Blackpool v Bolton BSM Trophy Official Matchnight Thread 30.01.24

for a neutral that is what cup games are all about - it was a battle- particularly the second half, sounded like 25,000 there in the stadium. Bolton the better side in the first half, but our tactics of knocking long balls to two players who are barely six foot one on top of the other was ludicrous. we couldn't control the midfield and hence just kept playing long balls.

second half though Virtue was immense, Gabriel was fantastic defensively, Kouassi and CJ gave us something extra when they came on and Dembele got a bit a space to play.

haven't seen a replay of the Gabriel goal cos I'm 99% sure it wasn't offside, but the liner on that side was flagging for everything in the first half and then nothing in the second half, the foul on Gabriel should have been a straight red, it was cynical deliberate and stopped a clear break.

Fantastic performance second half.
Virtue outstanding and Kouassi very impressive on his return.
Loads of positives to take from this.
I struggle to understand why Virtue is pilloried as much as, he is.
Maybe not always a starter but I thought second half he was the best midfielder out there.
Still only 26 and finally over a massive injury

Chisnall had me convinced it was in, then I saw the players going mad cue bedlam, great second half from us, far more aggressive, Gabriel has to start, best tackler of the ball I've seen in a long while.
you know I think Gabriel would make a very good central midfielder, he's got decent distribution, is really solid tackle wise, fantastic recovery, he's got pace and can drive forward with the ball.

Draw on Friday. Peterborough, Bradford, Wycombe/BHA U21(play tomoz)

🤞for another home game

I left the house in the last minute.

I can't watch penalties - penalty shoot out - not a chance.

So first half looked like two teams who didn't really want to be there. Bolton better, but nothing which felt like we were under the cosh.

Second half felt like a cup tie and we were better than them. Felt like it could be Charlton again as we didn't take our chances.

Delighted to get home to find out we've won.

The fella who elbowed JG in the back of the head should have had a red, but the ref let plenty go all night.

Glad someone else noticed that elbow on Gabriel a red card all day long.

I refer you to posts 400 and 439 on the matchday thread. Hypocrisy is not a good look.

I said he needs to play because Rhodes is knackered and needs a rest, because we don’t have anyone else. We have Kouassi now so he and Rhodes, if fit, and Joseph, will be ahead of him, being a stalky c**t is an even worse look.

Great entertainment….some iffy football at times but that added to the entertainment tonight. Great penalty shoot out to cap it off.Good we got to take them in front of our our supporters.
O’Donnell outstanding all night (albeit a few poor kicks) but saves brilliant.
Gabriel fantastic as was Kouassi when he came on…..Lavery had a stinker for me as did Virtue. CJ Also excellent when he came on and one important block when he tracked back.
£50k prize money for winning tonight…..another home tie in semi’s would be nice….UTMP

Last time Kouassi put in a fantastic performance was at Reading where he scored and won MOM

The following game Critch benched him
