Gabriel’s withdrawal at half time

The amount of matches that we have surrendered this season due to Critchley's safety first tactics is unbelievable. We would do better just sending the players onto the pitch and letting them work it out for themselves, at least they wouldn't be playing with the brakes on.
That would need a seriously strong leader on the pitch. I don't think we have one...Connolly, perhaps.

Critch never makes substitutions until its too late. Critch out
Critch makes a substitution at HT. What's he playing at? Critch out.
Why didn't Critch start Andy Lyons? Critch out.
Fans favourite Andy Lyons comes on at HT. Critch out.

For the record I wouldn't have made the change.
I’m glad you called for Critch out five times though.😁

Never mentioned the yellow card, he was asked if it was an injury or anything and Critchley gave a curt reply that it was tactical. What really bothered me about his comments were that he knew it would be a tight game and that it would likely be one goal that would decide it, the way he was talking he had told the players that it would be tough and that 0-0 would be a good result but let’s try and sneak it, why can’t he just say to the players Orient are a decent side but we are better and let’s go and score some goals? He also said that Orient didn’t play how he thought they would and had changed tactics from what he was expecting, I mean how could another manager not play fair and change his tactics when everyone knows you should just continue with exactly the same tactics game after game.

He looked and sounded like he hadn’t got a clue and guess what Neil, you really haven’t
Perhaps he thought every other manager does continue with the same tactics game after game. After all he does, away at least.

As suggested by others on this thread, Gabriel was our best performer by a country mile in the first half. Unfortunately, the Critchley that we have now is the QPR version and not the League 1 promotion version. Still, Sadler seems happy enough !

The other point is if he didn't want to risk Hubby why put him sub and where was Casey
He must be anchored to the naughty step
Casey dad wasn't not very happy on Twitter last night. Liking everything to do with fans complaining he wasn't playing, changing his profile picture to Casey in a Leeds shirt so it seems like something is going on there.

Probably best to fuck him off asap then tbh… He’s got too many mistakes in him and gets done for pace all too often in any case…

Can you blame him
Most fans would have Casey in our starting 11 and he was until the red card earlier this season - and playing well

For him not to make the bench is frankly poor

Clearly the booking was a factor. But I also think Critchley might have been angry with him for some reason. Whatever it was, it helped cost us the game and Andy Lyons' season and possibly Blackpool career.
You can’t blame anyone for the injury to Lyons. But you could sense after 30 mins that Gabriel was being hooked. He has played a number of consecutive games after a long injury and it was when he stayed down after a bad tackle that I sensed it would happen. Lyons would have wanted to come on. It is part of playing sport, but hope he is ok to return soon.

Husband was on the bench but was obviously not able to come on / play a part as demonstrated by Virtue coming on to play right back ! Brings the question of why Casey wasn’t involved in the squad ?

Connolly? Connolly!! No, no, no. Just bloody no. Not captain, not on the pitch, not in the club!! Connolly, no please no. Don’t even think about it.😉
I thought I might get that response. As a player, he's played in the wrong position. As a leader on the pitch I think he might have it.

I dont blame him at all. Casey not even being on the bench was bad, Connolly starting ahead of him is ridiculous. If I were him, I'd be fuming and questioning my future at the club.

He possibly could be better than anyone else we have. However, the first requirement is to be good enough to be a first team regular on merit. Not because you’re nice to the manager.🤣

I don't believe he is. I think he's a hard man who's got the guts to run the show on the pitch...if he was given the chance.

If he had started Lyons and Gabriel then 3 of those questions would be redundant! When I saw Connolly and CJ on the team sheet it was game over before we kicked off!

Young lad that is still learning and was arguably our best defender for the first part of the season and has barely played since. But yeah, let's just get rid.
He wasn’t ‘arguably our best defender’ at all… Not even close. You’ve just made that up.

If he’s behaving like a dick on his Social Media (like you suggested - and you’re not making that up too) because he can’t get in the side, then (given it’s not the first time we’ve been there with him) it’s best to get rid.

He’s not good enough to persevere with if that’s his attitude… simple as that really.

He hasn't said anything, if you read my comment properly, his dad is. Also go back to earlier games in the season and see the praise he was getting from most on here and all across social media. I haven't made anything up, you just have a short memory.

