Would you drop Madine or Fonz for Saturday?

Neither are really doing it for me if I'm honest at the moment - find them both a bit frustrating and I like Fonz as an impact player. Would you drop either and who would you replace them with?

I'd drop Fonz to be honest...he'd be a better impact player than Nuttall with his pace and direct running, and Madine needs game time

I think we will find out a bit more about Madine in the next few weeks. He has at least scored 2 goals but should have had a couple more. He also gives us a bit more physicality up front and holds the ball up more.
The jury is still out though.
As for Delfouneso...the Fonz is the Fonz.

I would drop Fonz unless we are playing him as a wide man.
Madine needs match practice so stick with him if no Groot.
We have to get Nuttall in there somehow and give him game time too (even though he really does not deserve it on showings so far). At least Joe 'may' have potential (no idea if he really has) whereas Fonz will not bring goals up the centre so a waste.

If Madine is carrying an injury would like to see Nuttall either start instead or replace him a lot earlier in the game. Did not appear to contribute that much against Bolton. Late into box or not present when ball fired in.

Fonz might not score but he moves a lot and takes defenders away. Madine doesn't really add that and he didn't win that much against Bolton or Wimbledon. You can get away with one striker not scoring - not both.

I don't think Madine in this form/condition adds anything Gnando doesn't, so if he's fit, Gnando and Fonz for me.

I think Madine will come good, but if he's carrying a knock, let him get fit.

It worries me though that he does not score Td. It is surely the m.o. of a striker?

Yeah, but if you're playing a partnership, you can have one who is more of a creator. I think Fonz is the most intelligent (aside from in front of goal) and tricky of our potential strikers

It's perm 2 from 4 and the Nutt, Gnando and Madine are all really candidates for one spot I think - we've tried so many combinations and Fonz + someone else has seemed better that the other partnerships even if Fonz himself hasn't taken his chances

It's the one area I think we really didn't address and having no KaiKai atm makes it even less of a choice up there.

I don't mind seeing how Nuttall does in the new look total football Pool tbh. Sticking with Fonz is just what I'd do to try and make the system we seem to be playing work

I'm not sure what was the matter with Fonz on Tuesday. He was Ok when he had the ball but off the ball he looked like he was on another planet.
Gnanduillet could come in for either Fonz or Madine on Saturday.

Agree I thought he wasn’t in the game enough

End product lacking yet again

A fit Madine would always start ahead of the Fonz for me, he is obviously not 100% at the moment! The Fonz is a great option off the bench though!

The number of times over the last three games where there has been very good service to the front players but they are just not in the right position to take advantge is I think problematic. Fonz has a tendency to run towards the ball rather than to space, which means he often creates tight spaces around the final build up play rather than expanding out and taking defenders with him, Gnands has a tendency to do that as well (except when Feeney has the ball resulting in the number of goals and assists that they have) that has really only become apparant in the last few games because we have been a largely static team until now. If Gnands is fit I'd bring him back in but who to play him with I'm not sure. Might be tempted to play Ronan and DH slightly advanced and bring in Bola as a left sided midfielder, but our striking options are a bit of a quandry. Kaikai would be the obvious foil to one of the big men.

Id keep them both starting for Saturday. Fonz gives us that bit of movement and pace in behind and can play quickly with the forward thinking midfielders like Ronan and Dewsbury Hall. Is he the permanent answer...no cos he doesn't score enough but without him we would lose a lot of threat up front and threat and pace makes for nervous defenders and room for others.
As for Madine, he has been ok, decent on the floor again which helps the midfielders and is also presence too. If Gnands is on the bench is a perfect swap for him later in the game.

Madine looked quality on Saturday for me albeit not fit, great at holding the ball up and very good on the floor.
I'd be tempted to start Nuttall in place of Fonz at some point, Fonz is usually good from the bench

Is Madine injured ? if not he,s either just not fit or a good impression of many big slow c/forwards we have had in the past.
Nuttall without hair looked more mobile than his recent cameos but can he score? Why not give him a start on Sat with Madine on the bench.

The problem with both is that there aren't really replacements in the side. You could put Spearing back in and push one of the lads further forward but am not sure that would solve that much. Madine and Fonz do not play well together and both have missed 2 yard sitters in the last couple of games. The fact is that our strike force has been shabby all season and it has to be a new manager's number one priority.

Agree, good post

I think Ronan, DH and Virtue are giving us a lot more mobility now going forward; perhaps sufficient to go with a flat back four. How about this formation - somewhat out of left field, mind:

Turton - Edwards - Husband - Bola

Virtue - Spearing - MacDonald

Dewsbury-Hall - Ronan

Gnanduillet (or Madine or Fonz if Gnands not available)

The bitter and twisted Notlob's have written that Madine is well over weight. Do they have a point and could this be due to him carrying the reported injury? Good strikers do rely on pace and movement.

Fully expect Madine not to play - think he's looked both injured and rusty - Nuttall should get a chance .. we've nout to play for.
