A couple of years ago, Pool had a midfield which included the “Special K” elements ; Kev, Kenny and Keshi. They were Championship standard, and formed a solid base for Madine, Yates and Lavery. Pool had players also who could operate under the protection of the “K’s” such as CJ and Bowler with varying levels of success. You add Dick, and a functioning Marv, and you’ve got a half decent core. The K’s though, were the key.
We didn’t have that last year. Kenny went at Christmas, and then they were all gone. What we have now are Carey, Morgan and Norburn 😳
Enough said ! If Pool hope to do anything next term they have to understand that the current crop are not as good. That is the reality. They are very-ok, but are short of and from top six quality.

The recruitment team will have to get their heads down and find us some nuggets like they did with Dembele Rhodes Coulson Byers etc.

Appreciate they were loans but they seem know how to get some decent players in.

Not to appear cynical of our recruitment team, but it is very possible that the parent clubs / player's agents first made contact with us for these loans to happen.

I don't think our requirement team have made a good signing (transfer fee paid) that was good value for money since Yates in 2020.
It's time to get By the sea UTP in to take charge of our dealings.

Well we certainly haven't when it comes to Norburn and Joseph. Over £1M spent for 2 extremely average players. One with zero resale possibility.

That wasn't even the recruitment team either. Him and Keshi were courtesy of Richie Wellens.

Even if they find nuggets like dembele, Rhodes and Byers it will be a similar situation to the past season in that the quality of individual players pulls us out of holes the critchley makes with his defensive, predictable boring what he calls possession based football.

Either critchley starts playing players in a role that they are suited to or the management cut their losses with him.

Carey, Morgan and Norburn sounds like a good midfield to me, what's your point? Pity Byers isn't ours because if he was I'd be running down the road in joyous celebration with the wife's knickers on my head.

Give it a ** rest and enjoy the summer.

When Pool do well we always had a good midfield. A good midfield keeps the pressure off the defence and supplies the wingers/forwards.

Some players take a season to settle in, Norburn and Morgan could easily step up. Otherwise, Norbs will be gone in the summer and replaced.

Morgan and Carey bring a massive goal threat so can’t complain with those 2, just need the Kenny/Kev Stuart (fit) type bringing in, which is Norbs on paper and most agreed with his signing before the season started.

It’s the hindsight/crystal ball thing again. We have that luxury and the club doesn’t.

Carey has not delivered end of story. Pinning your hopes on one good game in 20 shows why we failed this season, exactly he same as CJ. He goes missing, cannot tackle nor can he find a pass. I had big hopes that he would kick on this season and he failed big time. If that is down to the coaching or the way he is being played fair do's but he should have been better.

Can't say I agree with the "you get what you pay for" philosophy for football. Look at Man Utd.. they've spent billions and Leicester have won the Premier League more recently than them - Martial cost more than the entire Leicester squad!

In fact you could build a solid League One XI from poaching the best players out of contract this summer:
Femi Azeez (Reading) Ruel Sotiriou (Leyton) Jack Nolan (Accrington)
Joe Powell (Burton) Dan Kemp (MK Dons) Charlie Lakin (Burton)
Will Ferry (Cheltenham) Sam Sherring (Northampton) Conor Masterson (Gillingham) Joel Senior (Morecambe)
Marko Marosi (Shrewsbury)
Smart recruitment is more important than throwing money at it.

I find it fascinating that we could build a side out of other teams out of contract players, but our players are out of contract cos they're crap!

Half of the players I listed won their club's player of the season award.
They aren't signing new contracts because they must think they can move up to bigger clubs.
The only one of them I think may be an unrealistic target for us is Femi Azeez because I can see Championship teams wanting him.

the “Special K” elements ; Kev, Kenny and Keshi. They were Championship standard
Keshi only made 20 appearances for a struggling Brum, Kev Stewart was one of the reasons for our relegation because he was a load on the books and Dougall was great but was he really Championship standard?

I think you are being harsh on Morgan, I wasn’t impressed at first but he really came into form early this calendar year and until his injury he was absolutely superb.

Totally understand your reservations about Norburn & Carey though. I expect more from
Norburn, maybe the formation isn’t suiting him, I don’t know.

Carey I am surprised we’ve kept on, we keep waiting for him to push on but I’m yet to see anything really apart from one half at Fleetwood away.

They also do pick out good targets if the media is to be believed (Colby Bishop & Brannagan being the prime examples) but the issue is getting them over the line.

We need a bigger war chest despite it being a top 6 one?
We’d best land some good loan players, otherwise it could be another struggle to be up there next season.
