Just been told I've got to self isolate into October, so what does a man do? Of course, he comes straight onto AVFTT and asks banal questions to pass the time.
So, of all the away runs you've done, what stands out as your favourite? Not necessarily because we won - and lets face it, it would narrow the selection down significantly - just that you had a great day out for whatever reason.
I'm going for Oxford in the 84 FA Cup after we'd beaten City previous, it was my first long haul trip, done on an Astley Tours coach. Went with a older bloke from work who I barely knew called Eddie. Remember stopping off off somewhere in middle England, might have been Banbury?, there were two pubs either side of a village green, one accepted football the other didn't. We went in the not accepted for a quiet one, very civilised.
We took loads to the game, I was right at the back and you could see over the wall into the alley behind. It was already packed then the alley filled with another big group who I assume was the train crowd, so Lord knows how many we ended with there. It just seemed to be one of those days where everyone went, like Walsall last day of the season, or Barnet.
We played great too, think we were very hard done by in losing. Oxford were on the up at the time, just before they went into the top divisions and got to the League Cup final, but we gave as good as we got.
I also remember Everton playing them there soon after, Adrian Heath scored very late to win it. Their fans were rammed in, and they flowed down the whole terrace when that happened, looked incredible and I recall thinking we had the whole of that end as well, we must have looked something similar.
