Worst fears about Appleton coming true

Boring, defensive football driven by a desire not to concede than score.
Great coaches often don't make great managers and with not one shot at goal yesterday, I fear we're back where we started with this bloke when he first came - dull, boring, defensive football.
Sorry Michael, having paid around £60 to travel to Stoke, I don't think I'll be travelling outside the North West again.

You won’t be missed. You do you eh?

Don't you just hate this type of football fan after a defeat.
Me me me I spent this much and won't be going again because we er got beat against an experienced Championship side who recently spent then years in the PL.👎
The worst.

It may be enlightening for the O/P but even the best teams in the world don’t win every game, nor expect to.

As for the £60 🤮

We did have shots at goal, sonny carey and bowler had great chances both failed to hit the target not the gaffas fault. Were we good enough ? not really but at least don’t make stuff up.

Carey should have scored mate, that was a big chance in he 1st half
I also thought we had 2 decent penalty shouts
Whilst we didn't play well in the first half we certainly had some chances and some good bits of play in the 2nd half

Wasn't all bad

A lot of overreaction but that’s football fans I thought we did some nice things and in general defended fairly well but first half they had midfield runners not being tracked which was
Killing our defenders.
Carey could have pulled the trigger when played through and didn’t then ten minutes later had a sitter and didn’t hit the target.
Came out second half much improved and if josh scores it’s a different game, he doesn’t they go up the other end and make it 2-0 game over.
A lot to improve on but like you say not all bad. Still think virtue, Fiorini, carey as your centre Midds is to lightweight and not nasty enough, especially for your likes of Stoke away.

Virtue is not good enough and having seen him play against Dirty in the pre season friendly his performance yesterday was not good enough for this level of football. It’s a great shame we can’t get more than 10 games out of Stewart so we have to assume he's not going to solve the CDM role, so it’s either Kenny or CC or both with Patino as the play maker. I agree yesterday wasn’t all bad especially the first 20 of the 2nd half but starting the season again without a recognised RB is a huge problem!

Except he's trying to play attacking football.

Lack of an actual RB led to the goals yesterday, who knew.

Players didn't turn up 1st half or some looked out their depth.

When we start with the Arsenal lad and an actual RB well look a hell of a lot better already.

Do you want some cheese with that whine?

We've already got more points from August than we did last year if that helps.

My day consisted of waiting for AA recovery from some shitty link road off the M6 because the car decided that depositing it's coolant over the motorway would make for an exciting time, so cheer up eh?

My Monday will consist of finding a radiator and then trying to fit it during lunch, so things could be worse.

We're still above PKE.

There's a bit of hypocrisy of on this thread.

Belittling spending £60 when you've literally no idea the financial situation of the O/P from many who have criticized the club for their pricing policy is out of order.

As for the Champaign socialists, I'd have expected solidarity not dismissal - but on reflection, maybe not.

Meanwhile, in respect of the stuff about boring football and staying the in the NW that's a personal decision and interpretation of what they've seen before them - their opinion of what they've seen is a valid as the next supporter.

Yesterday wasn't great, and I think it's far too early to make any long term interpretations of what the football is going to be like under Appleton.

Have we? Forgot just how slow we started.

I'd rather win a few and lose a few than draw.

Think lessons will be learned fast from that game so not all bad.

Gabriel back soon and if we get almost a Thompson for the right too, we'll be more solid.

Play the wonder kid and were better in midfield.

Yeah, two draws against Brizzle and Bournemouth, lost to Cov, Cardiff and Millwall, no points at home.

It’s not just about the result though, is it: I love spending the day with my two sons. The atmosphere was great yesterday and everyone really got behind the team. Of course we were hacked off about the result but that didn’t stop me from checking the fixtures on the way home to see when our next “outing’ will be… 😀🧡

I didn't expect much from yesterday tbh. We've never dealt well with teams of genetically enhanced linebackers.

I know this sounds strange because we have to try and win every game we play of course. But while the new style and personnel are still effectively bedding in, then I'm far more interested to see how we get on with a footballing team like Swansea.

We have to learn to cope with the Stokes of this world of course. But two home opportunities now to get things flowing and the best players for the formation. Then the next time we play Land of the giants we might be more competitive.

Swansea comes at a good time for us. Let's use it.

To be fair the OP stated that he spent 60 quid on travel.

He didn’t mention food and drink expenses

You'll have to put those coach consultancy costs up 😜

Stoke have signed some good players and looked decent they started quick and we couldn't get into the game

Anybody can beat anyone in this league as proved by Readings win

No need to panic but we still need a couple of better players in
Stoke were just a physical side that will be mid table by the end of the season . What do you know about Stoke .Were they not bottom of the league last week after losing 2-0 to Millwall.

Learning curve.

MA will be much wiser about the players and know much more about what exactly he needs after that. More so than after last Saturday's win. Nothing like a bad display for focus.

Hopefully the board backs him with maybe 3 perm signings.

One thing yesterday did show was the defence needs protecting as I said it would when MA took over and 433 was mooted.

Too right. Stoke won't go up because they have panicked and gone for a team consisting almost exclusively of Orc army extras. That will find them out over the course of a season. However, added to the fact they pressed all over and we couldn't pass wind in the first half and didn't have a single player upfront (or until Kenny came on, in midfield) who can head a football once Gaz departed, it was enough for yesterday.

We'll learn, improve and next Saturday will be way better.

hitting the panic button after one loss...
