Wigan Athletic v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 26.01.21

He's not playing well that's a fact BUT I know he can play better.

Virtue is having a bad time of it but he's playing out of position tonight to be fair. Don't think he should be judged too harshly on that - but have been a little underwhelmed by him in general so far since he has been back. Hope he can come good.

I know he’s been out for a long time , if he ran out of steam I could understand it. But it’s not that, his touch and ability to pick a pass have just gone.
After being injured for as long as he has been, it is gonna take him a while to get back up to full speed. Don't forget he's also playing in an unfamiliar position alongside team mates he's probably never played with before.

Lost 1 I think of there last 6 games, there’s a player in Bez waiting to just come out, looked much better defensively tonight, he needs a goal to get him off and running.
What ever the stats are Wigan are without doubt the worst side in this league.

Yes he does need a goal but the chances of a 30 yard screamer are very very low.

I think we’re scrapping the barrel finding positives in his defending, not exactly what we’ve signed him for.

Wouldn't say we deserve to be 2-0 up. But Wigan are poor and vulnerable at the back. It's nice to see us show some cutting edge in front of goal for once though 👍

Like others have said. This is far from our strongest team but let's get the result and get out of there. Re-group and go again with some confidence gained.

We seem so disjointed and we struggle to string any amount of passes together. It seems we have no identity whatsoever. I guess that's what comes with a different side each week. Sometimes through no fault of our own. Sometimes due to Critchley and his tinkering ways. It would be nice to see us get a settled side with our best players available for selection.
How many times have we played well but failed to convert chances? They've come here and we've put them away.

You’re easily pleased Wiz. He’s on a par with Mark Cullen, he puts himself about a bit but he just hasn’t, in my opinion, got it I’m sorry. He plays nearly every game, 90 minutes, you’re bound to get a few goals he’s not that bad. The question is would he get goals away at Portsmouth Sunderland Charlton Lincoln when it really matters? I’m not so sure
That is priceless! Hilarious, but not in a good way.

We’ve now got 31 points, charlton are 6th with 49, but have played 3 games more and Sunderland are 7th with 37 having played 1 game more. How did that happen?

I hope he does I’ve always liked him and still do, but since he came back he’s just a passenger. Having said that I hope he gets back to his best.👍

Hoping we can get Stewart on for a short while...Virtue was abysmal in that half and Robson wasnt much better...maybe Kai Kai for Virtue and Stewart and Williams as the holding midfielders...Simms for Lubala and Yates swaps to left midfield

Plenty of positives..M J Williams, Thorniley, Marv, Gabriel, Madine, Yates

Can't work out if they're just a team of wussies or they go down like a sack of spuds when they get to within a feet of one of our players.

Weird stats, we had 38% possession but had 11 shots to their 4.
Tells me it's not what you've got but what you do with it that counts!

My last visit to the DW was Oyston's freebie when we survived under Barry Ferguson and I foolhardily thought that we'd learn from that!

Dont dislike any of them but Husband not my favourite player and Virtue not doing it out there on the right but obviously not where he wants to be playing.
What I will say based on the first half, Critchley has created a great team spirit, they all work hard and are fully committed.
🧐
