Why is it now nearly the same priority as mens?

Just watching Sky Sports News and Spurs are on the vid printer twice, with no description of which is mens and womans.

Woman are shite in the sports I care about - Cricket, Football and Rugby Union.

....and by the way I do not want someone who has not played at the mens highest level commentating or being a pundit on top end mens sport.

Come on sky, let me pay for just mens sport - and I wonder what percentage of my subscription you will still want?

I think the answer will say it all.

Tin hat on to all wokes out there.

Couldn't agree more - I can't stand women's sport - football, cricket, golf, rugby EVERYTHING!!!!! At half time in the Spurs match they've just shown an ad for netball and we were both like "who cares"!!!!! Can't bear women commentators/pundits either - my pet hate is Sue Smith 🤮

Women's sport probably accounts for 5% of the output on sports TV, if that..., does that and the occasional result in the vid printer ( they only normally play on a sunday) make you feel threatened?

Not threatened - just couldn’t give a shite about it.

You miss the point - I don’t want someone who has never played a five day test commentating on the game 👍

The idea you need to have played at the highest level to commentate or comment? Where has this come from. I've seen it 3 separate times this weekend as a reason why women aren't suitable as sports journalists.

I don't recall John Motson, Brian Moore, Kenneth Wolstenholme, Hugh Johns, Barry Davies, Clive Tyldsley, Peter Jones, Mike Ingham, Gary Newbond, Jonathan Pierce, Alan Green, Connor Macnamera, David Oates (rip), Bryan Butler, Tony Gibbs, the blessed Chissy, Guy Havard, the Sam Matterfacewosshisface, Des Lynam, Elton Welsby (is a wanker) Steve Ryder, SonofTam, the bloke who anchored the preview show on Friday or just about any other male commentator/reporter/presenter I can think of having 'played the game at the highest level' and thus I don't understand the point at all.

Are we saying that having say, Lala on the podcast would render it unlistenable as opposed to having say, Phil or Sean?

*Get Phil on the podcast again!

I look forward to seeing Lala on National tv as a pundit 👍

I agree with you about that. It's the other stuff you wrote. If you don't like it then don't watch it, it's not forced on you and is dwarfed by the men's stuff. A result coming on the vid printer bothers you? Really?
You might think they are shite at what they do but they are the best they can be and dedicated their lives to it.

I am not interested in it and turned off SkySports news because of it.

Which annoys me because I am interested in the mens sports side.

My other point is the vid printer had Spurs on it twice and didn’t disguingish between the two.

For all the criticism I bet the top womens' players are earning a lot more than most on here.
Tin Hat on. 🙄
Maybe 'earning' was the wrong word?

In no way does women's sport dominate sky sports news. Anything that is on there lasts for a matter of minutes anyway before it moves on to something else. That's how the channel works. Not worth a flounce is it?

I’d much prefer to listen to Alex Scott’s punditry than the miserable “dresden bomber” of a pundit, Grahame bloody Souness! He just weary to listen to.

Glen Hoddle’s just as bad.

I probably wasn’t clear enough - commentator and pundit are different.

...the pundits should be people who have achieved in what they are punditing on, commentating can be any idiot and usually is.
I think that's a different matter as the pundit is there to give insight into the experience of the player in that sport. I will say though, that some of the female pundits in cricket offer more than their male counterparts. Give me Ebony Rainford Brent over Graham "hilarious" Swann any day. Also give me Alison Mitchell over Dan "utter ** waste of air" Norcross in terms of commentary. I hate him so much it's unreal.

What I am referring to is the justification of the online abuse of female journalists for not having played the game at a high level when actually, neither have the male ones largely and I've seen it several times on twitter this week and it's bang out of order and undefendable imo. Yes, all journalists can ask shit questions regardless of gender but there's a nasty streak to the way women are targeted online.

In terms of pundits, I agree they should be people with experience but I think the pundit role in general is over rated these day and I really like Jarrod Kimber on talk sport as he's got an encyclopedic knowledge and actually, despite just being a cricket nerd with no playing experience, often offers more insight than the ex players as he knows the game inside out.

Hoddle is so bad, he's almost good as a result.

Oh yeah, there are some rank men doing it but I'd still rather listen to them than the women!

