Jerry You Should Stay.

Second floor boardroom. Sadler “As our very own Tony Green could tell you a football career is short at best and can be ended with one injury so I wish you nothing but the best if you decide to go now. But I believe in you, the manager believes in you and this season we ‘re going to build a team around you that plays to your strengths. I believe in that environment you’ll score 25 goals this season which will be a big factor in us getting promoted and I believe that this will result in better clubs coming in for you and better options on the table for you and your family. Have a talk with your wife and your agent and know that if you do decide to stay there will also be a performance/loyalty bonus coming your way.”

Goals win games so if we’re serious about getting out of the void that is league one I think we should keep him.

Got to agree with the logic of him getting a bigger payday,
He's not a blackpool fan although I'm sure he will always be fond of his time here
This could be his big chance to stay in the championship and get a better wage than we will ever be able to give him

He’s a good player with a great attitude and desire to get better. If he scores 25 next season, and we get promoted better clubs will come in for him, he’ll get a bigger salary, we ‘ll get a bigger fee and we are in a division that should be our base camp and which will enable Sadler to sleep at night in regard to finances.

Yates is proven. His young family are settled and our primary objective should be promotion. Future signings if not past loans will take a moment to settle and all have an element of gamble about them. I want to stack the odds in our favour.

We know he can put the ball in the net. If we keep him we can focus on strengthening the midfield and defense which got us relegated. Only a myopic viewpoint thinks selling him is our best way to get promoted at the first time of asking.

Jerry is top half League One and bottom half Championship.
Of those 24 clubs in that criteria, why shouldn't he be with us? Where's the ambition?
We wasted so much on the likes of Stewart and co last season - put some of that money in to keeping him.
Show some ambition!!
Only problem is we ain't paying over 10-12k+ he'll be able to earn elsewhere.

The ball really is in Jerry's court we'd all love him to stay but if we get a decent fee for him and he wants to leave let him go.
And that, unfortunately is the way in the modern world. Me, myself and I !!!
And you'd be any different if you where offered to potentially double you salary elsewhere behave.

I was offered that twice and turned it down both times. You’re not taking money or stuff with you to the next life and some things are more important than money.

It’s a balance as ever. No point going for a small rise if he’s fighting in a lower Championship team to get game time.
However if a ‘Boro or WBA or even one of the relegated Prem teams show interest then of course you go.
Play in front of bigger crowds, better facilities, good money and chance of Prem again.

but the manager didn't fully believe in him did he?

Quitchleave left him on the bench a lot on his first spell as manager…if we can get decent money for him reinvest in a decent creative midfielder imo…😎

In the middle of last season, when he scored two goals in three games, whilst getting the winner at Coventry, he was easily top half of the Championship material. You need a good team around you to be shown at your best and, for a brief spell, we were the real McCoy.

Goals win games. Critchley knows and so does Sadler. This time around Critchley has to rebuild his reputation because failure now means he’s at best a coach and not a manager. I think everyone would be motivated to play Yates.

I would love Jerry to stay but I would also love him to fulfil his potential, playing in a decent Championship side that play football.

He'd suit someone like Cov down to the ground.

I don't think Critchley coming back really helps with any unlikely desire he'd have to stay here as the two of them quite clearly didn't see eye to eye in their second season together and Yates was one of the few players who improved under Appleton who seemed to have far more faith in him than Critchley did season before last.

The model as outlined by our owner requires us to sell to improve. If we get a good fee for Jerry we sell. He's nothing at all to prove at the level we're at. He's already got enough on his CV to suggest he's better than league 1.

Conversely, Bowler hadn't yet shown enough to prove beyond doubt that he's better than the level he was at. He could and should have signed an extension and got on with playing well for us. Jerry I don't think needs to do that.

I wish I could convince myself that there was an argument that he should stay but I can't think of one that isn't 'I want him to'

Think he’ll be gone by the end of next week and good luck to the lad he ran his heart out last season in every game he played in shame the other players didn’t.
What complete crap! We didn't go down because any of our players didn't put the effort in. It was poor decisions made in selecting the Head Coaches and then poor decisions by them and poor tactics (Stephen Dobbie excluded)

It’s even more crap if your suggesting a decent manager would have kept this lot up.
We got relegated for a reason we didn’t get relegated because we had a shite manager or two being the case.
The squad simply wasn’t good enough and it wasn’t strengthened in January when we were staring relegation in the face.

Sadler bought the club on a whim in my opinion. The cold hard reality is that he can't afford it. The Bowler money, the Quitch money and no doubt the money for Jerry will not be invested in new players but will be used to fund the day to day running of the club. We'll be lucky to stay up this season. Saviour ? No , an owner out of his depth who lacks communication skills !!!!!!!!!

Idiot! You know nothing.

A great whim in my opinion. He stood up ,a local lad and without doubt put his money where his mouth was to quote a well known saying. To have you quoting “cold hard reality” is absolute crass mouthing. In any way have you got even a slither of knowledge of his finances? . Bought your season ticket yet. ?

Why would I buy a season ticket ? It's like you coming to London every second game of the season but of course you would do that as you're a season ticket Uber fan are'nt you ?;
I travel home and away buy merchandise etc but you put fuck all into the club then have the cheek to criticize our owner who does.
Just bore off. 👍

Anyway back to the question , would you travel to London every second game, a 10 hour round trip every two weeks for the whole of the season ?

No unless the owner showed tangible intent with his Cheque book that we were aiming for promotion. Then it would be another best trip scenario and I may well do so.

Where on earth did you pluck 90 million pounds from? Pure fairy tale conjecture.
That's the figure Sadler quoted as the long term (10 year?) projection of his spending at the structured dialogue meeting. Whilst there's obviously no way of knowing if he actually will spend it, he had costed it and went through a rough breakdown of how he'd come to that figure.

Do you know any business in any field that can honestly look ten years into the future and predict needs, events , circumstance and inflation? Silliness.

Was about to write something very similar.
I'd sooner only have 3 strikers in the squad and plough the extra money in to Jerry's wage - am sure now the likes of Madine, Stewart and Maxwell have gone that the rest would appreciate why Yates would be on more than they are.

You might be right but I hope you are wrong. Don’t think we’re getting promoted if we do sell him.
That's the thing. people don't understand that to buy a replacement, someone who scores is going to cost a fair chunk of any fee received for Jerry, not to mention wages. So, just how much would you make? It's unknown.

If there is serious interest, proper serious interest, then I'd probably sit down with the lad, see if we can give him a pay rise in exchange for a higher release clause (if he has one, if not insert £5/6m) and a % to the player over and above a baseline which may be £3m.

That way he is protected against loss of potential wages in the short term, the Club doesn't have to buy a Golden Gamble and the fans have that bit of faith back.

I'm sure it must be more complicated than I say, otherwise they'd be doing just that???? Then again....

If you were Jerry would you stay?...no ambition shown from the club at all yet and another long long season ahead as things stand...careers are short and he should be able to secure a decent deal...I hope he stays but I just can't see it

10 hours driving On average, yes.
Fair play to them.
I used to live in Corby, what with the toll road and todays petrol prices it's an expensive and tiring labour of love nowadays.

There's the lad who comes from Portsmouth for home games, and 2 lads who sit in my block travel up from Ipswich.
My mate flew back in from Canada for the Millwank game last season, we really do have some loyal, and amazing fans.
