Yates & Madine

Still not clinical enough IMO but they look like a forward line now and are improving each game. Dougall has been the biggest single difference on the pitch for me, he's really steadied us in midfield, wins the ball so often, rarely wastes possession, reads the game incredibly well and he plays those quick balls forward so often and so well. We are also so much better in central defence now. Posh hardly got a look in today.

Yates has very good ball skills, and I can see why Critch fancied him in the Bobby Firmino role. However that tactic does seem to be one league above, and there’s no substitute for a big target man at this level.
Wycombe showed that last season and let’s be honest, they were pretty gash but the water buffalo as Joey called him murdered Heneghan at Bloomfield.

Agree re Dougall, he's been brilliant. But I think having 2 strikers up front has made a huge difference to how much of a goal threat we are.

It's made a difference but we still don't have a huge goal threat, really, do we? I'm never confident that Yates, Madine, Kaikai of CJ will hit the target - they miss a hell of a lot. Some straightforward chances were comprehensively fluffed today, and it almost cost us. Again. But as confidence grows along with understanding that will hopefully get better.

Agree with all of this. Having a midfielder who can tackle, break up play, then set things going with a well judged forward pass all in a couple of seconds is making all the difference. I think Yates has shown good movement throughout but you have to hit him early enough - as Dougall does. Goal Machine shows his presence and experience in every performance. I think CJ and Kaikai still have a bit more to do - they don't yet match the other two for workrate and decision making, but it's all really encouraging.

I’ve posted on here previously that our midfielders need to learn how to become strikers. That means practice, practice, practice, shooting. Midfielders aren’t out and out goal scorers. They may contribute a few during the season which is great but if you haven’t got a striker that will get you 20 plus goals then the midfielders have to make up for the shortfall. So to our midfielders in particular, stay behind after training and practice, practice , practice getting the ball in the back of the net.

Look as if they could be a very good partnership. Will frighten a lot of defences in league one.
The 4-3-3 that Chritch signed the likes of Yates to play in did not work. The players looked lost in it,mainly Yates. Now we are playing 4-4-2 we look much better and have a threat,Dougal was superb yesterday, protection for the back four and pushing forward.
I just worry if we got an injury to Madine who has a history of time on the side line.
I'm sure the players and staff will buzzing after that win but can't work out why the Management would think making 3 subs when you are winning 0-1 was the correct thing to do?
3 subs if you are 1-0 down yes but the time it takes 1/3 rd of your team to adapt to a tough game and we were at 1-1.
Anyway more positives to build on and a good feeling going into Tuesday.

We missed a few good chances, however, I'm sure the goals will come eventually.
Thought Gretarsson had a decent game too.