Tbf to the women's game, it has been treated appallingly badly historically. At one point it was drawing huge crowds and then it was banned.

It never had a chance to grow to be equal to the men's game and thus, having had that effective sidelining for a long, long time, how is it ever going to become important, how are girls ever going to see 'footballer' as a valid thing to aspire to, without some positive promotion?

It's worth reading about. Dick Kerr's ladies and all that. The FA saw it as a real threat to the men's game so they got rid of it. That's literally what happened.

Maybe Sky should add a Sky Sports Women then see the viewing figures. It would at least get rid of all the clutter from their main channels.
It’s probably why they don’t do it. Think the viewing figures would be abject.
I asked my Pool supporting wife (who also watches NFL and Cricket) why she doesn’t watch the netball or women’s football.
Simple answer was she just wasn’t interested.....

Seasideone, take your tin hat off and pass it my way please.

The only reason there is an influx of women's sports and punditry on our televisions is the exact same reason why we have so many people of a certain colour all over our screens.

Who is the person in charge who thinks "right, people are saying that there aren't enough women or coloured on our screens and we should do something about it".

I would then ask that person, if someone replaced you with a woman or coloured person, or even a coloured woman(ticks all the boxes) just BECAUSE what would you feel?

The fact that these people are appearing on our screens just to appease the woke who get offended about anything is a poor excuse.

A job should always be given to the best candidate. Now if that candidate is a green woman, with blue hair, red eyes, weighs 20 stone and is 4' 3" so be it but if someone is replaced by the green woman just 'because ' there aren't enough green woman on telly then that's the wrong way to do things.

Earlier this afternoon I watched the grass grow, the bbc advertised it as crystal palace v fulham. At full time there was analysis from Mark Hughes and a woman whose name I do not know.
Hughes was dull as dish water who came out with utter drivel. The presenter turned to the woman who basically said the same as Hughes!!!
I wouldn't employ either of them, now if Mark Hughes didn't appear on telly again nothing would be said but I can guarantee that there would be a right to do if the woman didn't appear!!

Back to seasideone's point, if sky are that bothered about women's sport bang it all on one channel. If sky want the best presenters choose the best for the job.

Don't know how long I'll need the tin hat Seasideone🤷‍♂️

Probably for good 😳

Only because it's propped up by their clubs Dave.
Starting salary is 20k with most earning a lot more.
When you can buy a ST under 100 and get in matchday under a tenner(some as low as £5) and crowds in the hundreds and no TV revenue the money has to come from somewhere to pay the ladies.

You mean you don't know that it was Alex Scott. She is on every football show and is on TV pretty much every day. She is a pundit for pretty much every bit of BBC football and Sky coverage. I even noticed she had a web page on the BBC website giving lockdown hints and tips to improve mental health. Who would have known not only she is an expert in men's professional football but also a mental health expert?

They don't take it seriously themselves though. Why does a girl PL team play at Bury or wherever instead of the main ground?

Answer is it's tokenism.

And she hosts the One Show on BBC occasionally!

I like her good pundit.

I'm surprised that you didn't curl up and die, once the 1970's had finished.

Triffic 👍🏻

There's nothing right with it!! 😝
I think womens golf and tennis are very watchable, especially the majors, Solheim Cup, and grand slam events but I cannot stand these so called lady pundits on football, cricket, rugby. Worse still are all the women reporting on football and cricket on the BBC news. Wonder what Roy Keane thinks about it all 😆

In a nutshell, it's because your opinion differs to his and he thinks you're sexist as you don't want to include any women in tv sports.
But I didn't say that did I?

I merely quoted that a person should get a job for their ability in the job and NOT based on the colour of skin, gender or sexuality.

If I want to watch golf I watch the golf channel and I also watch the women's game.
Sara Stirk is a very good golf presenter and brings a lot to the table.
The same with Tanya Arnold on the bbc connected to rugby league.

Both of these presenters have been in their respective jobs long before it was "right" to put a woman in front of the cameras.

My only gripe with this argument is that people are getting jobs to tick boxes, unfortunately it's been going on for ages😔

Different rules apply when it suits. You think Alan Shearer gets so much work because he's a great pundit?