First half of the season before he got the red, he was one of the first names on the team sheet and if you go back to the threads on here of the games there were loads on here saying he was our best defender and his loan last season had been the making of him. I remember alot of post saying he was our player of the season so far. Pennington and Ekpiteta getting into form around the same period as his red was what initially kept him out of the squad and even then alot were wanting him in over Ekpiteta. You may think differently, but that was the opinion of alot on here and I shared that as well.

Go back and have a watch at our goals conceded in the games he featured leading up to the Red Card. The red was probably the final straw and in the end it was a case of reverting back to Marv, despite his ‘ball playing’ shortcomings, because it was the lesser of two evils.

Fair enough if it wasn’t the player… Though his Dad should maybe wind his neck in, if he wants to help, rather than hinder his son’s career.

It's a good job we haven't just signed him up to a new long term contract or anything like that then. Or else you'd really fear for us next season when the likes of Marv have moved on

I thought I wasn't remembering properly or that I'd missed something, so I've just watched the goals scored agaist us in the 6 league matches before he got sent off agaist posh. There was 1 goal he should be doing better with out of 8. I'd hardly say that was bad, especially for this division.

I suspect we’re on the look out for a suitable upgrade if Marv is on his way.

And hopefully at some point Casey’s Dad might cut the apron strings 👍

I’m pretty sure he got done twice in the Posh Game didn’t he ?

He was costing us games though Tim… that’s why he was dropped. He kept getting done.
No he didn't - he got a harsh red and never got back in
He's made far less mistakes that some

First Charlton goal at their place when Appleton made his subs. Chuks Aneke was too strong for him in the challenge and he trotted back with Alfie May left free for the cross in the box
First Cheltenham goal here when Will Goodwin got wrong side of him and it sparked their comeback when we nearly pissed a 3-0 lead up a wall
Ended up wrong side of Ricky Jade-Jones at start of second half against Peterborough in the league here. Red card, they scored the free kick and he got an extra game ban for giving the ref an earbashing on the way off
Cameron Jerome got wrong side of him last man on a flick on against Bolton in the EFL trophy and he bounced him out of the way but Rich O'Donnell saved the shot

He's not on his own because the set up and shape this season looks a mile off for being able to defend properly. Whereas in the past we've seen the midfield protect the defence a lot better and the defenders a lot closer to each other. At times it looks like we're starting every game with someone sent off out of what should be a back four. Matt Pennington way out of it last night as he was at Cambridge as a False Number 2 towing a caravan trying to get back for their equaliser. Marv with the ball at his feet and thinking time. Connolly giving up and letting an Orient player through on goal at the end last night. Not ideal is it.

Even back to Jordan Gabriel. RWB suits him now but in his first stint on loan Critchley lost trust in him doing a defensive job after he gave the pen away against Accy at home and he kept Turton in the team for the run in. Mainly used JG as a sub to sit in front. To me he looks as much of a right winger who got moved to right back in his junior teams as Olly Casey does a midfielder who got moved to centre half at Leeds because of a growth spurt. Nobody ever really shown these lads a trick.

If we start going through all the mistakes that our defenders have made this season, we will be here till Christmas. Everyone of them has made mistakes and cost goals. Look at Ekpiteta, he's made loads of mistakes that have cost us, even Pennington has and Husband has been done with the long all over the top multiple times. Don't even get me started on Connolly, but that's because they're league 1 defenders and that's to be expected. Casey for me, made the fewest mistakes and looked solid most games. I'd have him back in the starting 11 tomorrow.

You can argue that with any goal conceded that we could have done better and that X should have done this and Y done that
It's called hindsight
For me Casey is the defender most comfortable on the ball and being as I am frustrated with him being continually overlooked as a fan I can empathise with his dad

Yes, but with Casey, he’s made a number of cock ups in succession… Same reason Marv had lost his place initially…

He got his contract now he needs to be patient…, And to tell his Dad that he’s not a baby any more 👍

Definitely. Only so much can be done with the defenders we have and what is asked of them. Uncle Albert on commentary last night picked up on it straight away with how off it looked and how detached from each other they were when expected to pass around the hot potato.

Most comfortable with the ball, but much weaker defensively.

I meant games in succession … The Red against Peterborough was also as a result of him cocking up with his initial header.
Even if you are right he's a talented young player
Critchley is meant to be a coach - so make him better not banish him to the stands because he's not one of your favourites and play less gifted players
Jeez if CJ was pulled for every mistake he made he'd be training with the U10s
