Jake Daniels: Jordan Henderson's move to Saudi Arabia a 'slap in the face' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67500698
Sport can be, and often is, a catalyst for change. The reason his coming out was a big thing was not just the superficial milestone but what it meant - that somebody had the balls to unapologetically be themselves and represent others who might still be too afraid. As the only one in England active and out of the closet, and somebody who achieved some profile on the back of inclusivity in football and the idea of a need for more role models, I would say his voice is probably one that ought to be heard specifically regarding the Hendo issue.I'm just interested in what he can do on the pitch
To be fair it was a big thing when he came out however his sexuality should be irrelevant and now I just want to see him achieve his potential
Correct.I'm just interested in what he can do on the pitch

Seems his special connection withwas even strongerIncredibly well spoken and proud he’s ours.
He’s right too, Henderson was an outspoken ally of LGBTQ Rights and had a special connection with the Liverpool LGBTQ supporters group so going to Saudi Arabia is incredibly hypocritical.
But Hendo is an ambassador to the beautiful game....Seems his special connection withwas even stronger
You can fool some of the people some of the time etc etcIncredibly well spoken and proud he’s ours.

Here’s a question for the above…
Do you think that Jake Daniels would have come out publicly if he didn’t sort a massive financial deal with Adidas before the reveal?
Money is important for them both. Nothing wrong with that btw, just don’t lose sight out of it.
Don't blame him for cashing in. There is no guarantee he will have a career in football. Here’s a question for the above…

Exactly, so it’s a strange one he criticises Henderson, when he’s clearly cashing in himself.Don't blame him for cashing in. There is no guarantee he will have a career in football.
And whilst he very well might be "just another footballer" to a lot of us, his coming out is very important to people who may have, or have had similar struggles as Jake has. It's a bit undermining to state "he's just a footballer" because the real world what he has done by coming out is rather significant.
Not really the same though is it? Jake might get some sponsorship from a company as he's had the guts to come out as being gay. The other is raking in millions from a regime that outlaw being gay and do terrible things to gay people whilst having the cheek to be a huge supporter of gay rights.Exactly, so it’s a strange one he criticises Henderson, when he’s clearly cashing in himself.
The point is, would he have had the guts without getting a big chunk of £££.Not really the same though is it? You're inventing scenarios to be cynical about. The point is, would he have had the guts without getting a big chunk of £££.
I reckon he’d go play in Saudi for a big chunk too. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Let’s not kid ourselves.
Hey Gareth - nowt to do with the thread but did you know DB did the latest podcast on Absolute Radio? it's the one where Tim Burgess ( Charlatan's lead singer ) reviews old albums with the artists with him in the studio - they review When the world knows your Name - Ricky and Lorraine are with him - it's a great listen i didn't realise Wages Day was nearly a B side !!Jake Daniels: Jordan Henderson's move to Saudi Arabia a 'slap in the face' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67500698
This. You're inventing scenarios to be cynical about.
"What if he didn't get an endorsement?"
"Imagine if he went to Saudi himself."
It's not hypocritical to make money and take advantage of opportunities. It becomes hypocritical when those opportunities completely contradict the values you've presented to the world previously.
Thanks pal. I've heard snippets if it but need to listen yo the whole thing yet. Yes, they wanted to do Wages Day as just Ricky and a piano originally. I've heard it and it's beautiful, but it's no get up and dance Wages DayHey Gareth - nowt to do with the thread but did you know DB did the latest podcast on Absolute Radio? it's the one where Tim Burgess ( Charlatan's lead singer ) reviews old albums with the artists with him in the studio - they review When the world knows your Name - Ricky and Lorraine are with him - it's a great listen i didn't realise Wages Day was nearly a B side !!
ha ha indeed - they sang it at their daughters wedding - they didn't invite me though !!!Thanks pal. I've heard snippets if it but need to listen yo the whole thing yet. Yes, me neitherha ha indeed - they sang it at their daughters wedding - they didn't invite me though !!!
The Saudi one yep fair enough. You're inventing scenarios to be cynical about.

I have feeling that MONEY might have been a factor.Jake Daniels: Jordan Henderson's move to Saudi Arabia a 'slap in the face' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67500698
If you think he came out as a selfish money-grabbing scheme then that's fair enough, you've seen the worst in a young lad who plays for Blackpool for reasons I can't speculate on.The Saudi one yep fair enough.
The boot deal nope. It was banded about to the highest bidder before he went public.
People can talk about how brave he is & how he’s doing it for this and that but money was also a highly motivating factor in going public.
That’s not a scenario, that happened.
Which is why slagging off someone for making a money decision is somewhat ironic.
I'm not sure you quite grasp either a) the difference or b) irony. The Saudi one yep fair enough.

Wish he wouldJake was on North West news this morning they referred him midfielder of Blackpool & England!
Is he taking Henderson squad place for the Euro's.
Is that not the problem though that his sexuality should be irrelevant and yet here we are 12 months on and there's not been anyone else come forward. My mate has been a physio at 3 (smaller) clubs and says there are 4 gay players in those clubs (obviously won't telll me who) and yet each are afraid to come out. Until this is irrelevant and actually organisations like FIFA don't recognise countries who make it illegal then it will continue to be a story.however his sexuality should be irrelevant and now I just want to see him achieve his potential
What utter bullshit! Coming out was a massive thing for him - the attention he got and with the way we still have plenty of idiots in the world, it could have gone horribly wrong. Would he have expected the commercial deals - I doubt it - if he'd been a big Prem player then maybe but he has hardly broken in to our squad - I think the deals would have come as an unexpected surprise and why shouldn't he take advantage of that.People can talk about how brave he is & how he’s doing it for this and that but money was also a highly motivating factor in going public.

Jake will continue to be the go-to footballer on this until others come out and join him.
I don’t think it was solely a money-grabbing scheme but I think it played a big partIf you think he came out as a selfish money-grabbing scheme then that's fair enough, you've seen the worst in a young lad who plays for Blackpool for reasons I can't speculate on.

He’s not slagging somebody off for making a money decision, he’s criticizing somebody for lending his public profile to a morally backwards nation after pretending to be a passionate defender of LGBTQ rights. He would equally be criticizing him if he’d gone there on minimum wage. It’s not about the money it’s about the message his being there sends. The Saudi one yep fair enough.

The thing about it is he doesn't even really play in front of crowds, he's not even broken through yet.Is that not the problem though that his sexuality should be irrelevant and yet here we are 12 months on and there's not been anyone else come forward. 100% and glad they mentioned Gerrard as well as Henderson because that money grabbing bar-steward who effectively helped us to lose our Championship status shouldn't go without criticism.Good lad, and got some spine. Got loads of respect for him. Hope he does well.
It’s a fact that his agent was shopping the story around to big brands and news outlets prior to him coming out.If you think he came out as a selfish money-grabbing scheme then that's fair enough, you've seen the worst in a young lad who plays for Blackpool for reasons I can't speculate on.
Why don't you bugger off back to your own board? It’s a fact that his agent was shopping the story around to big brands and news outlets prior to him coming out.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that but it’s a touch hypocritical to then slate Henderson and use comments like “the money clearly means more to people” and “the money pays well” to criticise him rather than just focus on the actual issue.
It's not hypocritical at all. It’s a fact that his agent was shopping the story around to big brands and news outlets prior to him coming out.
