Gabriel’s withdrawal at half time

Woke up early after ( perhaps having had a nightmare based on our away form 🤣) and thought I’d listen to the post match presser

Can’t believe what I’ve just heard - Gabriel was withdrawn for tactical reasons

I’d assumed he’d picked up a knock

No elaboration offered

Can anyone think of any cogent explanation for the thought process for that tactical change because I’d be damned if I can

If that's true then it just adds to list of poor decision making from Critchley last night, had a shocker all round

Nah,it'll be probably because he was trying to get forward too much and looking as though he's back enjoying his football again
It does remind me of the end of Grayson’s second spell where he’d bollock the fullbacks for crossing the halfway line.

I said elsewhere that Gabriel was the catalyst on Saturday with his energy and enthusiasm. First half last night he was by far our most influential player. Everything good came down the right.

If he took him off because of the yellow, that is madness, when the likes of Connolly are odds-on each game to get a yellow. It would though underline NC’s pessimism and negativity.

I still remember the first time Critchley was here in our promotion season when he was consistently telling Kenny Dougall NOT to shoot in games. Do others remember that ? It came from Kenny himself and was a bit of a joke following what he did in the Playoff final. It just shows the negativity ingrained in the man .

Because he is the TINKLE MAN great at taking the piss out of us and his own players.

The amount of matches that we have surrendered this season due to Critchley's safety first tactics is unbelievable. We would do better just sending the players onto the pitch and letting them work it out for themselves, at least they wouldn't be playing with the brakes on.

Gabriel was on a yellow and had looked poor both defensively and also going forward. Mind you, he was no worse than the rest, who were sloppy with their passing, got repeatedly caught in possession and didn't appear up for a fight on 50:50 balls.

Critch never makes substitutions until its too late. Critch out
Critch makes a substitution at HT. What's he playing at? Critch out.
Why didn't Critch start Andy Lyons? Critch out.
Fans favourite Andy Lyons comes on at HT. Critch out.

For the record I wouldn't have made the change.

Never mentioned the yellow card, he was asked if it was an injury or anything and Critchley gave a curt reply that it was tactical. What really bothered me about his comments were that he knew it would be a tight game and that it would likely be one goal that would decide it, the way he was talking he had told the players that it would be tough and that 0-0 would be a good result but let’s try and sneak it, why can’t he just say to the players Orient are a decent side but we are better and let’s go and score some goals? He also said that Orient didn’t play how he thought they would and had changed tactics from what he was expecting, I mean how could another manager not play fair and change his tactics when everyone knows you should just continue with exactly the same tactics game after game.

He looked and sounded like he hadn’t got a clue and guess what Neil, you really haven’t

How about Critchley is a shit manager, Critch out? There it’s that simple.

The only way we were going to create anything though was with either through Gabriel or Dembele who are the only players we have who can do something 'off the cuff'.Gabriel's probably now thinking if I get booked I'm going to be subbed which will take the edge of his game.

What, he was head & shoulders our best player first half. Everything good came from him, including winning every header. Same on Saturday.

The Gabriel decision is baffling, if that's the case. One of the few players who genuinely always seems bang up for it and has a connection with the fans is being stunted by Critchley.

Not to mention being our best player in that position.

Being sat in line with our 18-yard line and seeing the defending up close in the second half was actually comical. They looked as though they barely knew what they were doing.

I wasn’t surprised that’s why I posted on the match thread that I predicted Lyon’s for Gabriel at HT. I am a big Gabriel fan but I did think he looked a bit leggy. The booking gave Critchley the perfect excuse to utilise his squad, which he loves even when his squad is not good enough. Feel so sorry for Lyons.

Connolly got a yellow exactly as I thought he would. Blatantly blocking someone making a run past him. After that, they attacked through him with impunity. Not subbed though...

The 4th Ref put the wrong number up and he meant to take CJ off. The Gaffer intended to play the two that did so well against Bolton. Officials cost us yet again.

I was surprised he started really after 3 in a week but then getting a yellow and having Lyons available I wasn't surprised Critch swapped them. It's only an issue cos Lyons got injured and we had to bring the snail on as our right wing back.

We have 53 points ….league safety nailed on… just thumped Bolton(top 3 FFS)…surely we should at least have a go at top six finish?
I’m beginning to form the impression that nobody outside of the fans wants promotion!….happy to plod along with the same old shit…build us up .. then put on a second half like that…concede at 52 mins ..then the next 40 plus minutes NO attempts at goal!!!!!!!
I make no apologies for still being pissed off….to lose is totally acceptable if things simply haven’t gone your way or the opposition are still just too good…provided you come off the pitch having tried everything to change the course of events…… not sure NC has the same mindset as me!!!!!!

So Critch in then? Great 🙄
That wasn't the point of the post. I think if you look at my posting history you'll see who I would have liked to manage us and whilst I could always see the logic of appointing Critch, and I still do, and Grayson for the matter, neither would have been my first choice.
I don't agree that algorithms will always come up with that right choice. Simon shouldn't have asked Alexa he should have asked Insider. 😁

I just assumed it was his obligatory do a couple of games/out for three months injury. But if he wasn't then I'd say Critchley didn't trust him on a booking with them running at him and was thinking about Huddersfield away a couple of years ago when he let that situation fester into a second yellow.

Reading the board, I'm not convinced any of the fans have ever thought we'd go up. The season has been over for months to listen to some talk.

Clearly the booking was a factor. But I also think Critchley might have been angry with him for some reason. Whatever it was, it helped cost us the game and Andy Lyons' season and possibly Blackpool career.
