X on your passport

Even though intersex people are a biological fact and the 'X' would make sense in that case, my guess is they were far from the minds of the authorities when this decision was made. It's just pandering to delusional idiots and bringing intersex people into the equation is clutching at straws for the sake of arguing.

Instead of guessing you could do 5 minutes of research. As I explained earlier, this whole process was started because an intersex army veteran sued the government in 2015 for refusing to issue a passport unless they picked male or female, despite biologically being neither. Literally the entire process for X on passports was done because of a complaint by an intersex person.

If that is the case then I stand corrected, but they have a valid point and should be supported. It's people who just identify may be the ones to cause problems if any.

But giving further thought to it, why has it taken 7 years to correct this? I think I'll revert back to my original post and say they are just pandering.

Because lawsuits and actions by the US government take a really long time, and I doubt Donald Trump's office gave a shit for 4 of those years

Still better that than being miserable and scared, averse to any change, even if it doesn't threaten them you in any way whatsoever.

The world moves on and develops, if it didn't we'd all still be fighting the tribe in the next village and waiting for our wives to have the meal ready around the campfire after a days hunting.
Sounds ok that to be fair

I’m more worried about people putting an X next to the name Scott Benton on a ballot paper - not because he’s gay but because he’s a Tory!

I think you should if you are genuinely interested in understanding. Intersex people are people who are born with chromozone patterns that aren't xx or xy, therefore don't fall into biological male or female catagories.

Roughly speaking, how many of those are born in the UK each year?

It's very hard to say as firstly there is a debate regarding what exactly is "intersex" is, and also it's very rarely put on the birth certificate. It's underreported and a lot of parents will try to 'pick' one gender for ther child and force them into that identity. That being said, estimates seems to range from the tens of thousands into the hundreds of thousands.

Per year? Doubtful.

As a point of reference, a rough ballpark for births per year is 500,000, from what I've read roughly 1 in 1,500 - 2,000 births are intersex, although it does of course depend upon how you define the term, so maybe 250 - 500 births per year.

I think the key point is that none of the "trans debate" is about intersex anyway.

Sorry, misread your post, not per year but in the UK right now.

Not sure what trans people have to do with this thread. Trans people are male or female, they don't require an X.

Dont see the fuss if people want to put an x on passport, will they remove it for going into naughty countries who are against it.

True, but it is always entered into the trans discussions as an opposing argument against those who question the validity of transgender.
