England ladies are playing in a world cup T20 game at the moment along with England ladies rugby team. Also the English ladies football league is also on... why are there no threads on these events?

Is it because there are no interest / didnt know they're on / or another reason?

I did start to watch the cricket but I’m afraid it’s just poor and boring!

The only top class female sport I can watch is the golf ⛳️!!!

Lots of top class women's sport: tennis, athletics, track cycling, swimming. Like the men at the top level, they are the real super-humans, never mind comic book heroes. I remember Kelly Holmes crossing the line after winning 800m gold in China: beautiful woman but a six-pack to put loads of men to shame.

Why they are playing these games at massive stadiums is beyond me. It does nothing for the womens game when it is empty and without any atmosphere. As for the skill levels, some are good but most are pretty poor. One minute you see awful fielding and limp 3 bounce throw to the keeper, the next you get impressive full length dive to save a boundary. What is obvious is when someone does have talent, they stand out like a sore thumb.

Agree Newbury there are just so few very talented female cricketers. When you see the village green bowling and struggling to hit the ball off the square it's painful. I've no problem with any female sport but the talent just isn't there to warrant prime time sports channels. I get all the promoting of all sports but there has to be a level of quality to justify it.

This maybe a slightly controversial viewpoint, but I'd pose the question, should it even be classed as 'sport' at best the standard is pastime, hobbyist even at elite Womens level, don't get me wrong here, I enjoy baked bean wrestling & sandpit pattercake tennis as much as the next man, but c,mon cricket, seriously, they can hardly hit off the square, silly mid on is seen as fielding in the deep, plus whats all the clothing, padding about, they bowl at what is best described as, 'throw it as hard as you can & it will eventually get there after a few bounces and a slow roll out' pace, now after typing it, doesnt actually sound controversial at all. I didn't even mention the long jump camera angles.

Women’s sport is still early in its professional days, give them a chance. I am sure over the next few years the standard will continue to improve. I rather enjoy watching most of them, and good to see the crowds are improving, today’s rugby sold out and they just said over 8,000 tickets sold already for the next home game - a lot of men’s professional teams could do with that level of support.

But what prices are they charging for tickets that are selling out, I doubt it's anywhere near the same price as the mens.

It’s garbage why don’t we just be honest with ourselves. Presumed there’d be a Prem match on at 2 and what are we confronted with either Scottish football or women’s football. The women’s game is basically the title decider City v Chelsea, nice day, must be all of 700 there. And most like the Cods will be on freebies or paying a fiver. Quite happy for everyone to play football just don’t televise the bloody thing.

For me the lack of interest is due partly to ignorance - as in I dont know who the players are so dont have an interest watching with the other half being the quality of the sports mentioned just isnt as good as the mens.

I know it's a catch 22 situation - more support, more revenue, more publicity, better quality etc but the majority of people watching sport will be men and the majority of people will want to watch top quality players playing and the top quality players in the sports mentioned are men. Women do watch and enjoy sport but the majority of sports lovers are men and that there I think is the issue with the interest levels in women's sport in general.

Just had a look at the prices and they are £15.00 for the next game, so compare that to say FA cup, and other such matches it’s a reasonable return. As well as sales of food and drinks etc

Spot on if ýou take out the dig at Scottish football.

I'lI say womens football is a better level than the SPL before some other fecker beats me to it. 😉

Womens football,... you watch it now & think, wow, this is way better standard than a few years back, they can actually kick the ball to a teammate occasionally, its still utter garbage quality wise, dont kid yourselves, sky may as well cover sunday league hungover hoofball, least its competitive

Has women's football improved from the other year (2017) where the then Women's World Champions took on a team of under 15's boys from Dallas and lost 5-2.

It's like a Tory advisor is amongst us. Akin to the Paralympics wasn't it?

I'd love to see some of these critics play to the same standard.

Professional golfer here, I know what its like not to make elite level in sport, you play ro any kind of similar standard yourself ?

Completely irrevelant Wiz.

People are entitled to criticise professional - or any level really - athletes without being of the same standard themselves.

I am sure you will have considered professional footballers in your time despite not being able to do 3 keepy uppies.

You've probably criticised successful politicians despite never being in office yourself but I couldn't be sure about that one.

IF - that says IF - you think womens sport is chite then should be allowed to say so and it makes no difference whether you can drive it 300 yards, make a century break, etc, etc, yourself.

Womens golf is the exception to the rule, the top women will soon be playing on tour at the highest level, competing and winning in a pool of talent that has no discrimination other than against lack of ability.

Now you got me started, ffs people used to go to the circus to view the elephant man etc & who hasnt stopped and marvelled at the impossible feats achieved by a random drunk geezer at 4 o'clock in the morning attempting to pick up his car keys in a new world record attempt for that level of
intoxication, and to be quite honest, I think the Paralympics are a bit of voyeurism, blind guys getting outran and dragged across the winning line handcuffed to a fat geezer thats on a freemans jolly up to partner him, despite not being barely able to run to any kind of athletic standard himself, its not sport, its pity viewing, dont kid yourself it not, just because we are forced nowdays to be so fearful of saying the actual truth

?????????

Apologies if I misread/misunderstood your post but there is not a female on the planet who would be in the top 2,000 in the male game.

