Bournemouth v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 21.08.21

I've got a feeling we may have a surprise result tomorrow 🤞 Gone 1-2 on the prediction.

Maxwell
James Connolly or Casey Ekpiteta Husband
Dougal Ward Carey
Bowler Jules
Lavery

If we are going to lose this one as everyone seems to forecast be a good time
to play some of the youngsters ,fringe players and players coming back from injury

In the broader scheme of things, this game and the Sunderland cup game could be considered as low priority. We should be using both these games as you suggest to ensure we have the best team out for next Saturday. Relatively speaking, with a stronger team, Millwall could be considered to be winnable (if any Championship games are!)

Neil Critchley says Kevin Stewart "possibly might come back into the squad, hopefully anyway".

If he does then even an hour out of him would give us an option to change some things I think

Maxwell
Ekpiteta Connolly Husband
Ward Dougall Stewart James Garbutt
Bowler
Yates

Refuse to cross the halfway line then try and rag a point or more out of the second half. Or manage the early goal diff as best as possible. The same approach to Sunderland away to get out of a rut and manages the numbers game in midfield.

Don't fancy the prospect of Keogh and Connolly up against Jaidon Anthony on their left. But then wherever else you look they've probably got a team of big athletes coming at you in waves, it's just how it is.

Like others, I think we might spring a surprise here - even a draw would be a surprise to most pundits 😆

Critch has never once adopted my team selection, but that never stops me trying. This is the "we'll never know unless we try team":

Maxwell

Connolly
(he's getting better at RB), BigMarv (no contest), Casey (has to be better than Keogh), Husband (his best position)

Ward (he's better on the right imo), Dougall (Duracell batteries recharged), Garbutt (reduce defensive pressure. Set pieces.)

Bowler Yates Lavery (ninja strike force of doom!)

Score: 2-2

With 3 at the back, you really need 5 in midfield. Is Stewart fit ? I’d like to see what Carey can do. I think Keshi needs a little more time, and a little more space than he will ever be afforded in this league.

With your set up it has to be Bowler and Yates as a front two - Ward and Garbutt firing in from the wings.

My prediction:

Maxwell
Connolly Ekpiteta Husband Garbutt
Dougall Ward
Anderson
Bowler Yates Lavery

2-0 loss, total over the top panicky meltdown on here, which will start when it's still 0-0.

I wouldn't be upset if we lost today as I'm expecting it, really tough opposition away from home. I'd snap your hand off for a draw, and if we nicked a win I'd be in dreamland!

COME ON THE POOL!

Carey was excellent versus Middlesbrough, I’d give him a start today and switch him for Anderson, also start big Marv and give Garbutt and Keogh a rest. My starting 11 would be…

Maxwell
Connolly Ekpiteta Casey Husband
Dougall Ward
Carey
Bowler Yates Lavery

Grim stat alert...

Blackpool have only won one of their last 40 away Championship matches, with their last success coming all the way back in April 2014.

The club’s winless run in the second tier stands at 21 matches, and it is a statistic that Critchley and his players will be looking to put right on Saturday afternoon.

Not sure that stat holds any ground tbh. Doesn't mean anything.

I think Pool could surprise a few today and wreck a few fixed odds coupons. Not saying they are going to win but a creditable draw would be like a win to me. I see a much better defensive showing and I see us taking one of the chances which we didn't take against Coventry. The players should be up for it when most pundits have put this down as a home banker and virtually written our players off. A 1-1 for me.

These things do happen, but it would be a pretty big upset for this happen today, I reckon. We'd need to improve a fair bit on our three performances so far. To do that requires changes in defence and midfield, surely, and those changes themselves would make us vulnerable while players like Marv get used to the speed and physicality and ability level. Bournemouth will have seen our first half struggles and will look to put the game to bed before half time, I'd imagine. Can we ride the storm? I reckon not, but it did take a dodgy goal in the 47th minute to put us behind last time out, maybe we can ride our luck again.

Random fact, courtesy of Fighting Talk...
Scott Parker has been wiped out on the touchline in Bournemouth's last two games, so if it happens again today that'll make a hat trick.
If one of theirs does it, he gets fined.
If one of ours does it, he gets an airfryer.

I’m not expecting a result today but just want to see a better performance. The midfield needs to improve drastically and I really hope Critch has something up his sleeve that stops us getting overrun on the right hand side of defence. Would be great if Garbutt could get chance to do what he does best but until the RWB slot is filled I’m not sure what can be done. If Stewart and Dougall can get some minutes in that should at least give Garbutt a little more freedom to push forwards and allow Ward to play in a more natural advanced role.

If NC starts Keogh over big Marv again, I might just go a little mental.

Otherwise, want to see Stewart dragged off his sick bed, plus starts for Lavery, Yates, Bowler & one of the shining lights: Carey.
Bench for CJ

Apart from us Pool fans, all and sundry predict a banker home win.
Please Neil, don't put a team out to try and defend a 0-0. You've nothing to lose here so let's be up and at 'em from the start and put them on the back foot.
Let's outscore Bournemouth.
COME ON YOU MIGHTY POOL.
