Woke mob - Preston Grashoppers rugby club cancel Farage - Now at AFC Fylde

I’am still getting over the shock of the racist tabloid of the Indians in the illuminations by the woke headbangers.

And now a cancer charity/hospice are losing out because the same head bangers are up in arms once again.

Embarrassingly despicable act and those responsible needs to hang their heads in shame. 👎

So whats Nigel done wrong here then?

That horrible man who agreed to do an event telling people about his life with the proceeds going to charity.
Take it up with Grassshoppers. They're the ones who took a booking under false pretences then found it was a deceitful politician using deceit to secure a venue 😉 🤣

Gave in, or listened to the majority of their members?
From the sounds of it a few politically active members and the social media mob with eu flags on their twitter.

Clearly making it political when it was supposed to be an event about his life for a good cause.

Lets face it you cant deny many haven't let it go and never will about the eu referendum and are incredibly bitter about it.

Seems there were a lot who were going to the event so it may be a lot more are a bit annoyed about it than the few members, who got it cancelled.

By probably not wanting to be political the club cancelling it is more political.

The club are fully entitled to cancel anyone they don't see as befitting their club members, especially if it was done under false pretences. They clearly don't want to get involved in the politics of it all, fair enough to them. I see the laughable GB channel have made a big issue out of it and as Bside the Cside said, it's political points scoring by someone desperately trying to stay relevant.

Lets not pretend it was some fishing post it was a poorly judged comparison.
Not at all. As it's apparently 'woke' to 'cancel' Farage, is it open season? Should anyone be allowed to charge to hold a function, or are there limits? Just wondering what is deemed acceptable by the right.

As has been said, a replacement speaker can be found, as after all, it’s about Charity. I’d happily offer my services on the downs & occasional ups of supporting Pool over 40 years. They’d be paying to get out!

His life in politics. How political do you want it? It would have been a whinge fest about how everyone was against him but he still triumphed in 'causing a revolution without a shot being fired' (leaving aside the one to Jo Cox).

Life in politics? Maybe the members didn't want a depressing evening listening to a man reel off record of defeats?

It'd be like an evening with Neil Mcdonald.

I think to be classed as a 'successful' politician you probably need to win an election at some point.

'Populist Rabble Rouser' might be more apt.
Well he was up against a fierce opponent, the media and once you're tainted its hard.

He did have a big influence though still, which is why a lot of people hate him.

We're on about politicians who are in mainstream debates here which Nigel was.

Not some nutty guy found guilty of terrorism or another comparison above to Saville, who was a pervert, pedo, rapist, potential necrophiliac too....

I'm sure they'll still raise plenty of money for St. Catherine's with an alternative speaker.
Not really, there will always be other events but apparently it was 75 quid a head 😯

Those who have booked for Nigel (of which there will have been more than 130 ish to be a 5 figure amount, could be a lot more) aren't going to book for some randomer.

Fair enough.

Or, just maybe, no one was interested, so I'll play the victim and say I've been cancelled. Only one side has been heard here.

Doubt it, no evidence to suggest that and would be easy for the club to call that one out and defend themselves.

Strange comment that's adds nothing to the issue. Is that your version of cancel culture by calling someone. I don't like Farage one bit, how does that fall under angry and bitter?
It actually amuses me how you and a few others on here get so worked up about things like this. If you don't like Farage's opinion, then don't listen to it. Keep your blood pressure under control.

I wonder what his loose ends in Brussels were?

Good chance it was signing off on his pension, fûcking hypocrite.

Another side

Coun Potter, who supports the club, said: "It was supposed to be a private function, but I think it’s a risk, taking on someone as divisive as Nigel Farage. I could not believe that they had made that decision.

“The event has now been cancelled, which I am happy with. I was not the first person to have seen it; a few people were cutting up their membership cards, and I thought, what’s that about? Then I heard other reports on the junior sections – that parents had decided not to take their kids to training that morning.

“If you have people with very strong views in your club, you have to expect some people will be very upset, that is their freedom to take their money away. Farage is a horrible, horrible person, and the only power I had was to withdraw my support for the club.

"I’m a member of the club, it’s an amazing club and does loads of brilliant things for the community, but all I could do was to withdraw my membership and my support of the club."

In response to the event, a number of residents vented their frustration on Twitter, Hussein Khambalia wrote: "Is this a joke? How can you justify giving this bigot a platform at what is supposed to be an inclusive community rugby club.

"You are supposed to be helping to increase participation in rugby from all communities and backgrounds, not inviting racists to lecture us."

So that article makes it worse, some of the pathetic reactions from people over an event for charity.

People who have clearly bought fully into the medias bashing of Farage.

