January 2024 Transfer thread.

I see we've missed out on some guy from Crewe . Signing for Rovers. Nobbers and Coventry were also in for him .
Not sure we were ever in with a real chance with a host of Champ clubs interested in him - bit of how shall we say ‘tenuous journalism’ with Critchley’s link to Crewe. I’m sure we probably enquired and wanted to do a deal but once the Champ clubs started looking our chances of getting him went to nil very quickly.

If they had that then Rhodes would be ours but they don’t and deals are few and far between in January
They've got a full squad of 25 players. Rhodes was surplus to requirements. And he struggled to score at that level for 5 consecutive seasons.

You disagree got it. If I was at Huddersfield in their position I’d take him back let someone else leave their squad. That is unless I found what I thought was a better choice at a reasonable price.

They may take him back. I've no idea. It's not certain though. Five years of struggle at that level and he finally drops one and finds his feet age 33. He may wish to carry on and they may well decide not to stand in his way and spend the money elsewhere.

Goalscorers command a premium and realistically when you factor in transfer fee and wages Rhodes represents the cheapest option.

That's true but for five years he struggled to score goals at that level. If he goes back, there's a very good chance he will be largely inactive and his career will stall yet again. I'm not convinced that will happen. It might, but it would be a waste and I doubt he wants to go back when he's waited so long for regular starts and the opportunity to enjoy his football.

In fact it's 8 consecutive seasons that he fell short in the Championship. Lifted from Hudds forum...

"out of 12 seasons in the Championship He’s had 4 seasons where he’s got into double figures, which were his first 4 seasons. He’s than had 8 seasons since where he’s failed to get into double figures."

"In the seasons since he’s scored 10, 6, 3, 5, 6, 3, 7, 3 & 5 goals."

After watching his interviews talking about how happy he is here, I dont think for a second he wants to go back. I'm hoping that Huddersfield take that into account, but at the end of the day they will do what's best for them. I just hope this is sorted one way or the other soon, so we can carry on with the rest of the window. I feel like we're waiting on Huddersfield to make a decision before we do anything else.

His interview certainly did show how happy he was here, even mentioned his kids were settled here if memory serves me right.

For me, if Huddersfield wanted him back it would be done already.

What decision is there to be made. The guy is bang in form so you would take him back. They must have assessed the situation and thought he’s clearly happy at Blackpool and we don’t think he can do a job for us.

Here’s hoping anyway.

Gazette article just posted has a Critchley quoted as saying "We're still waiting for a decision, that window is still open. It will close soon." Sounds like we will know one way or the other in the next week or so.

If they can’t get anyone else it’s so costly to be relegated that they would be obligated to recall him. Even if he scores half the goals he’s scored for us it’s still more than they are getting now and goals win games. He is the lowest cost most proven option for them. If the Huddersfield manager is smart he’ll watch our games and figure out what our team gives Rhodes that his team did not.
Rhodes won’t be able to do what he’s doing for us in the Championship with them.

Owen Moxon injured again or kept out of the Carlisle squad today for a reason ?
I saw Nixon saying that we weren't in for him so far this window. I know he's massively hit and miss, but it was leaked to him in the summer so if it was to gets leaked to anyone then it will probably be him. Saying that, wouldn't surprise me if we just announced him out of nowhere.

Thank god we extended CJ's contract🥵phew!!
I've been tracking your Hamilton posts Wizzer and I have to say I'm agin 'em! Yesterday his assist was bob on for our second. I've watched him many a time placing deft flicks into the paths of others and he's built up a good partnership with Dembele on the right. Give him some slack dear boy.

Who's Wisser?😉
I'll give hin 15 minutes the next match😁👍🏻

George Byers would be a great signing. Decent return of goals, with most from outside the area and several well timed headers from corners. Proven at L1 also with Wednesday fans universally saying good things about him.

According to a lad I went to Uni with, Byers is out of contract at the end of the season and Wednesday just want a bit of cash out of him before he goes. He hasn't made the step up to the Championship, which has surprised alot of Wednesday fans as they thought he would, but is a very solid league 1 player

With Rhodes staying, Lavery back in contention, Kouassi not being too far off and Beesley only being out for a couple of weeks I think we can cross striker off our list now
