Apter back to Tranmere?

Heard he was training with them again with a view to another loan for the rest of the season in another thread.

Not sure how true it is but we may as well not build the academy if we’re never going to give youth a chance. I was the last youth product to get regular starts? Bright Osayi-Samuel?

I'm sure Rob will have a say too. Maybe its "job half done" from him, and it would do him the world of good to finish strong there.
If I recall, he started at Tranmere under 18's, so an element of paying them back a little maybe?

Can only loan him back to Tranmere in the EFL this season if he goes back out as he's already played for us in the league cup.

There has been a couple of rumours spread about him signing a contract extension. Going back on loan to carry on his development in L2 under an experienced manager in a team doing well would make some sense at that point.

Who knows though. Just rumours until we see tomorrow's team sheet and get an idea of how he fits back in here if he's named.

I just don’t think he would get game time with us this season?

Hes not a wingback so therefore he’s competing with Rhodes, Dembele, Joseph or Shayne for a starting berth.

Oops, didn't realise cup games counted. 👍

I'd rather he played, which I'm not convinced he'd do with us.

He's clearly got potential, and maybe he could step up now. My ideal would be sign a new contract and unless it's the intention to play him now, send him back, or even better, send to a L1 club.
He can't go to another League One club. It's Tranmere or stop with us.

As the OP says, what is the point of the youth/development teams if we don’t play them? Now Gabriel is back we can play a 4-4-2 or variation of with Dembele and Dale on the wings and Apter to bring on as a sub.
But that would be too positive wouldn’t it?
We are doomed to play this wing-back crap until eternity

We don’t play 442 though.
If he develops further at Tranmere I don’t see the issue with him staying there.

His loan has served him really well and improved him, it's ridiculous for us Not to loan him back. He isn't going to play consistently ahead of Dembele, Rhodes, Lavery, CJ, Dale, Joseph even Carey in one of those front 3 positions. He's better being loaned to carry on developing then coming back next season to compete for one of those places when he is even better.
We seem to clamour to play players who aren't ready just cos they are through our academy. Players like him, Holmes and the like and they are clearly not good enough to play yet which is damaging for them. They need time to develop in a 'lesser' team unless they are exceptional and ready now and we don't have one of them. Developing players is all about patience and time.

Everyone who has seen him play for Tranmere in the last 2 or 3 months seems to think that he is exceptional. And in my eyes we are not what we should be in the attacking third. CJ misfires too often, and if Dembele gets injured we're knackered. I think we will likely regret sending him back to the Wirral.

How do you know Apter isn’t ready without playing him? What if Dembele gets injured? What other creative player have we got to fill that role?

Port Vale played 2 players in defence who are far younger than Apter, guess what they won

How is giving him a contract until 2027 not giving him a chance? By being loaned out to Tranmere where he’s settled and playing well he’ll develop far more than he would here making the occasional start/cameo off the bench.

Unless you think he should be starting every game for us?

But you’ve just highlighted why sending him back to Tranmere is probably the right decision.

Keep him here and use him as a sub or let him go back there where he’s starting every week.

Exactly. Best for both parties, and he's happy to sign a deal for 3 years, so all the wanting away speculation is complete bollocks.

"I now can't wait to go back to Tranmere Rovers for the second half of the season. They really made me feel welcome there and gave me a platform to show what I can do at League Two level. I'm looking forward to heading back and completing what feels like unfinished business."

He's going back, it's on the club website 12 minutes ago.

Might as well loan him back. He won't play in our silly formation.
I agree I think it’s a waste of a talent we haven’t got much other than kd to get us of our bums.was it crappleton who said of him something like he was the best player on the pitch in a game.I wouldn’t be surprised if he said stuff critchley and let his contract run down

That was a tough read

Carries on his development at Tranmere and comes back as a ready made replacement for Dembele next season sounds fair enough. Though I'd like us to put a cheeky bid in for Dembele and we'd be in a far better place to do that if we could sneak in through the playoffs.

Needs to be a given a role that suits and he wouldn't have gotten that with Critchley
Had Dembele been recalled, you could see Rob maybe slotting into that role. I think he would do well in it.

Overall though, I think it's good business. We clearly still see a future for him here but don't want to prevent him playing regular first team football and feeling like he did half a job there.

Karaoke Dembele dob 22.02.23
Rob Apter dob 23.02.23.
Cautious Critch happy to take a chance developing youngsters, just not our own.
Very pleasantly surprised that Rob has signed a new contract, not in the least bit surprised he's returning to Tranmere.
Definitely for the best as he wouldn't get a chance under Critch this season.

So are you saying that Apter is at the same level as Dembele

So the rumours were true for once. Well that's something if he's signed a contract for longer than I'd expect Critchley to still be here playing this way.

Nigel Adkins is a Mr Positive 4-4-2 guy who expects his wingers to put a shift in for the team at both ends of the pitch so he'll do well to carry on learning a trade back with them if he's not going to get a sniff here for now.

Glad we got him on a new contract before he went. If he's not gonna get regular mins in our team then it's best for him to keep developing at Tranmere. Hopefully he's got a big future with us.

Maybe we'll regret sending Apter out on loan, but Dembele is a better player and should be first name on the team sheet. He could arguably be playing in a higher division and he was a bit of a gem find, to be honest.

Locking Apter down, contract-wise, and getting him constant football at a club he's well-liked I'm all for - he's clearly coming on leaps and bounds there and probably suits him over being rotated / played out of position here. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it.

Surely this is good news for both the player and us? We keep him on a longer contract, which he was obviously happy to sign, and he continues to get proper game time rather than the odd cameo appearance for us.
If Dembele moves on at the end of his loan, we've got a ready made replacement who has gained valuable experience this season, seems like a win, win to me.

Initially I wanted him to stay put, given his rapid development, why chnage it.

Then reading the reports and seeing some goals etc, he was surely with a shot with us, a good option given we've lacked at times in creativity away particularly.

If not now then when, given he had little time left.

That's now sorted with a new deal which is great news and going back to continue that rapid development makes sense in many ways. He will develop more in those games than in bit part games against better opposition, also in a different system he has to adjust to.

Overall probably just about for the best and maybe we have some more attacking player lined up?

Happy to get him sorted with a new contract. Hope he can push ok at Tranmere for the rest of the season and then come back to us and really fight for a first team spot. He certainly got the talent to it.

We don’t really know because Critchley never bother’s playing our own young kids. Disappointed to see him go back to Tramcar Rovers & I’m also suffering a disconnect with Critchleys insistence in this ** system. I’ll go to the games I’ve paid for but my enthusiasm has never really fully recovered from the boycott years & of course last season didn’t help either. We needed a fresh start with someone rather than Critchley IMHO. I’ll not mention who I wanted 😜

I’m not sure we’ll see him in a tangerine shirt. The contract is in place to ensure that when he moves on we get a decent fee. The coach here prefers to develop other clubs’ younger players rather than his own.

If we scrape promotion I can see us making an offer. We’ve got investment incoming. The lad has got the X Factor

Yes, have him here as a sub to impact our team as opposed to Tranmere’s.

I think we all know he isn't better than Dembele not by a long way currently. He will though fit in that position next season after a good campaign in League 2 to give him much needed experience.

Give youth a chance like who?

I've been to a development squad game, friendlies and EFL trophy ties this season
not a single player has stood out and I thought they should be around the Lge 1 first
team squad.

It's how the football pyramid works send your players out on loan and they should come back stronger as we've had our fair share.

Totally the correct thing to do with Apter.
