I vaguely remembered some footage of the rioting at this event on the BBC news ….

This 3 part documentary of how everything went horribly wrong is pretty interesting - well worth a watch

watched it all the other night. Really enjoyed it but for some reason can't remember it back in 1999. Those organisers wouldn't get away with their whole lack of organisation, facilities etc and although you can't condone all the ritong, vandalism etc you can understand why it happened. As an aside, I was wondering how much money they made of of the whole event.

I can remember the accusations that were aimed at Limp Bizkit at the time.
I know some of those accusations were completely wrong and I’ll watch with interest to see if some of the nastier accusations were equally unfounded.

According to Heavy.com they made 22 million profit from 60 million ticket sales ($)

Very good mini series and an eye opener as to the organisation of the event with some shocking decisions made, e.g Korn, Limp Bizkit and to a lesser extent The Red Hot Chilli Peppers inciting crowd disorder with their brand of music. I do like the Chillis though 🤔.

It’s a bit of a red herring to suggest the ‘brand’ of music was the problem, IMO, those bands play, or did play, at festivals all over the world without riots starting.
There was, at the time, accusations flying against the lead singer of Limp Bizkit as an individual, but not seen the documentary, just working off memory.

True Johnno but in this instance it certainly didn’t help matters, the documentary is well worth a watch and TBF it was a combination of quite a few things but the lead singer of Limp Bizkit could have calmed things down but he went off the scale in the wrong direction!

Yep well worth a watch.

Poor infrastructure, bad planning, everything over-priced and idea of handing out candles for the ‘mystery headliner’ that didn’t appear was asking for fireworks .

Didn’t buy the organiser’s claim that it was the audience’s 90’s mentality as opposed to a 60’s mentality that caused the problems. Really slimy characters - pleased their PR was balanced by what the staff had to say …

It was supposed to be a Peace love and flip flops event like 30 years earlier, when they had free food banks, it was organised properly. Woodstock 99 was run by complete idiots, How can you have bands like Limp Bizkit, Korn etc., the bands were all wrong and then they treated the kids like animals as well as letting them do whatever they wanted and ripped them off for food and water and sanitation was non existent.

Add a load of pathetic American dead head kids, and it was a cocktail for disaster. Interesting documentary but it doesn't make the USofA look great.

Bang on the money Hertford. Those bands were bound to be 'energetic' and a bit 'incendiary' but if the organisers hadn't acted like twats and looked after their punters it could have been a quality three days.
