You can’t go to the pub indoors or outdoors
You can’t watch a game outdoors
You can however go and watch Chubby Brown on North Pier indoors

Nowt against Chubby but really !!!!!

The rules are so contradictory

Same

I’ll do my own version of what’s safe

The fact that Wyre is in Tier 3 and Manchester / NE / Nottingham aren’t is a joke

Chubby can put on a show in Blackpool with people sat one seat apart but all pubs have to shut

In Liverpool gyms are required to shut Here not

Its like a Shakespearian tragi-comedy

Burnham is calling them out Politics aside someone needs to

Just been to the highlands of Scotland. A few people were complaining that the only places they could meet with each other have all got a till!

Burnham is a career opportunist - see also football issues and homelessness.

If his priority was the safety of the Mancunians why did he not accept the restrictions and ensure they were implemented and continue the discussions.

He stated that he was taking a stand on behalf of the whole country, all very noble indeed but surely his job is to represent the people of Manchester and the surrounding areas and not use the area to take a stand to take a stand against the Government on behalf of the whole country.

Apart for a few pubs that don’t serve food closing, nothing’s really changed, if you want a bet you can do it online, and if you want a beer you can drink at home (personally I prefer going to the pub, but hey ho, I’ll save a bit of cash)

Looking around, apart from people wearing masks, you wouldn’t know were in the middle of a pandemic, social distancing is out of the window, people are still visiting other households and meeting outside.

I think Burnham is positioning himself for a return to Westminster in a couple of years.
Agree with the rest of your post though. The infection rate on the Fylde is 40/100,000, way less than the rest of Lancashire.

He had represented Manchester, admirably. The people of Manchester can see that.

You mean he gets involved in local issues?

Wasn't that long ago Burnham wanted to take the government to court over the student Uni grades fiasco can't remember any other Mayor threatening to do the same.

Mayoral election is next year, although I assume he's a shoe-in anyway; the next term ends in 2025 so that ties up with the scheduled general election quite well.

Depending upon the result, possibly lining himself for another go at the leadership, if not then maybe a senior cabinet post?

Lala can't hit the like button quick enough at any post that criticises Burnham. Has he upset you or is it a chance for you to have that little dig at labour

Not having a go at you LS, it gets my goat whoever does it:
Shoo-in. As in, shooing geese into a pen.

Not as much as I always seem to upset you 😊

I’m the only poster that gets pulled for just liking other people’s opinions it appears 😔

Burnham is a career opportunist...
In exactly the way Boris Johnson isn`t, I suppose?

But whether he is or isn`t, is actually not the point here.

It is whether he is representing the people of Greater Manchester in a fit and responsible way.

I think subsequent events - Sunak`s latest announcements and allowing the backdating claims to August - proves Burnham right on this matter...

Spot on, he's representing the interests of his electorate, an odd concept these days.

You don't upset me at all. It was an observation, I'm not sure why you don't like Burnham

I did not pass judgement on whether other politicians were opportunists or not.

Andy Burnham was the politician that was being discussed and I said that I felt that he was an opportunist.

You don't have to agree with my opinion on Andy Burnham but I am struggling to see what Richi Sunak or Boris Johnson have do with my opinion on Andy Burnham whether they are opportunists or not.

He had represented Manchester, admirably. The people of Manchester can see that.

He said in his own words that he was taking a stand on behalf of the country.

In taking a stand on behalf of the country and refusing to implement restrictions in the Greater Manchester area, he was endangering the safety of the people he represents.

He saw a chance to criticise the Government and jumped at the opportunity with scant regard for the health and safety of the people of Greater Manchester.

In war time, our great country joined together to help fight the common enemy.

These days rather than join together for the overall betterment of the country and all its people, we have politicians jumping on every little thing for personal/political gain.

This is also highlighted on here, where folk continually warning us of the dangers of the virus and the need to shut down everything are the same ones who can't wait to criticise the Government and the authorities whenever restrictions are implemented.

Are we in favour of lockdown or not ?

Is it because we're not at war? He took a stand to get the support that would undoubtedly be available if London went into Tier 3. The fact that Sunak came out and changed the overall package is no coincidence.

He represents the people of Manchester and the surrounding areas.

If he takes a stand it should be on behalf of them and not the rest of the country.

In delaying imposing the restrictions he put the health and safety of those who he represents at risk.

He is an opportunist, this would not be the first time.

If he's an opportunist, he is hardly unique in politics.

He has a mandate to speak for the area and that mandate includes challenging the Government of the day and lobbying it on behalf of the area he serves. Strictly speaking, that is what he has done, hasn't he? If we decide to devolve power and responsibility, we can hardly then moan when the people it is devolved to to seek to use it.

54 Tory MPs asking for a way out of lockdown. Opportunists?
