Connolly, Virtue and Carey

They wasn’t in the 18 man squad last Saturday
Maybe fine with being on the bench but would love to see the team that started the second half start tomorrow. We don’t want or need an unsettled team all the time

Unless somebody is injured or suffers a big drop in form it should be Saturdays 18 for the rest of the season.

I'll Bet if you asked 100 people on here who should be in the 18, you'll get 100 different responses. I for one still wouldn't have Norburn anywhere near the squad let alone an automatic starter and even less so captain. Still undecided about coulson as well despite him having his best game so far for us.

Who are the alternatives to Norburn as a number 6 in our squad?
Virtue is a possibility, might be an alternative to Norburn but is he better? Games often pass him by and although unlucky with injuries he has failed to ever nail down a regular starting place.
Connolly!!! Only in the deranged world of Mick McCarthy, who also made him captain!!
So that's Norburn in for me.
We are definitely playing wingbacks this season that won't change, Gabriel playing on the right and Coulson on the left has looked much better than the set up we had earlier in the season.
Hamilton and Lyons can also compete for that starting place and offer alternatives from the bench so options are good there.
If there is anybody who should be nowhere near the 18 it's Connolly closely followed by Carey, Virtue maybe a little unlucky, hard to say, I'd like to think most of us can agree on that.......but I'm sure I'd be wrong.
 
Coulson was excellent on sat prob the best I have seen him play .The three mentioned are not good enough but I guess most of us know that

I’d say they have become the deadwood in this squad. All have had a chance and are simply not good enough for the first team.
 
We all have players that we don't think are good enough , yet if they are on the bench or starting the game there must be a reason behind it and I would rather have the coach or manager make these decisions ,even Critchley ,then someone who has no knowledge of what is going on behind the scenes or on the training ground. Also I like a couple of the players mention in this post and I would possibly play them.

virtue can play there, is Norburn better than Virtue, personally i dont think so. if you want to talk about games passing players by norburn is almost a dictionary definition
connolly is a far better defender in that role, or more accurately has been until this season, but he suffers the same problem as Norburn

Byers ive not seen enough of to really make a judgement but im sure hes a better player than Norburn and is in what ive seen so far more involved.
Morgan, definately can play the role, can distribute the ball better, can drive forward, a better tackler than Norburn. up against a towering attacker he may come unstuck but that is Marv's role, which is another of my norburn critiques in that he is often in Marv's way.

Byers, morgan or Virtue for me, and if we actually need out and out defence then connolly,

yep, utter tosh. Next you'll be telling us that Hamilton was a far better player than Bowler. Stick to the other side of the board where you can pontificate to your hearts content..
 
Everything else you write is a debatable but Connolly struggles to play in any position, he isn't better than Norburn as a CDM and should only be on the bench if there is nobody else to sit there.

We're talking Defensive midfielders here not box to box players like Virtue.
You can't just put MV or Byers in that role we'd get slaughtered,it's like comparing Gabriel and Coulson two totally separate roles.

but norburn is not by any stretch of anybodies imagination a defensive mod, he cannot defend
