Doncaster Rovers v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 24.11.20

Wounded, Draw would of been a fair result, seen some pathetic penalties for bullshit handballs in the prem this season. We don’t get a lot of luck with officials.

Horrific half. Complacency after half time. Shit happens in football, especially when you switch off. Learning curve. At half time so many on here getting carried away. It's always one extreme or the other innit? No composure whatsoever. None of us saw that second half coming but people need to cope better than this. It's a set back after a period of progress. That's life folks.

Anyone else wonder why Maxwell is our captain ? Who is the person that can drag the team up by the scruff of the neck when the shit hits the fan ?! Spearing may have past it in terms of ability but his personality will be being missed

As much as we should have had a pen at the end, we can't blame the officials there. Poor half from us and we let them win it - the buck stops with us I'm afraid. Not sure how you're calling it offside with a camera situated at the half way line, either.
We were poor, but the bullshit decisions swung the game in their favour.
Definitely not making excuses, the second half we were well below where we need to be, but you cannot account for those sort of nonsense decisions.

That was a massive shame. But let's not start blaming the ref, we clearly thought the game was won at half time, and that needs stamping out. Some on here thought it was won too, including me if I'm honest.

So let's just say we need to learn lessons from that, admit that Donny played well in the second half and move on. We've made enough progress in the last few weeks to be encouraged and dare I say optimistic. We all need to realise how rare it is to win game after game after game. All teams seem erratic in this league, very evenly matched. We just need to keep on improving, and although the manner of the defeat is annoying, it happens.

Onwards and upwards!

We didn’t adapt to the change of their system and our midfield sat much deeper at the start of the second half which invited press.

We missed Williams tonight and for me the substitutes came on way to late in the game.

I was literally about to post that were improved but not blowing teams away, we dont score too many or have many clean wins by a few goals and still let in some cheap ones.

Whilst that's the case its always going to be up and down.

But the annoying thing for me is at times the lack of know how on the ball and bad possession, which I thought Critch would improve. The lack of control second half cost us.

We got a pretty soft penalty ourselves.

I imagine it’s a cup final winning atmosphere in the Donny dressing room right now though. Fair play to them.

We’ve struggled to adjust to in game situations for a large part of the season, teams often either identify our weaknesses or change themselves drastically, which will obviously happen in football, but we do absolutely nothing to counter act any in game changes.

Great first half where we were rarely troubled.

Being 2 up at half time and loosing is really unforgivable, it’s almost like the instructions at half time we’re to give up and not get on the ball or try for that matter.

The use of substitutes needs to be looked at again. In a word shocking. It was obvious we needed a tweek on about 55 minutes. That was crying out for Anderson or Woodburn to get on the ball just behind the front line. Yet we waited till the 81st minute to load four subs on. Truly dreadful management.

having said all that, I think Dougall actually got the ball for their pen and we should have been award one for that handball at the end.

We move on.

Their first goal was offside, the second was bad defending/goalkeeping, third was never a pen , and then the handball at the end. They were always going to have a good spell during the game, and they got the decisions. When Saturday comes we dust wissells doon and go again . UTMP

No it’s not, with our upturn recently it’s been encouraging, we are not going to win every game . NC will hopefully recognise he’s made mistakes tonight, not the end of the world as long as he learns.
I’m convinced from January February we will go on a decent run. Be patient.
False dawn. We've only beaten one team of note, Pboro. 3 points off relegation spot.

Anyone else wonder why Maxwell is our captain ? Who is the person that can drag the team up by the scruff of the neck when the shit hits the fan ?! Spearing may have past it in terms of ability but his personality will be being missed
Totally agree he is a shit keeper and no way should he be skipper. Give it Dougall. Team needed a steady hand 2nd half and a calming influence. Needed to get the ball and keep it. Gutted we just don't learn

That was the typical game of two halves.
At 2 up Pool probably thought, wrongly that they'd done enough.
IF they'd have taken one of the other chances then at 3 I believe it would have been all over.

It didn't help conceding early in the second and straight after should have re stamped their authority on the game. They didn't and with Donny scoring again so soon the game turned on its head.