I can do plenty more than 3 keepy uppies🤣

My point is, as I'm sure you know, top level women's sport is of a very good standard and those diminishing it are dinosaurs.

For the benefit of the tape, that women can't compete with males is not a criticism but there is nothing to be gained by suggesting that they possibly can.

I watched the Women’s Cricket World Cup at lunchtime, missed stumpings, dropped catches....

Just like the men 🏏 And it went down to the last over

The number of keepy uppies that you can do is not really relevant Wiz and I apologise for suggesting that you lacked ability on that front, my point was that males are perfectly able to evaluate and pass judgement on the sporting performances of females without having performed to a high standard themselves.

Moving on to the point you make regarding womens sport being of a very good standard and that anybody who disagreed was a dinosaur.

What is a "very good standard" ?

If we compare womens sporting achievement to those of top males it would be ridiculous to suggest it was a very good standard.

In fact, if we are honest, it would be absolutely chite and only the clinically insane would suggest otherwise but I don't think there is any real need to make such a comparison as men are stronger than women and it would be stupid for women to compete against males in sports that required physical strength.

I don't have any big problem with womens sport and one huge positive is that it can get young girls getting involved and enjoying the obvious benefits of participating sport and that can only be a good thing.

If I am honest, I am not particularly keen on the over exposure of womens sport.

It is often just a hobby for the participants and not professional.

Don't get me wrong, there will be plenty of folk interested in and who get entertained by non professional sport but they don't put the male tiddlywinks championship live on telly.

I appreciate that broadcasting more female sport may very well inspire more young females to get involved and I think that's great no matter what level they play to, but I am not sure that means womens sport should be over exposed just because of that.

Women's football shouldn't be compared to men's. They are different sports in terms of where the emphasis is. The physicality of the men's game isn't there but technically the women are on a par when on the ball.

Too many disparage the game without ever watching it.

If you enjoyed it Layton, then you enjoyed it and nobody can tell you otherwise.

I am pleased that you enjoyed it but not enough people do actually enjoy it and I would suggest that the current exposure that it receives is more to do with correctness than demand.

I could very well be wrong and the future will give us the answer.

I am amazed that you believe that the women players are as good technically as the men but it would be boring if we all held the same views.

I agree that there is no need to compare the 2 games but there is no point in us continuing the discussion if you honestly believe that women are as good technically.

It's a different sport in effect. Enjoy it for what it is. PS They are all professionals btw.

Fair enough Wiz re enjoying it for what it is.

My previous comments re professsionalism was about sport in general and not football.

Only the very elite are pro in the British game and they complain about the salaries paid when they went professional an demanded equality.

If they want equality then they should ask for the womens game to contribute towards the male game because there wages are subsidised by the male professional game.

I do appreciate your views on all matters Wiz but I am begining to digress and don't fancy a ban.

In summary, I would like to see womens sport do well but personally I can't pretend to enjoy the majority of it at present and I often find myself laughing at it and struggling to take it seriously.

That is not to say that your goodself - and many others - are wrong to enjoy it.

Peace Out

England lost their 1st World Cup T20 game earlier to South Africa.

I put it on for a while and had to turn over out of sheer annoyance. 9th over, 32/2 and I watched a girl prod 5 forward defense shots. Zero intent to try and hit it. She then walks to the middle, fist bumps her partner and they were giggling together. Absolute joke.

I see they got roundly stuffed by the Proteas.

Yes there is, I taught Suzanne Peterson 26 years ago, golf is if you know the mechanics of swing and lithe, is now more than an equal with ball & club absolute finite tolerances, women physique is able to get the ball put as far as men now, chipping and especially putting is down to pure talent

Not many will understand that, be the same as Simon Sadler explaining the complexties of hedge fund management or TAM explaining everything about the legal field he is in, horses for courses

It's an interesting debate - currently more men watch sport than women. Do men want to watch men play sport rather than women? ... the majority on this thread indicate that this is the case... so is the bbc sky etc flogging something the majority of people dont want?

No debate btw, sky are ising current climate to mug off customers with panty liner sports, knowing it will be tolerated on this pc world, cos you cant say chit is chit in a pc arena

You can dress it up how you like Morty.

No women would be in the top 2,000 of the male game and that's being conservative.

In fact, I will just make it top 200 to avoid any argument.

What makes you think they can hit it as far ?

We both know that's just not true.

Why would you get a ban? Different strokes and all that? I've never called for a ban on anyone and never will, although the New block facility is interesting🤣

People get banned because of agendas, I tend to sort my own gripes out in the old fashioned way, life is too short if it can be sorted by apologising, I have learnt to do that now, holding nonsensensical grudges for no reason is a petty waste of time, and I needed my teenage daughter to finally make me see my errors, who knew teenage girls were so incredibly wise, I love my daughter, knowing that she is clued up enough to school her dad, is a great relief from worrying, maybe I brought her up in the right way after all

But would you watch her play cricket on tv though ?

My oldest son was well into golf, I knew as a parent he had better talents, he now is now working at that mad ringy thing under the Swiss France mountains doing shit I will never understand, I even made him post graduate to do his national service in the military in only 5 spots available each uptake

Sorry Wiz, not for a second was I insinuating that you'd be calling for me to be banned.

A pal of yours has banned me before because I had contributed to discussions on topics that posters may disagree on despite the fact I had made no posts that broke any rules.
