The January transfer window rumours thread.

Agree that the big difference is that he is wanted by Premier League Clubs. However, he cannot be considered to be Prem Ready - he is still a gamble after playing only half a season in the Championship. Bowler going to NF is less of a risk as everyone knows what he can do in that league.
Prem clubs think Johnson has what it takes. Bowler was at Everton and got dropped, he left for nothing. No prem club will pay good money for him til he demonstrates the ability to do what's required.

You missed my point. I was talking about proven ability. Bowler and Johnson are only proven (for half a season) at Championship level. I was not arguing about what Prem clubs think. This shouldn't reflect such a massive difference in Prem clubs value of Johnson and NFs value of Bowler

I didn't miss the point tbh, it was clear what you meant. A prem club, possibly more than one, has made a judgement that Johnson can step up and offered a big fee accordingly. No prem club has reached the same conclusion with Bowler, who was at a Prem club til the summer and was released. A championship club can't and won't offer anything like the same, it'll be a fraction. And it is a fraction that's been offered. Voila.

Dimi Mitchell to Hibs ... had his moments, but possibly one we could afford to lose to free up a squad place/wages?

If we were able to get a decent fee (maybe 250k?) for him I think that wouldn't be bad business. He's probably on a pretty decent wage too.

His contract goes until this summer (with the option for another) and the club already have several wingers ahead of him (Keshi, Dale, Bowler)

He showed glimpses in pre-season of really nailing down that RW position, but that injury really came at a bad time.

Agree , we can afford to lose him for the right price (same as anyone) he has real pace but just lacking a bit of confidence , think he will be missed in the dressing room as from what we have seen , looks a character .

I think we're playing a bit of a waiting game right now. Forest to come for the right bid for Bowler which will then trigger the rest of our movements this window.

Let's just hope we don't sell at the last minute and leave it too late to get someone in

Mitchell is a difficult one for me, in a squad of 18 he is an asset. I would have hoped he would of established himself
in the 1st 11 by now. At the end of the day we all want a winning team to achieve that we buy & sell. Come the 31st
if he goes & we bring in Kirk I would say thats a plus. I also think if we get Jay Fulton that would be a big step forward.

Seems there's quite a lot of upset and angry people in Oxford at the minute! Because of our atrocious behaviour. Looks like Robinson is a bit of a stirrer to me. I'm glad he turned the job down for us. Not fit to lace Critch's shoes. It's interesting that Oxford as a club seem ok with dissing another club over negotiations whereas we never talk that way about anybody. Probably just Robinson though. Be funny if he signs for us on the deadline.

Seems to me that just because there's a buy out clause in his contract they think that means he's worth it, and by extension anybody we other as part of the deal is worthless.

I think at this stage we should walk away and see what the situation is in summer.

Considering the University association, I couldn’t help but notice that the spelling, grammar and general intellect on that forum is appalling.

I’m starting to wonder whether they pile into those 3 stands to stare at the car park behind the goal because they clearly don’t know a right lot about how football works.

More grist to the mill ... sounds like pure agent talk

The lad's out of contract this summer according to Wiki, so any fee should be modest.
Maybe we can add Jeando Fuchs and do a BOGOF deal?

That article also says...

"The Seasiders are still in the market for a central midfielder after Ryan Wintle was recalled from Cardiff City, however it isn't expected at the moment that they will look to fill the left back gap left by Luke Garbutt's injury."

Latest from Scotland is Ellis Simms on loan to Hearts😠 I hope there is no truth in this. If he is to go out on loan surely he would be better coming to us! I can’t believe NC wouldn’t want him if available

Maybe Hearts pay more than we do. Quite possible. Perhaps Sadler wants us to develop our own players now we are in the Championship. More hurry to get out of League 1 than to reach the Premier League. A greater need to increase the value of our own players and make some profit to pay for things. Forwards get the highest prices. Players like Lavery and Yates. Beesley bought for the same reason. He'll want these 3 to play and develop I think.

Clubs and indeed players (particularly young ones) very rarely go to the same loan club twice……PL Clubs like them to further their development by sampling different cultures, places, coaching methods, dressing rooms etc

Daniel Ballard is a good example of this, we were back in but he and Arsenal wanted him to go elsewhere (admittedly it was also as they thought Millwall would fare far better than us in the league)

Agreed, think we'll only be bringing in loan players from now on only as a last resort to fill gaps.

I think the current squad with no new additions is more than capable of seeing out this season. With a few back from injury we may even be able to push into the top half of the table. No need for any panic buys!
We need to strengthen midfield, given that Connolly is currently starting there. If Dougall got injured we'd be completely knackered.

Connolly is not too bad as cover and a vital utility player for Pool. Not sure he would be first choice in midfield especially if we have aspirations for promotion but I do not understand all the negativity surrounding him

Where is your evidence that it would be better Simms coming to Blackpool?
Is it because you support Blackpool and you'd like Simms to play for Blackpool?🤣🤣
Unfortunately football doesn't work like that🤷‍♂️

Not too bad as cover perhaps. But he's not looking comfortable in midfield.

Rochdale signed Luke Charman from Darlington recently to replace Jake Beesley. Yesterday he played in a Central League game against Bolton and scored three, got an assist and had a goal disallowed in a 5-0 win! Decent start.

I think our defensive midfield 2 are often outnumbered whoever plays. Others in midfield area operate very wide which leaves gaping holes in central midfield.
This gap may be plugged with attacking midfielder such as Carey but that relies on a change of system.
We have not conceded many while Connolly has been operating in DM and most issues have come from fullback area, so I would argue he is perfectly adequate if we are midtable but need better to push on.

A lot has been made about our shortage of midfielders, as it stands we have Dougall, Connolly, Stewart and Robson. It seems both Virtue and Carey aren't a million miles away and will be back in a few weeks. On top of that we have some promising young players who, if we were to secure our position in the Championship early, could be worth giving minutes to, to assess their progress/readiness. I still think we'll bring a central midfielder in but we shouldn't be paying silly money. In Brannagan's case, if they fail again, I'm sure we will be able to sort a deal.

Edited to add Robson
