Occupational Pension increase 2021/22, based on CPI September 2020 = 0.5%

Council Tax increase this year = 4%

Residents Car Parking permits introduced last year, from free to £30 per 2 years.

Green Bin collection charges increased from £30 to £35 = 16.6%!!!

You can always rely on the Tories to rip you off!

Not to mention all the new council tax they get from new builds!

How any price rise can be justified when many are still struggling financially from the impact of Covid is beyond me.

A business who has been shut for months and raises prices to claw money back fair enough, this is just greed.

Ah, but it would be worse under Labour...

All councils have been stitched up by Central Government over the past decade. Some tried to bridge the funding gaps by entering into commercial agreements owning housing, wind farms and private banks etc. One town council in the North West now has debts of £1.6 Billion.
BHOK, you're rapidly becoming the voice of reason on here 👍

If everyone paid it,there would maybe no need for increases. I got chased up for a late payment, business's and people not paying at all seem to get a clean sheet and a helping hand. Would rather see a person tax, everyone pays the same, even kids, may stop some idiots having them.

The government tried that with the 'poll tax' but that soon blew up because houses dont move around (but people do). One aspect of Town Hall governance is the concern of lengthy and costly legal expenses, where for instance I think Blackpool Borough have a sum set aside for paying off staff who've been in dispute.
Factor in stuff like pot hole claims and a significant sum of budgets gets spent on things that are wholly avoidable, and thats before we get to 'Tramgate' etc

That's not strictly true. I've worked for two separate councils and the one consistent is the amount of money they waste. The second council I worked for it was eye watering amounts. I wouldn't believe it myself but I've witnessed it first hand and it's criminal how much is wasted.
Yes the budgets have been cut, but if they didn't waste so much in the first place they wouldn't be in so much debt.
So before you feel sorry for these councils, there are two sides to every story.
Not just the side that favours your whinging hate filled agenda.

Some people are never happy in life. Always looking for something to moan and whinge about. The o/p is one of those. Not been on this forum for a year and has barely had anything positive to say.

Instead of making snide and insulting remarks, why not engage your tiny little brain for a few minutes, and say whether you think it's okay for a previously free green bin collection service, to be increased by 16.6%!

What, like a poll tax? That went well.

yep, it's ok, now shut up moaning and pay it. Do you think the council should come and take it away free of charge?

Here in Bippy village under the liebour lot its gone up 5.2% so consider yourself lucky in true blue Wyre 😎

Biggest increase on mine was police and adult social care precepts. Not something I object to tbh

they aren't taking it away for free though are they - we pay council tax
Council tax only includes standard refuse removal under the local govt acts hence why a lot of councils now charge for green bin removal. I just walk my green bin round to Bristol avenue when it's full and empty it there for free. Nowt stopping you bagging up your green waste and driving to the tip. If you are rich and live in a house with massive gardens I would imagine 35 quid every year or two is cheap

Council tax goes up 5.1%

Chief Executive of Blackpool Council wages goes up to £143,000

Various directors in the council get pay rises of 1000's each.

You are ..... incapable of logical expression. I will now go back to "ignoring" your contributions to this board.

No obligation to pay green bin charges at all. Don’t pay it and put all green waste in with the general rubbish, cost back to zero then

The green bin charges are not on. Just had to pay for my two bins not cheap, used to be included. I have heard of some folk using the grey bin for green waist.

Yes, it's fine to put green waste in the grey bin bagged up of course. However, I do find it amusing how some people get upset over having to pay less than £1 a week to have some other people come and take away all their green waste every 2 weeks. The price is extremely cheap for the service provided - and, of course, you don't have to pay it if you don't need or want to. The councils have started charging for this (optional ) service because, as stated by others and surely known by all, Central Government has shafted local Government consistently over the last decade particularly. The councils don't charge for fun - the alternative is no charge and no green waste pickup 🙂

Thanks Mike👍

When we moved where we are now in 2004 the stuff the binmen took for us was incredible plus there was a relatively short trip to the nearest tip on Kilnhouse lane in St Anne’s, although we were supposed to go miles out of our way to Bristol Ave. Then it closed, these days it’s like a day out the time it takes & the pissing about with showing household bills etc. No wonder there’s fly tipping on a grand scale, I don’t BTW. I agree rubbish should be reduced & we had until we got grandkids living with us FFS I thought they taught them to be environmentally friendly these days. Rant over 😂

OK, I'll take you at your word - and I've seen waste in central Govt - but provide some examples.

You want an example? OK I'll give you an example and it's just one of many. Obviously I can't mention specifics.
A building which was a home for handicapped people. I was given a project to upgrade all the shower rooms, install new automatic doors throughout and also new windows. A total of nearly 150k spent on building and upgrading works.
6 months later the building was closed down and 12 months after that it was demolished.
And that's just one example of many.
The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. There was no communication or long term planning, or even short term planning if I'm honest. And it's still going on today.
And don't even ask about the money wasted on bringing in consultants.

Yes, a good example and don't get me started on the money spent on consultants.

I agree it is a good service and well worth it, but of course its once every two weeks and they stop collecting in November and don’t start again till March, but saves me trekking to Bispham to chuck the green stuff away so happy to pay

Or how about the council building that had its flat roof renewed at a cost of over £170k 18months ago, that is now scheduled for demolition, oh & that £170k wasnt the lowest tender, that was significantly less, just "procurement" decided they liked the higher one???? Eh Rusty 🤣

Why do people pay when there are miles of country roads in Wyre where this stuff can be fly tipped? Karl Oyston 2018

We'll, if we sent kids back up chimneys and cleaning under dangerous machines in factories they'd be liable to income tax as well. How about that idea TITD?

Got three kids, two still at home and would happily pay a tax on them for them at home. It would even out over the age groups also a property tax that includes empty houses, shops industrial units. At the end of the day,if you cant afford them and need reductions for circumstances, you shouldnt have them. Kids and property. If OAP's want discounts on things, they should be in sheltered accomadation, social housing or nursing homes.

Best strap in and don the tin hat 😄

These increases seem needless and unfair to me. Covid has had a devastating effect not just on health but also on peoples ability to earn money. Many have lost jobs or have found their income reduced and for some it really will be a case of counting the pennies. At this very difficult time councils should act more responsibly.
