Who would you name a new East Stand after?

Just watched a video that the Blackpool FC fb page has put up of the day the Armfield Stand opened and reminded me of a great game against Crystal Palace where we came back from 2 - 0 down that I'd completely forgot about. Had footage of Jimmy Armfield opening the stand and having a guard of honour before the game.

With plans somewhere in the pipeline, if the decision was down to you, who would you name and dedicate the permanent East Stand after and why?

Alan Ball or Alan Suddick.

A good question.

Understand where Wizz is coming from with his suggestions but I feel it doesn't have to be a player from so long ago that the vast majority of our fans have never seen them play. Nowt wrong for me with coming more upto date and whereas he was far from one of my favourite players I wouldn't have a problem with nominating Brett Ormerod. A player who played and scored for us in all four divisions and who was part of the best time of our lives in the last fifty or sixty years.

Could do similar to Knob End and have a stand named after someone whose remembered more for being at another club.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Emlyn Hughes east stand.

Nah, I'd suggest a world cup winner, even the youngsters would know a world cup winner.

Bally for me👍

The Safe standing- East paddock would do for me not fussed if it has an ex players name above it would rather bring in some extra revenue sponsored by.................?

You’re right 20s l was thinking of Fred Pickering but that’s down to the demographics of this board l suppose, Bretts a good shout as he’s played for us and scored in all four divisions. However, l do think that the younger generation relate more to Charlie from a heroic and legend perspective.

I'm with Wiz on this.......The Alan Ball Stand

When naming stands, it needs to reflect the best moments in a clubs history. It should be a source of pride for all pool fans that we have:

- Two players that played in the 1953 cup final
- The very first winner of the Ballon d'Or
- The player that holds the record club appearances and was a one club man

Alan Ball was a world cup winner while at Blackpool. Only a select few clubs can boast that, and is another part of our history that we should be proud of when we were at a much higher level. So it should be him.

I'd rather Billy Ayre and Brett Ormerod had other things named after them, a supporters bar maybe, or some kind of involvement with the training ground name or something.

Agree, maybe King Billy's Bar somewhere in the ground

Isnt it great that for a club that has won relatively little, and with a modest fan base, we have so many players, managers and people associated with the club that are heroes and legends to us?

Such a tragedy too to die so young Jimmy Hampson. Just three caps for England, but five goals in those three games! And 248 goals in 361 League games for Blackpool.

Exactly. 11 years with us, fabulous player (I presume! Can't have been lucky 248 times). I can't think of anyone else with that record. Still record scorer all these years later.

Must have been nearly as good as super Gnands

It is awesome. Another is Joe Smith of course. Manager from 1935 to 1958. In only his second season he took Blackpool up to the top flight, where they remained of course throughout his entire tenure as manager, and were one of the most successful and popular clubs in the country.

Excellent shout.

Listening to all the suggestions reminds me just what a great club we support, however I would go for either Alan Ball or Jimmy Hampton. Oh and nice to have a discussion about football for a change🙂

I know people are coming up with names from a long time ago. No-one has mentioned Tony Green, many peoples of a certain age favourite player. A hero, a legend for so many and committed himself to the town locally once injury cut short his career.
Good shout that, Tony Green.

Maybe we could have a stand named after a crap player so we don't get above ourselves.

We've got a grand history but we've also been rubbish a lot, so if we've got an Armfield and Matthews and Mortenson we could also have a Chris Malkin Stand with a Tony Diamond concourse and Ben Dixon Bar. Udo Onware Executive boxes and so on.

Then the people who go to the match and just mutter 'he's shite' and 'rubbish, get him off' could feel right at home.
