WTF.... Gorton and Denton

Just got up for a piss and thought I’d check the news and result has just come in.

Wow just wow the Greens win by a 4,500 majority Labour come in a shocking third behind Reform.

Tories polled just over 700 votes.

Starmer’s decision to block Andy Burnham from standing will come back to haunt him.

Full results.

It’s interesting, the Conservatives are a dead party, Labour have managed to phuck up the chance of a lifetime n less Han 18 months and Reform are the far right xenaphobes that everyone else don’t want near a Government so tactical voting is going to boost the Greens and the Lib Dem’s massively, and you know what? Good! Let’s see if they can cobble something together and maybe force a coalition, none of the big two or reform are fit to run our country.

By the way, if you get a chance, watch Dorty Business on Ch4 about the sewage released into our rivers and seas, Maggie with her privatisation and kept alive by consecutive governments, it’s another post office scandal and at the end of the day, that lads who has just won the by election is right when she says the ordinary hand washing person can’t afford a holiday or things that were achievable before and the rich just keep getting richer and they sneer at those below them as they take, take, take.

I’m awake now and just read this

Reform UK's Matt Goodwin, who came second behind the Greens, says Reform UK has "embarrassed Labour in one of their strongest seats."

"Sixth safest Labour seat. And I think if we can do this here, we can do this pretty much anywhere," he says after the party knocked Labour into third place.

Of the Greens, he accuses the party of "riding a very dangerous wave".

"I'm very concerned about the direction of the country. And I think many people are going to be watching this by-election, and they're going to be feeling the same thing that I am, which is deep concern about where Britain is heading.

"I think the progressives were told how to vote, and I think what you saw was a coalition of Islamists and woke progressives that came together to dominate a constituency.

"And many people in this country will look at Gorton and Denton and be appalled by what they see”

Sounds like he should be alongside Donald Trump.

Farage throwing his toys out of the pram. Coming across as a sore loser. Very Trumpesque

Farage always has a toddler tantrum whenever anything goes off the PR plan, I think it's what psychologists call 'being a fcuking bellend'.

Disaffected Labour seats are supposed to be Reform's bread and butter, unfortunately for tweedy bollocks the Greens have stolen his thunder, they crushed them.

Labour rather than bleating we're better than reform all the time have now also to focus on the Greens.

Terrible results for the three main parties Libs and Tories less than 2% of vote pathetic you can only see one result at the next General election a hung parliament.

Losing Reform candidate Matt Goodwin:

Absolute brainrot drivel. Most sensible people will look at the result and be proud of the democracy we live in.

The pollution of our water by profit obsessed foreign concerns SHOULD be a major concern for people, it's far more serious for the country than immigration but it's easier to punch down than take on multi nationals.

I think the issue of ‘family voting’ is a big problem ,I didn’t even know it could even happen but it needs looking at before any more elections !!

Oh and Dirty Business stars two of Blackpool's finest, so watch it for that anyway.

Gosh. Imagine a country where the Greens were in power and the official opposition is Reform.

Tories and Labour with a handful of seats each.

So instead of lamenting how badly your own party faired in the by-election you rejoice in the fact that reform didn't win!!
Are all the Labour voters now going to jump on another creaky bandwagon and start voting green in the future?
Asking for a friend😏
If you are speaking to me I don't have a party.
The encouraging thing is that this result shows that the progressive majority can coalesce around a candidate and prevent the vile dog whistling racists of Reform from winning. For me, the most important thing at stake at the next election will be to prevent Reform from winning (if they are still as popular). Because Reform would be a disaster for the UK. Anyway with the advent of the overtly racist Restore party it looks like the right-wing fringe parties will be fighting amongst themselves soon enough.
And Farage showing what a ** he is, accusing people of cheating etc.
A good night as far as I am concerned - the best candidate won and she is actually local and an ordinary person. Labour could actually learn something from this.

I'm speaking to Labour voters.
I thought that was obvious in my post.

Democracy Volunteers (whoever they are) identified 32 cases in total. The Green majority was in excess of 4000, so (even if the claims of family voting are true) there was zero impact on the result.

The Reform chairman has just (very reluctantly) acknowledged that fact on the Today programme.

So no Trump style claims of a “stolen election”.

Haha Reform comments were straight out the Trump bullshit list.

Hopefully this result is a huge wake up call 👍

Congratulations to the greens even I didn’t see that result coming I thought would be a much closer contest.
All I can say is that I hope this version of the greens are not as bloody disastrous & delusional as the version we had in Scotland.

My preferred candidate Sir Oink A Lot beat Advance UK which was very satisfying, OTOH I'm well weed off because I'm only up because I thought the cricket started at 9.30 :(

Yep. I think Reform just thought a win for them was guaranteed, chose a candidate who had zero connection with the area, and frankly took the local voters for granted. Naive, entitled, and shows what they really think of the constituents. And now they are angry that it didn’t work out for them.

Remember they also lost in Wales, but apparently didn’t learn the lesson.

This result isn't representative for the whole country.

It was basically how do we stop reform when we won't vote for labour because of Burnham. Greens was the choice.

There is plenty of time for Labour to pull it round and recapture the votes from the Greens. They won't hold the seat next election.

Mind you Labour will need to lose Starmer.

Reform don't deserve my words- vermin will suffice.

Initially, yes. However once the dust settles I can see coalitions forming: SNP, Plaid Cymru and Green being an unlikely one, LibDem and Green being more likely.

Reform’s response is straight out of the book of Donald Trump, and the Tory candidate, who polled just 706 votes says that Labour, who polled 9364, are dead. It makes me think of that saying, best to keep quiet and let people think you’re an idiot, than speak and prove them right.

He went to Salford uni

Labour have just lost over a 9,000 majority from the 2024 election results just 18 months ago.

Reforms votes have gone up from 5,000 in 2024 to over 10,000.

How anyone thinks this is a Reform disaster needs their head examining.

It’s a 100% Labour disaster full stop and hopefully it will be the end of Starmer in not picking Andy Burnham his MP’s will be revolting after this debacle.

It was obvious…..his need to reply reveals his facade
You sound disappointed.
Like I said my main concern in these times is to stop Reform from becoming a government - if that meant tactically voting for a moderate Tory I would do it. And that is because I care about my country, for all the flag waving and bullshit about patriotism, Reform are profoundly un-British in their outlook. And it would be a disaster if they ever got to govern our great nation.
