The BFC player you always thought would come good .. but didn't!

Danny Philliskirk for me. Always thought he was played out of position and had so much more than he gave us. In the end, even when he was played in the right position he disappointed and it just wasn't to be. Yours?

John Evanson. Signed from Fulham as a promising winger. Allegedly him and Mickey Walsh didn't get on to the extent of not passing to each other. Not what you need from a winger and centre forward.

Everyone raved about Matty Kay at one point. Article here mentioning Everton, Tottenham and Man Utd interested.

Also remember being excited wen we signed Rob Clare - he was part of the England U21 squad and that suggested to a young me he must be a bit special...

Also Jose Cubero, Andy Reid, James Beattie and Sergei Kornilenko - high hopes for all of them :/

I was hopeful that Paul Dalglish would show us the the footballing skills he inherited off his Dad, however we got the Paul Dalglish who inherited his footballing prowess from his great Grandmother.
I so wanted him to prove me wrong.

Another one for Steve Davis we paid over half a million for him!
Also how about Joe Martin we signed from Spurs.

Chris Clarke. Always thought he had the attributes to be a cracking centre back. Sadly.....

Stand out one for me is Brian Griffiths. Star man at Wigan who regularly ripped us apart but he was useless.

Richard Sendall scored loads for the reserves but, other than the City game, I can’t remember him ever scoring for the first team.

Simon Wiles - thought it was really harsh he got mentioned in the 'worst ever' team on the podcast. Always felt like there was a player there that never quite got out. Lad was stuck in a dreadful side and seemed to want to do the right thing.

Also liked Bob Harris and surprised by how his career spiralled downwards and he was finished as full time pro by 29.

I truly thought Bednar was the missing piece but turned out he wasn't.

Coidy should have played at higher level (pre injury) - thought he was mint when he first came through. Certainly didn't 'not make it' but didn't make it as far as he could imo.

Matt Blinkhorn and Neil Midgley.
Both were banging them in for the reserves.
They were going to be the next wonder kids.

Blinks hatrick in the LDV one wet Tuesday night is still probably the falsest dawn I've ever seen.

Blinks had a bit of everything, but just not quite enough of it if that makes sense. He was an all round decent player but without one thing that he was really good at. (strong, but not a tank, not the slowest, but not a whippet, decent feet but not a ballet dancer and so on)

I don't remember Midgley at all. Thought Neil Midgley was a ref! When was this?

I thought Bob Harris was a cracking little player and disappointed when we released him. Wiles had do much potential. Didnt he get a bad injury?

Yes, I think he did and correct me if I'm wrong went out on loan after it and never came back into contention. If memory serves, he went to Macc along with Murphs when Ince was at Macc and kept them up by the skin of his teeth.

When we signed Tony Butler from Gillingham, there was a clause in his contract along the lines of "and £X will be paid in the event he plays for England..."
I don't think they tated whether it would be football.

Ian Gore was head and shoulders better thn him, albeit shorter.

The backpass rule ruined Gore's career.
