Wimbledon Tennis Thread

Watching Sinner in action for the first time right now. He has a hell of a serve on him.

Enjoyed the Fritz v Mpperri/perri/petship/picard...French fella match.
Both seemed to be serving powerfully and accurately in the first couple of sets and I was sorry when play was suspended

Interesting Jack Draper is out - rumoured nowadays to be getting more for modelling than tennis. Bit like thatTeam GB Padel Boarder who went on only fans and went from £12k a year to £250k. To some degree I think Jake Daniels opportunities away from football arguably cost him his career.

Watched a little of the highlights show yesterday & realised I don’t know the players anymore. One thing that bugs me are some of the women that make a noise like half an orgasm every time they hit the ball. Let’s start an anti grunting campaign. 🙄

My four sports growing up watching and playing were always Football , Golf, Cricket and Tennis. While the other three still remain , watching wise into my 60's, tennis has gone for me and I've been like that in the last 10 to 15 years. It does absolutely nothing for me anymore and I just find it long and boring. I can't quite understand what's changed with me from loving it to it won't hold my attention for more than 5 mins.
Just one thing i always find odd though is the amount of women who say Wimbledon is my time to watch sport and get excited over the two weeks and then never watch another tennis match for the next 50 weeks. Surely if you love something you'd watch it more than 2 weeks of the year.

Damn right....

I asked my Missus why she didn't grunt like that when we were at it.....
She said I was shoite at tennis! 🥴

Sonay Kartel has been impressive in her matchup today. Just needs to hold her nerve now.

Just watching Raducanu vs Sabalenka……this Sabalenka woman needs to learn to stfu…..getting louder and louder the more under pressure she gets. No need for it.

I'm the same but on Monday I met a pal in Manchester city centre and noticed Wimbledon on a big outdoor screen. I've watched a fair bit this last week and have got back into it. You just need a close hard fought match, often on an outside court, and it gets interesting. I look at at the live scores on the BBC website and pick a game and then find it on iPlayer. Great service from the BBC.

You've got to say that judging on the Brits performance this year, we have a decent set of players going forward to not just rely on a Henman or a Murray. Just watching Norrie - looks decent.

One of my sons and his wife were at Centre Court yesterday to see Sinner, Djokovic, and others. Some fantastic play by Djokovic. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins another grand slam.

Next 2 or 3 years could be quite exciting. A few Brit. Players in their early 20 s already won against much higher ranked players. Also , for some reason, we're pretty rich in doubles talent .
Hoping to see a few of our juniors doing well in the later stages too.
Finally seeing a bit of an upward stir in the British game . About time. Millions been poured in over the years

Terrific win for Cam Norrie to reach the quarter finals but he'll know the trip most probably ends there, Alcatraz should be too good for him.

glad Sabalenka won that. Siegmund took slow play to a new level. And it was so blatant. Average time between points supposed to be 25 seconds and she was averaging 35. Only got one warning so thought that was poor by the umpire.

Just seen a couple of consecutive interviews courtside.
Billie-Jean, Martina and Chrissie interviewed by Clare B.
Odd one out?
Never a fan of the former Mrs. Lloyd, but felt a bit for her there.
Next minute she's gone and Tracy Austin has replaced her. Hope they don't eat TA alive ( well not on screen anyway)
BJ (ooh, err) and MN were truly great champions, btw and I apologise if this post is perceived, by some, as inappropriate.

Not really clued up with tennis these days. But I’m watching the final & I can’t be neutral. I want Sinner to win but think Alcaraz will be champion.