I didn't think for a minute that that was a penalty for Doncaster and you're not likely to see a more blatant handball from their defender with time running out all season!!

Extremely disappointing but you only have to look at the Burton / Charlton result to see that the league is as open as ever.
Top 6 spot still attainable and hope Pool learn some very important lessons from tonight

Nowadays if you put your hands on the attacker in the box and impede his movement, you're gonna get penalised.

And everyone knows the new rules for handball. Well, everyone except the ref and the linesman tonight it seems.
Yeah it should have been a pen and I was fuming but I hope thats not the excuse, the decisions, as we just were not good enough second half.

Thats why we lost.

Poor on the ball, poor weight of pass, poor pressing, poor movement, poor in defence, poor in attack. Slow to make changes.

Thats where the game was lost.

If we didn't go long, pretty much all we did was pass it left to right and have no cutting edge most the second half.

Why are you even on here? Clearly not a Blackpool fan. Nobody has heard a peep from you in the last few games, I wonder why.
Fuck off and do a sudoku or something you stupid old tosser.
Just take comfort from the fact that a man like him is extremely unlikely to have any friends or a wife/girlfriend. A lonely, old, sad man with nothing better to do than try and wind people up. The guy is a loser. An absolute loser.

Definitely need an outfield player with some authority and gumption captaining.
The guys are left flailing when behind and heads go down. We need a a strong presence midfield managing the fall out.

Not watched but just kept upto date on here and Skysports news presume playerS got tired.
Shows that’s we can produce a fantastic performance first half.
Can’t win every game.

At least the ones that Bet365 got paid out.

Awful start to the second half, still think we need to have a captain/leader outfield, just my view but keeper too removed from a lot to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, anyway onwards to next game

It's a disappointing result.

First half we were very good.
Second half not so good; although they didn't create that many clear cut chances.

We need to make substitutions to keep on the front foot for me. We struggle when we don't have the impetus.

We remain a work in progress BUT we look like we can win away at a decent team.

We will get there.

Keep the faith.

It's a similar story from beg of season to now. We are dodgy at the back (why Ballard didn't play instead of Ekpiteta I'll never know) and we generally aren't clinical enough going forward. We always look good in general play but if you can't score enough when your on top and can't hold onto a lead when you do score then you have a problem.

Critchley won’t say that in his post match interview.

It’s not so much we’ve lost it’s how we’ve lost. If Critchley thought we were doing well up to 80 minutes either there is something wrong with me or him, and I don’t think it’s me.

So presumably he's known exactly what he's doing and been very astute in the last five games? Bodes well.

We shouldn’t get too carried away, it was a game we should have won comfortably. I don’t think they hurt us, we just defended poorly from the start of the 2nd half and gifted it to them.

The first goal may have been offside, but we were asleep for the shot.

The second goal, what was Marv doing letting the ball go, it was never reaching Maxwell.

For the penalty, I think it was Marv again, diving in, after Dougall had made a fair challenge.

Marv looks good when we’re going well, but he loses composure when we’re under pressure. I think we may see Ballard in next game.

Didn’t understand Yates coming off.

Overall, lots of positives and lessons to learn. If it doesn’t knock our confidence, we‘ll be better for the experience.

We obviously lost it in the second half having decided subconsciously that it was all a bit easy, but we could have blown them away in the first, they were wide open and struggling and we were all over them and yet struggled to carve out good chances. We are still lacking in the way we play into the penalty area and set up chances and take them, even when we are well on top. And free kicks and corners repeatedly wasted.

We are still a work in progress. Every team cocks things up occasionally. It was our turn tonight clearly.

Donny certainly came out after half time a different team & caught us napping, their first goal I thought was a little fortunate to get through the crowd of bodies, the second was a perfect through ball, the pen well we'd have been disappointed if it hadn't been given to us. We should have definitely had a pen, as he seemed to handle it twice & lastly how come there were only 3 minutes extra time. The ref's done us there too. Well it's got to be a harsh lesson, but hopefully we'll learn from it.

Wasnt Robsons night tonight.Im putting that down to coming back into the side tonight he didnt get that consistency especially with the free week before the last game. Dougall tried it wasnt his best night either.
