Will Husband renewing or not be an indication..

..of what we can expect ambition wise this summer?

He’s 30 now, so you’d expect his next contract to be his most crucial. He’ll want to see his years out playing at the highest level possible. Jimmy’s a better player than Turton and he managed to wangle a Championship deal.

The fact nothings been sorted yet, when the club clearly had every indication of entering negotiations suggests he’s something to mull over. For me if he renews it surely shows certain assurances have been made to him that we will rebuild and be stronger next season. And if he doesn’t, and especially if he doesn’t and goes to a rival League One club, it may be an indication we should perhaps be fearful of what to expect this summer transfer wise.

I would like him to stay but I'm not over bothered abut him as a player

My issue is more the lack of leaders in our squad, we have zero fight or heart in our team, Critchley has created a side full of pussies and at least Husband shows some guts
I’d like him to stay personally. But ability aside, I just worry if he doesn’t it could be down to the club not being able to commit to certain things he wanted assured of.

I’d like him to stay but if he’s asking for big money and a contract length we’re not comfortable with then perhaps we’re better moving on.

He’s not irreplaceable.

Apparently Husband has already turned down 2 contract offers, he's on decent money but if he's going to be a regular starter again it's far from crazy money for an experienced league one defender.

I'd imagine his agent has been very busy on his behalf and that 2 year + 1 offers are out there, maybe less money, but longer deal.

I think he'll leave.

The club have the option to extend Husband's contract one further year, so the fact that this is being negotiated means we must be trying to reduce his wages.
Husband is a solid left back (a position we don't currently use) but a poor centre back or wingback.
Probably quite easy to replace with an equal level player on a lower wage such as Will Ferry (Cheltenham) or Rio Adebisi (Crewe) - both out of contract too.

There is no option on Husband, that was initiated last year.

14 June 2021
James Husband signs a 2yr +1yr option deal.

Fantastic start to the season, firm drifted. Glimpses back in certain games but that killer first goal at Reading was solely down to him and no one else.
Thanks for all the wonderful memories, including your shithousery towards the knobber fans but time to go.
