62 million of the queens English pounds left our football club. He was instrumental in the demise of The Os and I am forever thankful for that but I wouldn’t want a stand naming after him.

While we debate whether to name a stand after a world cup winner, an inspirational manager, the king or a player that's scored in every division for us, we also have stands named after the only scorer of a hat trick in a fa cup final, the 1st footballing knight and ballon d'or winner and a world cup winner and 1 club man.

Meanwhile down the road the Nobbers name their stands after a plumber, the manager of another famous club, Lorraine Kelly's dad and a team that won something before dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Thank God I'm a Blackpool fan🙏

Tony Green would get my vote, a Great of the game and a stalwartTangerine 🍊 be nice to honour a true Pool legend that is a true supporter.

A plumber, how dare you call one of the greatest players this country has ever produced. Just like your Sir Stanley Mathews, Sir Tom Finney will forever be held inthe highest regard. Hang your head in shame, tosser.

Was he or was he not nicknamed the Preston PLUMBER.

Now go fuck yourself

I have said nothing factually wrong in my statement regarding the Preston plumber, it's you that got the hump.
Nite nite😘

The problem with this thread is there are a lot of names that youngsters won't know and I'd say that we need too start bringing the club a bit more up to date. In recognition of the fact that he scored in all four divisions and is still very much a part of Blackpool these days, I would go for the Brett Ormerod stand.

Okay so just read through the thread and put together names and how many times they've been mentioned/voted for, this isn't completely accurate as people weren't doing it as a proper vote and sometimes mentioned two names - I'm sure it'd be extremely difficult for us all if it actually came down to naming a definitive person. (good timing NMT as I was just about to post it without your Ormerod vote):

As others have said, amazing for little ol' Blackpool to have so many significant players to argue over - and that is with 3 stands already being named after 3 of our legends!

Interesting to see three names take joint at the top thus far, Alan Ball, Billy Ayre and Joe Smith and three names take joint second Brett Ormerod, Simon Sadler and Tony Green!

Maybe we could have a stand named after a crap player so we don't get above ourselves.

We've got a grand history but we've also been rubbish a lot, so if we've got an Armfield and Matthews and Mortenson we could also have a Chris Malkin Stand with a Tony Diamond concourse and Ben Dixon Bar. Udo Onware Executive boxes and so on.

Then the people who go to the match and just mutter 'he's shite' and 'rubbish, get him off' could feel right at home.
.... or
A shite manager.... how about The Graham Carr Stand? We could celebrate the fact that his dubious short spell at the helm at least opened the door for Billy Ayre!

I'm pretty sure that younger Wolves fans wouldn't know Billy Wright
The same with young Leeds fans and Billy Bremner.
You'll find that most, if not all statues and naming parts of a stadia are attributed to players that have attained something significant in their history of the club.

I love Billy Ayre as much as the next Pool fan but a 4th division playoff win as opposed to winning the world cup winners medal?🤷‍♂️

I agree with you on the Billy Ayre comment, as much as he's a fan favourite - I think it'd be a bit of a discredit to some of our legends who achieved more than a promotion from the 4th division. Not taking anything away from that but Brett is a better shout for a modern legend, scored in all 4 divisions for the club and put us in the Premier League (although my vote is for Joe Smith).

1953 Stand
Brett Ormerod stand
Harry Johnston stand
Bill Perry Stand
Alan Ball stand

Also think down the line there should be another marbel piece as you go into reception of the 2010 Play off win facing the 53 win

also down the line would be great to see a Stanley Matthews statue

If it's having facilities in it, we could have the Muggers Megastore, Clarke cloakroom, Worthington winebar, Braveheart buffet. (Or 'Colin's concourse' plus the Larry (mk2) lounge

That should keep our feet firmly on the ground!

Billy Ayre is a romantic notion but not with wide appeal to the younger generation . It has to be the player who scored in every league for us including in the playoff final. The ormerod stand.

The man who has transformed this football club from a laughing stock to a position of respect and even envy from other clubs who are not blessed with a leader of his local pride and ambition.

SIMON SADLER

As a proud nobber, please please don’t call it the Ray Charnley stand. He still haunts me all these years after his hat trick many moons ago at Deepdale. Honestly have to admit it , it was one of the best centre forward displays I had the privilege to witness.
