The summer transfer rumours thread.

According to Nixon (on Twitter) we’re putting bids in but we’re playing it very safe on the figures front. Nowhere near what Sunderland, Forest, Crewe or Shrewsbury wanted for Embleton, Gabriel, Dale or Vela. Obviously not our money to spend and I completely understand the club being frugal in the current climate but I am beginning to think we’ve shot ourselves in the foot as we seem to be into option no. 3 (at least) for a RB in Vela and still it doesn’t look like it’s going to be accepted. The closer it gets to the end of the window the more desperate we look and the less likely we are of getting great value.
On the RB front I am wondering if the recruitment team dropped a bollock this summer. We should have had at least a back up RB on the books to avoid looking too desperate.
You really haven’t a clue as to what is going on behind the scenes…

Here's one possible: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Kane

Was QPR's first choice but got himself into trouble at the end of last season with some semi-racist abuse, seemingly available and currently training with the U-23 squad.

27 years old, wages of £7,000 p/w should be manageable, a good move?
I seem to remember Kane playing against us when he was at Blackburn and thinking he looked a decent player. Plenty of Championship experience.

Most of our ITK posters have all retired it would seem. As others have said, a fair few of our signings weren't even on Mr Nixon's radar never mind ours.
Most of our pre season signings are settling in reasonably well and I look forward to more undiscovered, unsuspected gems joining them.
Nearly all the many signings last season came good and possibly exceeded expectations. I don't think many of us had a grand or so lumped on for promotion.
Not saying we'll do that this season but as this squad gells, additions are slotted in and we get into our stride then I think we'll be fine and have us a good, watchable, exciting season of championship football

A lot of people are panicking right now (which is reasonable), but we just have to trust Critch and the board.

Last Summer transfer window we had started the season and the board reacted by bringing in Dougall and Viking in on deadline day.

I have full faith we will see 2-3 players that fill the gaps come through the doors by next Monday.
Me too. 👍

Bloody well hope you're right. Keep the faith!

"Asked about any ‘irons in the fire’, the Seasiders boss admitted: “Our irons are sitting outside the fire at the moment looking in but we are looking at some areas we need to strengthen."

"Obviously, with the injury to Wardy, that might be an area we need to look at because we might be a bit thin on the ground there, as well as in one or two other areas.”

We're still in for Gabriel, just have a feeling that Forest are the ones who are dragging this one out and are waiting for a replacement.

We're surely not naive enough to stay in this late if we didn't think we'd land him before the deadline.

At the moment Gabriel is pretty much the only senior full back Forest have on either flank, I think for them to let him leave would mean them signing at least 3 others first and if they were to let him go what does that say about what they think about him?

I think we need to look elsewhere.

And if Forest pot their manager this weekend should they get beat by Derby, then Gabriel isn’t going anywhere in this window! IMO

I agree but would Forest be so stupid to sack a manager 2 days before the window shuts ! If Hughton can't get a tune out of those players then I'm not sure that anybody else will be able to. Sack Hughton and possibly be relegated by the next window imo.

Depends.

It can be the best time to sack a a manager if you don't have money to spend. Sack him a month ago and all candidates would ask about a transfer budget in August. Sack him now and there's no time to spend, but he's snared with promises of January....then he's tole there's no value etc...

I think they would, Forest are renowned for getting rid at the earliest opportunity as they suffer from Big Club Syndrome.

18 year old Fin Back (son of England RU player Neil Back) came on in the last Forest game at right back and reportedly was the best player on the pitch.

Football Lg World seem to be confident it’s ex Crewe midfielder Ryan Wintle from Cardiff City on loan. They only signed him this summer.

Forest sign a full-back. Left-sided but hadn’t JG been covering there?

Yes, I doubt they would want to rely upon an 18 year old as their main RB though.

At FB Forest have got:
  • Back - 18 y/o as mentioned;
  • Tutu - on loan and injured already (with a poor injury record);
  • Bong - 33 and by all accounts s***;
  • Jenkinson - has been told he is surplus to requirements and doesn't have a squad number
  • and Lowe, just signed at LB.
So realistically Forest would need to sign at least one first choice RB before letting Gabriel go, but the question is why do that and let a promising player go at the same time?

If we sign Reggie Cannon it would easily break our transfer record as he is easily worth anywhere between 4 and 6 million pounds.

This tells me two things;

1) Sadler and the board are VERY serious about splashing the cash to fill our gaps.

2) We are putting pressure on Forest (by going after their #1 target) to help get us Gabriel.

Either way the simple fact that we're in for Cannon tells me all I need to know about the club's ambition over the next few days; we are going to be just fine.

Where in the great goose are you plucking 4-6 million pounds from 🤣🤣 you have to be on a wind up

Listed as 4.40 Million here.

Not ridiculous at all to suggest that a 23 year old full international playing in the Portuguese top flight would go for that much.

Never in a million years are we gonna sign someone for that much when we're pissing about/can't afford Embleton and Gabriel hahahahahahaha

Reggie Cannon cost Boavista up to $3.5 million and there was also a large sell-on clause in that deal (min 25% up to 50%). He would cost us a small fortune, but the upside profit might be a risk worth taking.

As opposed to Sunderland who have won fuck all Forest are very much a big club.
Any team who have won the European cup twice (champion's league) for our younger posters, have got to be up there.
That's why I laugh when the likes of Sunderland, Newcastle and the Sheffield clubs bang on about how 'big' they are.
Yeh, biggish crowds but where's your trophies?

The past don't mean shit

Forest during that golden period were a joy to watch and played some fantastic football and as you mention the other so called 'other big clubs' have never won anything like, but it’s well in the past and they are a struggling championship team and the sooner they realise that the better.

Just cause NF won the champs league a lifetime ago does not mean they are good now or a big club. Don't be so naive
So you'd class Newcastle, Sunderland and the two Sheffield clubs as bigger?
Don't be so naive.
It wasn't a lifetime ago when Forest won the European cup. Are Villa not a big team either?
