Appy's interview with Lancs.

The only thing I would’ve liked is to just give an impression that he’d done his homework - for instance - do you need to bring players in - yeah we’ve lost Sterling, Kirk and Robson and so we need new blood.
Of course as the interviewer said he knows most of the players and will have done homework on them all when he was Lincoln manager.
One other thing I would’ve liked to have heard an answer to .. ‘you have an opportunity to manage the games first openly gay footballer, how will you approach that’ .. think it would have made for an interesting answer.

I agree, liked what he had to say particularly around his reason for leaving - very honest I thought. You definitely get the impression he knows he has a lot to prove to win over the fan base. Looks like we will be looking to exploit the loan market again and buying younger players we can develop which is good. The style of football will be interesting and whether he plays his best 11 regularly rather than Critchley’s constant tinkering.
Yep, good interview. My initial reservations are disappear

I think the openly gay footballer thing needs putting to bed, Jake is so brave in coming out and has changed football forever for the better which is amazing, but, now it needs to be solely about his football career and progression. He knows we need more players he said in the interview - he also might want to ship one or two out so I think we will be busy until the end of the window.

A good interview.
He comes across as determined, honest, hard working & forthright. His experience shows, in that he speaks with more confidence than Critchley & is far less ponderous.
Lose the beard Michael, as it makes you look like a nice grandad & not a tough footballer / manager, that we know you are.
No fist pumping or badge pounding antics please, just do your job and win games.
Good luck & UTMP

Do you not think it is more about how he would have answered it than it being about Jake. It’s a unique situation and was always disappointed we heard nothing from Critchley. I think it’s a valid and actually important question.

I get the sentiment but Jake should, and I am sure will, be treated no differently to anyone else. Would you ask how will you deal with a player with mental health problems or how will you deal with Bez? No, you would not do why should Jake be different? He will of course get all the advice, media training - not that he appears to need it though as he is very eloquent - and support required by the club and of course Appleton.

I always thought Critch interviewed well, but that was excellent. All those who are stamping their feet and eating worms need to listen to that. Very articulate and he really does deserve our support. We need to turn the atmosphere up a notch, not turn up with a scowl on your face.
Spot on, negativity will get us nowhere most likely.

Good interview, comes across well and the realisation that working for the scum wouldn’t work, might sing his name now.

Appletons tangerine army 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊

Is that how we judge management potential nowadays? 🤣
It is factor in how we judge managers - how they come across.
I've also looked at how he's done over the last few years, the reaction of the fans at those clubs, the belief of our owners as well as what happened 10 years ago, albeit in very different circumstances.

The actions of our owner over the last 3 years should lead to us supporting the manager, or at least giving him a chance. The alternatives won't work out very well.

A brilliant interview, measured and intelligent. It's a results based industry and the proof of the pudding etc.
Simon Sadler wouldn't give a 4 year contract to a second choice bumping weight. Truly hope he succeeds and hope we are pumping out Appleton's Tangerine Army....and that's from me who didn't want him initially.

I’m up for it!! Attacking football and a bloke who looks nails
Yep I have a feeling hell dwlivee it more than Critch did too.

Plus if there's any fights he may fly in.

Just watched the official ttv interview and another good one.

Ffs leave it out!!

I’ve not heard the interview but obviously he comes across well.
As Voy said though, do we judge a manager on a good interview?
The fickleness continues with quite a few doubting his selection but then a big love in because he does well in an interview.
So he can talk the talk, lets hope he can walk the walk.
I mentioned on another thread that (against all my principles) I have a gut feeling that he is not the man for the job but, as always, he will get my support and I hope he proves me wrong.

Another manager that had just gone round the manager merry go round, needed someone fresh , my opinion

I think I'm up for it too. Appleton is well up for it I reckon. He's sort of basic, not the modern manager at all, but would tunnel solo through a mountain, I think. Still trying to make up for his ruined playing career. Total opposite character to Critch, who is the nice guy, and struggled with the multitask pressure I suspect. Appleton looks like he thrives on it and is hell bent on succeeding, and will rip trees up if they're in his way. I think the change might be refreshing. Maybe not for 4 years though!

4 years? Why?!!! 🤣

He says "it's one of them" a lot. Hope he's saying it after a good start to the season, because another cold start was my main worry for our second championship season. He's got from Day 1 of training / testing, so I I'm happy we've got the manager position sorted in a timely manner, and with an experienced manager

I disagree with an earlier post that Critch was good at interviews, he always seemed to look uncomfortable and looked everywhere except the interviewer, even when we'd won. MA answered some potentially awkward questions quite well, I don't think this is an area MA will struggle in as a nr 1,.

He also seems to get it that some of the fans aren't going to be happy, and doesn't appear to be fazed about it.
Also realistic about funds, overall I'm more optimistic about next season.

I would have thought he, like most right minded people don’t give a monkeys about anyones sexual preferences. So why should he be asked questions about it? In the case of Jake I would assume that like me and the vast majority of fans his only concern is if he can play football and improve the team.

Maybe my "I'm not renewing our season tickets" was very flippant yesterday but I really didn't think we would appoint him but as the dust has settled and I have had time to think it over I will give the guy a chance,he could be a good appointment but we need to give him time,we were all against heckingbottom before we got Critch and he has done well a sheff united, time will tell but we need to back him and give him a chance to prove us wrong 🧡🧡🧡 UTMP

He’s obviously an old school football manager rather than the new fangled head coachery type. If little things are changed I think they will go in a more traditional football management direction.
