I know we’ve been absolutely shocking away from home. But we’ve also been brilliant this year aswell. Made some top signings, he brings stability after a terrible season on and off the pitch last year and must be given more time. If things don’t go to plan on Saturday I have full faith next year will be our year. Keep the faith

Dream on. We’ve been very average in what has been a very poor league this season. If by some miracle we get promoted fine. If not no chance we are getting promoted next season. Will be much harder with decent teams dropping down from Championship and Wrexham, Stockport etc coming up. All our best players are loans and will go back and key players like Marv and Gabriel will go. If we don’t get promoted this season we have major problems, Critchley being one of them.

I wouldn't class us as being brilliant, I can think of 5-6 performances which were brilliant. Some of our home wins were extremely dour affairs.

Interestingly, one of our best performances this season we actually drew 2-2 against Charlton, all because our manager shut up shop and brought Connolly on and swapped CJ to mark their best player. So if we think about points dropped, that was unnecessary one.

Who else would you have in charge? Where do you expect us to be? Pompy derby Bolton and Barnsley bigger clubs than us. Lincoln Peterborough and oxford have better players than us. Hence why we’re in this position

The game against Charlton at home we hammered them. Should be 4/5 nil up

Barnsley are not a bigger club than us. The same size I'd say.

Why do you pluck Derby, Portsmouth and Bolton out of that because they're bigger clubs? Are Bournemouth a bigger club than us? Are we a bigger club than Charlton because we are above them? Bolton were 4th tier a couple of years ago. What difference did that make to the clubs size?

When we were in the prem and the likes of Leeds and Forest were in leagues below us, did their size matter?

Lincoln, Oxford etc have recruited better than us. Do you think the players we bought since Critchley has been herewere Sadlers targets?

Barnsley are bigger than us and that’s a fact.

If charlton had appointed a decent manager they would be up there where we are they spent money the wrong man spent it.

Why would Simon Sadler have targets? He just pays the money

Has to stay away from Blackpool yes we could of all been celebrating promotion now but we’ve got to stay in this shite division a season longer at least get rid now

Lg1 is where finesse and physicality meet. There are very few teams that can football their way out of this league, a possible exception last year was Ipswich and before that Middlesbrough. Portsmouth, Bolton, Barnsley, Oxford and Derby have been fairly stable building up strength in depth and have managed to find the right balance. Some of our best performances have been against 3 of those teams because they have given us some room to play.

That's where we need to evolve to add running power, physical strength and know-how. We need some physical strength and pace throughout the team so we can go toe to toe when it becomes a phyiscal battle.

The league is much more technical now and pitches are far better than decades ago.

A good footballing team can do well and you can see that with many of the better sides in the league.

Tbh the main measure was if we improved in the latter part of the season and tbf we have results wise, although at times there has still be some of the same mistakes and the games we played you'd have expected us to win many of them anyway.

We did it but rather unconvincingly.

I wouldn't be completely against a change, as we could really build a positive ST campaign behind it however also he has won back a little bit of faith with the season end so far and the last performance, but where has it been?

It would seem a bit mad to get rid now however maybe playoffs were the target and if we don't make it, that's still technically a failure, although we're very close. Or maybe having showed what can be in the last game it's a feeling of disappointment that it could and should have been.

It seems pretty obvious though that he'll be here now, as if you can feel like we're building towards something it's a risk to start again with someone else, although sometimes that risk brings reward, so too can sticking with.

However its not over yet, we've 1 away game and of we slumped to defeat, especially if results go our way and missed out we might question this again, as it's clear when used right we can beat anyone so it suggests that the setup and tactics aren't right and again, a what if.

Perhaps Lincoln, Peterborough and Oxford have better players because their recruitment has been better and that is down to the manager. Critchley's permanent signings have been average at best.

Pennington been brilliant. Albie Morgan very well till injured. Kyle Joseph very unlucky with injuries. Norburn one of the best midfielders in the league last year.

Manager doesn’t make the signings in the modern game. He’s involved but the main work is down to the scouting and recruitment team.

Your argument is that other clubs recruiting team identified better targets than us.

Completely agree. I would just stick to the argument that Crithley's formation and tactics are shite.

April 1st has been and gone I'm afraid..

List all the usernames on AVFTT, stick them up on the dartboard and throw a dart, and I guarantee that person would pick a better team and formation than Critch

We should be back in the Championship already

Said at start of the season; give him this season and unless we make automatic promotion then we need to move on

My issue is we’ve been playing with the handbrake on all season. When we went for it in the first hour against Barnsley we showed what this squad is capable of. We have seriously underperformed this season and that is on the manager.

On the Stick or Twist thread 70% have voted to stick, so maybe the OP is representative of the majority.

There's truth in both camps as far as I'm concerned. Too many poor performances this season, points squandered. But we still might make the playoffs and finish above the allegedly superior Oxford and Lincoln. We looked a good side last weekend, but it was our final home game, and we still nearly squandered a three goal lead.

Next season we will have to replace the spinal quality of Dembele, Byers and Ekpiteta, and find some strikers. Would we rather Critchley did that, or someone else? I'm not really sure tbh. If we changed manager it could go either way we could easily regret it, or we could be delighted that we did. Or we might feel like it didn't make much difference.

The only sides that have consistently ground out results this season are the top two, and maybe Bolton. There are Bolton fans who moan about Evatt and lack of consistency. Portsmouth and Derby are big clubs. Peterborough is the only other side with more than two points above us, and they have some quality players. We are in the next bunch of 4 teams.

We could have got into that top group but we took ages to get the defence settled with Marv in it, the wing backs were poor for far too long, Norburn has underwhelmed, Dougall flounced, and only Rhodes has looked potent up front, and only for half the season. Is all that Critchley's fault? No, but some of it is.
