Anyone else still get slightly irritated by the fact we gave the Prem a bloody good go, didn't ever really get humiliated (OK we also lost 6-0 to Arsenal but not in the same way the Blades did last night) and yet were relegated at the first attempt! I know the O's were at the helm but still irks me!

Chalk and cheese

39 points has been enough to stay up in every season since 2011.
Sheff Utd and Burnley both currently on 13 points with 11 games remaining.

Also. didn't an independent report say we lost around 8-11 points to incorrect refereeing decisions?
Home games v the 2 Manchester clubs were exceptionally poor imo (Dowd and Walton)

Ironic that Walton has earned money as a ref comm pundit passing judgement on other ref's performance.

Three cheers for him-

We could have done with a few shitters, that get about 19 points in a season. Every year the Prem has about two whipping boys now.

The Harewood disallowed goal at West Ham when they had 2 players on the goal line was probably the worst.

I was thinking about the juxtaposition of their fans streaming out after going behind heavily and our fans continuing to out-sing the Arsenal supporters at 6-0, anyway after that game against them last year I'm not shedding many tears for them.

We were very unfortunate to go down, only consolation is knowing that with the Oystons in charge it wouldn't have made much difference to our overall fortunes.

Also scored 55 goals. Relegated teams normally nowhere near that figure.

I remember singing “we’re going to win 6-5” and Wenger looking over with a massive grin on his face. I bet he was wishing his crowd could show the same passion?

And we had Evatt sent off early doors.

Ashavin(sp?) was looking over bemused at what he was hearing and asked Wallcott to clarify, then AA was good natured laughing. He referenced this some time later.

If you actually go through each game, not even counting the results where we had horrific decisions against us, there were rarely any games where we were played off the park. One that sticks in my mind is when we were fined for putting out a second string at Villa and lost in the last minute. Insane to think that clubs used to get fined for picking players from the 25 man squad…

We gave it a hell of a go and didn’t deserve to go down, whether in hindsight in terms of the Oystons it’s a blessing we didn’t stay up is a conversation for another day.

The difference now is that the gap in quality between PL/Champ is far bigger due to the obscene money thrown about and will only continue to get bigger.

Isn’t just coincidence the bottom 3 are the 3 that went up and 3 of the top 4 in the champ are the ones who came down.

... Because whatever 'fortunes' the club possessed upto that point, were soon to be plundered by the 'odious clan'.

Even then the table doesn't tell the whole story, obviously. I assume that the gave us a point v MU at home when in reality the decision cost 3 points. At 3-0, we weren't losing.
Stills grips me.
Man Ure were unbeaten in the league and I agree at 3 0 it wS game over.
They went to Wolves the following weekend and lost.

You say clubs. There has only been one team fined for picking a so called weakened side...

For a team that was tipped for relegation to league one the previous year, 39 points an 55 goals was an utterly fantastic effort. Never thought I'd ever get to see us in the top league, and our promotion was also the event that began the journey to oust the O's. Those players we had forever changed our club as a consequence, I hope they realise what legends they all are.
