Best team in the league?

The management team have right royally fooked this season up with their obsession over possession, one system whatever approach and the bizarre favouritism

We should be right up there
Bore Off! We have been in the top third of the division all season all but a couple of weeks.
Our home attendances are certainly not too 10.
We have an owner keeping the club afloat.
Massive Club Bolton are on their 3rd attempt to "try" & get out of this division.
Their fans were not demanding "Evatt Out" despite (unlike Critch) he has not yet got a team promoted from Div 1 to the Championship.
We beat them 4-1 by the way.
Why do you "think" you know more about football management & ownership than the owner or the manager???

Portsmouth are the most consistent at taking points from more games than everyone else.

We've been shite when we don't fancy it or Critchley hasn't been able to have a full week prep on the training ground first. Someone listed six of the away games we've lost earlier and I checked Portsmouth's results and they'd taken 11 points from the same fixtures and that is the difference.

League One isn't going to deliver much strength up to the Championship this year I don't think. But as a head-to-head competition you can see where they get their joy. Their players are just that little bit bigger, that little bit stronger. When they turned it on in the last 10 mins and Owen Moxon was putting corners right under Dan Grimshaw's chin at the end I thought here we go because look at their goals from set pieces. They do find ways.

It’s called having an opinion

I am allowed one If you don’t like it tough

I’ve said from the start of the season we had a team to go up

Repeatedly losing to teams in the bottom half has cost us

I thought today their football was poor, their approach was cynical, the manager was in the face of the 4th official once a minute. I felt today marked a seed change for us. We fought for everything and with 11 men I sure we would have beat them .But ,wouda, shoulda, doesn't hack it.
What's does is the fabulous unity in all 3 stands which all rocked today. They could have played till Christmas and they wouldn't have broken either the team , the players the manager ,and us lot!
For me the best game of the season , and for the first time in a long time complete unity of all our great fans
Have a great Sunday

The difference between us and them over the season is consistency that's all. Consistency is always the last to come when building a new team and new shape/style of play. We tend to have been really good or really bad. I hope we scrape in this season but if not we will be much better for it next season. Today felt a bit like the Critch team of old in the championship and it's not often I've thought that about these players.
I still think Peterborough are by far the best team we have played this season. They totally out played us twice.

You might want to pay a visit to their message boards to get a 2nd opinion on that!

Even the latest thread against pool there was twitching in the ranks, and a number of supporters had lost faith and wanted him gone

Again, if Portsmouth are the best team in the league we have missed a massive opportunity this season.
If only we'd been that strong, resolute and dogged against some of the crap sides at the bottom of the league who we have thrown away points from.
I thought they were poor for much of it, very little urgency even aginst 10 until near the end when we tired.

We may well have won that today woth 11.

We should certainly be higher but it is what it is, we had to recover from last season and also have been pants away for much of it.

It’s not trying to keep the ball that has cost us it’s a lack of physicality to deal with lumpball. Players like CJ will never put the tin hat on and battle. Next year we need greater strength and luck with injuries.

I get that - and we did that today
How many of those shoite away results would have been converted to points with todays approach
We’ve been as weak as xxxx in too many away games for me

You can't win games if you don't have any shots on target.

Their fans haven't been demanding Evatt out? Try going on their message boards and social media. Clearly you haven't!

Also, I haven't heard much 'critchley out' on the terraces either.

In my opinion he has underachieved this season. Too much pissing about with silly tactics and not playing some of our better players for the likes of CJ and Connelly.

Hopefully we can sneak into that last play-off spot but I think the odds are against us.

The best team doesn’t always play the best every week tho, just because they didn’t blow you away doesn’t mean they are poor or the league is poor. Cheltenham could say the same when they beat you lot 2-0 the other week…
It's hard to get that across to fans of EFL clubs as they only know their own and what they get to see as a snapshot twice a season.

Some of our lot got the Portsmouth right back (who was involved in the red card) and their midfield captain mixed up as they both have beards. Randomly jeering a throw-in taker on the opposite side of the pitch. Like a really shit game of Guess Who.

They’re top of the league because they’re big, physical and know how to manage games and the opposition. They win your Port Vale’s and Cheltenham away because they can. That type of team is how you get automatic promotion from this god forsaken league with shit refs. They’ve been here long enough and they know the drill.

On and off the field, we have been shambolic. Only now we look half decent with a solid midfield two and wing backs. All too late.

I mean what do we expect when we play the likes of Connolly left wing back and Kouassi upfront.

Pathetic performances all around.

It’s nothing to do with other clubs and their ambitions. We have missed a huge opportunity this season. It is unarguable that we have thrown away points due to our passive approach in many games.

Tbf we entered this season on the back of a car crash last season, takes time to turn things around and implement a new system, we had Big Marv off form, a not very good Thompson and an injured Gabriel, Big Marv on song Coulson and Gabriel is a massive difference in defence, midfield Carey hasn’t grasped his chance, Kenny decided to F off somewhere sunny, Byers has made a big difference his experience and hard graft is allowing Norburn to shine, Beesley Rhodes Lavery Joseph injuries to overcome, we are looking at our strongest now, I’d like to think Critch has had a big part to play in that.

Portsmouth seem to play in the same way, maintaining possession, very slow and constantly passing sideways and backwards, no urgency at all and all very predictable. Probably played into our hands a bit yesterday when we went down to ten. How they are top of the league is a mystery to me.

The best team doesn’t go up, it’s the most consistent, that’s why you see teams that finish top sometimes struggle most in the next division
The best team is the most consistent. It’s not a Cup it’s the best over a long season. They all have highs and lows but in the end the the cream rises to the top. Barnsley are better than Lincoln, but everyone can beat each other on any given day.

A 5,6 and 9 point gap on the teams beneath them should be enough to get them over the line but nothing in their team that would make me think they are in for anything but a struggle next season!

Maybe because he's been watching football for nearly 50 yrs and let's face it, most fans know more about football than Critchley and his failed system.

point is that pretty much from early on in this season we've never threatened or got close to getting into the top six. Overall, that's not good enough. Still time i suppose.

That's why Rotherham keep getting promoted from League 1. You bully your way out of League 1 not tippy f'ing tappy football

And how many times in those years have you managed a team to promotion?

I used to watch the A Team loads in the 80s, doesn't mean I can make an assault tank out of a 1974 Buick Lesabre and some bean tins.

We come back to this time and time again. Statistically, (and by some distance) the most successful clubs are the ones that retain their manager/coach for more than 2 seasons.

That takes strength by the owner not to just rip up the plan within 3-6 months of an appointment. It takes strength by the fans to realise that 2 maybe 4 transfer windows are needed to remove contracted players who cannot fit within a plan, or injuries have reduced their skill / availability.

We got relegated and lost most of our best players from last season. You’ve then got to rebuild the squad completely. Hope those relegated players still have the mental strength to perform after the horrors of last year, and new players can fit in quick.

I feel we have underperformed too often this year, but know we cannot keep rotating managers and hope to get lucky.