Is he perfect? No. Is he controversial, at times yes. A racist, no.

So it's a typical reaction from some of the left.

Some of the people who called him a bigot are bigoted themselves, they were remoaners who can't let go.

Imagine people canceling a corbyn one for charity from crowd pressure etc.

The media would be all over it and balming the 'far right' for losing the hospice money etc.

Some people should have just got a grip.

Don't like it, don't go, think of the cash for the hospice and put that first.

So there's a short term slight cash input to the hospital, but not a massive amount that will change things versus losing long term local community support of the vast majority.

Tricky decision.

Not tricky at all, the question is what kind of members does that rugby club have? What about the people who would have supported that event, shouldn't they have had a say? It seems to becoming a trend now to try and get events cancelled because of some silly dislike. If it was something like a Brownshirt or Ku Klux Klan rally I could understand it but just a politician or comedian that is not liked, bloody ridiculous and infantile.

Are they actually losing support though? 2 membership cards cut up, a few people didn't take their kids to practice and some random anti brexit twitter people upset.

There was at least 130 people going according to the maths, so seems more might be upset for them cancelling?

He's not just a politician. He's a blatant racist. Maybe it was members who don't like racists who objected.

He is also a liar. I bet the charity was just a cover up to try to get the event on.

It’s stopping free speech. It’s not hate speech. He says nothing illegal. Therefore it’s just that he’s saying things you or others don’t like or agree with. And you can’t cope with that why? Are we really that sensitive?

Apparently so.

I’m no fan of Farage but he should be allowed to speak.

Then his words can be heard and scrutinised. If he’s lying and says racist things then he’ll hang himself.

Maybe the locals didn’t want to hear about another 1,000 illegal immigrants which arrived in the last 24 hours. That’s racist. So they put their hands over their ears and hope the immigrants don’t come to live in their back yard.
It’s only another 1,000 after all. We’re a big rich country.
1,000 yesterday. Keep them coming. It’s racist and bigoted to suggest anything else for these poor people. We’ve caused it I’m sure with our privilege and world wide interventions. Ultimately we don’t deserve to live in this country anymore than those fleeing from Sudan or Iraq etc. Let them all in. Why should we live in relative peace and comfort when they’re fleeing for their lives from errrr France?
All under the watch of a decade of Tory rule elected on the basis of control of our borders. They're unable to keep a single promise. Utterly unfit for purpose.

Or is it Corbyns fault?

Farage has been speaking against the Tory’s on this topic. Surely that’s a reason to let him be heard? Of course now it’s undeniable due to the scale, so folk will say he had nothing at all to do with exposing it. But they’ll call him a liar. 🤣🤷‍♂️

It’s quite pertinent you mention Corbyn. They’re two polar opposites who are quite extreme with their views.

Corbyn was given a huge platform to share his views and ideologies. He was heard and roundly rejected. But he wasn’t shut down and silenced. Like I say, let’s hear people in a country where we value free speech. Let them hang themselves exactly like your hero did.

He's not my hero and I haven't said I'd cancel Farage.

Every time he's stood in a General election in seats that looked ripe for exploitation for his nonsense, the electorate have ensured he's lost his deposit. He's had enough chances. He should stop.

Well it was Farage who thought it a clever idea to make France an enemy and has caused illegal boat crossings to have gone from under 2,000 before Brexit to 23,000 now. Yet another Project Fear warning that has become Project Reality. Why would locals want to hear from the pillock who caused the problem?

There's hypocrisy on a grand scale on this thread.
Farage and Corbyn. Two ends of the political spectrum.
One an alleged liar and racist.
The other an alleged terrorist sympathiser and racist.
One you saw no problem giving a platform to and voting for in an election.
The other you want silencing.
But you'd be the first to object if we lost our valued right to free speech.
What a bunch of hypocrites.

So anyone thinking Farage is a disingenuous bell end automatically thinks Corbyn is/was the answer? Aye ok.

Nail on head there Rusty. 👍

Let’s not forget you got tarnished with the racist card on here when you wanted to stop the thousands coming here by boat.

I often wonder how many of these people who shouted out ‘racist’ have actually opened up their houses and took them in?

🙄 Do you also wonder what Rusty did to stop the thousands coming here by boat

Greta breathed in oxygen today and breathed out carbon dioxide. What a fecking hypocrite 😱

In that case, we are all culprits. Anyone having kids is only adding to the problem. Greta must be ashamed of her parents that they had her. Maybe Insulate Britain should educate people to stop shagging instead of sticking their faces to asphalt.

Bet half their members are Thatcherites. Now she would have given Nigel a run for his money on the divisive selfish stakes. Incidentally I would have paid to listen to her or Nigel for charity despite being more on the left.
