All of it means little if Labour are still goosed. And it wouldn’t be such a big deal if they weren’t.
Kidding yourself that we live in an effective democracy is not wise though. Labour continued its steep decline despite winning its highest vote share since 2001 4 years ago, it got them essentially fuck all.
In 2019 unionists won the popular vote in N.I. and won less power than republicans. Their higher vote share got them... fuck all.
In 2015 UKIP got more votes than the Lib Dems and SNP combined. It got them fuck all.
Since 2010 the Lib Dems have lost about half of the amount of voters they had, yet lost 86% of their Parliamentary power.
Our democracy is an old fashioned parlour game which favours those who have never worked a day in their life. It’s specifically designed to make sure the common rabble don’t directly decide, rather that their localized preferences can be manipulated into a state of affairs that always favours the continuation of the system and those that benefit from it.
Whilst I think moaning about that is pointless when that energy can be used learning to play it and defeat it, I also think it’s incredibly dumb and self defeating to pretend our government is elected on a popular vote. It’s unavoidable, getting fucked from behind by privately educated chancers (on both sides), but for Christ’s sake you don’t have to pretend to like it.
