Would you be happy with

Like many, I had giddy expectations this season with the seemingly ambitious signings we made early, only to come to the realisation that Rome wasn't built in a day.

It's clear that with such a new team and new philosophy this is not a quick fix.

So my question is,would you be happy with mid/lower league finish this season with using it as a season long run up to next season with the expectation of promotion?

I don't mind a mid table finish this year as long as there is improvement seen, in terms of results generally combined with better football than last season. At least then we know next year we'll be decent.

Ultimately being anywhere near relegation by the end of the season is a pretty drastic failure.

Yep.

I said in a thread last night that we may have to manage our expectations a little. Nothing wrong with positivity but this "project" is going to take some time. I think this answers 62 years's question as well; I reckon we will improve this season (we have to) but I think it will take a while, so promotion is too big an ask. When (rather than if) the team gels, it will stand us in good stead for next season.

This is another gloomy post at such an early stage of the season.
No need.........

It's a hypothetical question based on our current position and recent performances whilst taking into consideration that this is a new team going through a learning process. I also mentioned the ambition of promotion next season...

The only thing gloomy is your attitude :)

I am positive we are still in transition and pretty certain we will be in the mix at the end of the season.
So if my attitude is gloomy I dread to think where you are.

Your attitude toward others, didn't think that would need spelling out to you in all honesty.

In the long term I'm happy as long as they play competitive football and show progression no matter where they finish (relegation excepted). Then see how it goes next season.

No issues finishing mid table. Looking at Oxford's results from last season they clicked around 8 or 9 league games in. Think we will be 12 or so with all of the new arrivals. Players ought to have adapted to the lack of atmosphere by then as well.

No but I have been a mental health professional for the last 6 years. I think this conversation has run its course.
Get another job.
It's obviously affected you badly if an innocuous remark about a gloomy post can trigger this below.

Yeah and look at Oxford now! All that building.... For what?!! 😂

I'm mental too and I know you can't beat a good bear. Do you have family who are Tango coloured? 😉

The important thing is that we see improvements over the course of this season. I know we've started badly, but I genuinely believe that we have a number of very good players at the club, and our struggles right now are a result of just trying to find the right combination and getting everyone on the same wavelength.
This is a marked difference from the cause of previous bad seasons when the players just weren't up to standard. I have no doubt we'll improve, the only question is how gradual it'll be.

Rotherham got 8 points from their first 8 league games last season including a win against a Bolton youth side. Potsmouth got 6 points from 6. I think there is some serious over reaction here. We will do well and I will be surprised if we don't make the top 6 and I think if we make the play offs we will go up. There are 120points to play for!

Rotherham lost 4 home games all season and Portsmouth lost none.
