Would you accept dull if it was succesful

There’s a strange irony in Simon no doubt wanting to replicate the excitement of the Holloway era and yet the current incumbent ends up delivering the dullest football most of us can recall
I sometimes wonder if his priority has always been to get the infrastructure of the club sorted, then he can push on with progresssing the team. He may be quite happy with league one at present. It’s not a criticism, just what I think his long term strategy might be. The problem is though he needs to keep getting fans through the turnstiles and the football played this season is not really doing that, especially when people are having to watch the pennies. I think the majority on this thread have shown they want to be entertained.

The answer to OP's question is undoubtedly YES, and anyone saying otherwise is a liar, because we were all content with dull football in the 2020-2021 promotion season (where we 5 less goals than this season) because it yielded the result we all wanted.

This is a good point, I think as a hedge fund manager, Sadler views things much more long term and in his eyes excitement is derived from the training ground/East Stand projects, which take priority over on the field success and hence why he prefers Critch right now (since he can provide on the field stability for the medium term future).

However, most fans don't give a damn about those projects when they are having to watch CJ Hamilton attempts to play inverted wingback while we are losing 1-0 away to Port Vale.

Wish Sadler would realize that we can have on field stability with a manager who is a bit more daring because quite frankly even if we appointed an attacking manager who failed we still wouldn't go down in this league!

It’s a results business for sure, but it’s also an entertainment business.
I really hope Simon Sadler has marked NC’s card on the entertainment issue for next season.

In L1 you've got to be up for the weekly grind. Find different ways to win. Be savvy and strong. Cheat if you have to. Find a weakness in the opponent or match officials and exploit it. So consistency and the ability to adapt and overcome more than anything else for me.

Critchley's modern FA means-to-an-end method of coaching hasn't changed in terms of being a frustrating cure for insomnia where you can just skip the match and look at the result to save your time, money and effort. But what has been frustrating is just doing nothing to change anything in the games where we've just lost 1-0 or more with the one standard approach formation and tactics. Seems very quick to blame the players since he came back and it's come across a bit lazy to me. Not the guy who left when he was trying to show he had a trick about him. Maybe he's not had the right players but he put his name to most if not all of them. Where was his talked-up captain and leader at the weekend in the biggest game of the season? On the bench.
Bang on. And this is league 1, not the champions league. It should be entirely possible for a club our size with its fanbase that thrives on risk and adversity to be able to deliver results, whilst entertaining more often than not. All this matching up and budget level stats analysis is taking us squarely down the wrong path.

To be fair though not too many of us Got to see much live football due to COVID

There's a famous old quote: 'Team spirit is an illusion glimpsed in the aftermath of victory.' I reckon the same applies to fans feeling entertained.

Sincerely Seasider, and I'm not trying to be sarcastic in some clever roundabout way, I'd guess you do go to games and enjoy what you see. Ok it's better when we win. But I bet you remember some cracking games where you saw some brilliant football but we only managed a last minute equaliser. And enjoyed it.
If it's only about the result, why watch a game?
(Now I am trying to be clever (and friendly)), maybe nobody remembers who comes second, but I'll bet you know who came eighth this year. And it wasn't much fun was it?
I appreciate that you are not being sarcastic but to confirm that yes I go to watch every home game & been watching Pool , good times & mostly bad times for well over 60 plus years, so feel qualified to comment on this subject. Ofcourse there have been games that I have really enjoyed where we have not won , eg the home draw against Portsmouth, when we were down to 10 men but the thread is about accepting dull football if successful . In my mind success is not winning the odd game in an entertaining style of play but to achieve the season long aim of winning promotion.
We all have different opinions , that’s what we love about football but looking back at all the posts , I think it proves the majority agree with my view.
