Norburn

That's the problem with DM's they tend to go unrecognized in a teams performance but you need that anchor in your team.
Jay Spearing was the same never got many plaudits and was often criticized same for Norburn ,who had a great game yesterday the only issue for for me if we ever got promoted I think League 1 is his level.

I like Norburn. I always have. He plays the position well, wins the ball and keeps possession. I get sometimes he can be safe and occasionally he does ignore a forward pass to keep possession which is frustrating but it boils my p1ss when some dig him out constantly for going backwards when there is absolutely nothing in front for him except a hopeful hoof. Was excellent yesterday.

That was the Norburn I thought we’d signed yesterday. Tenacious, aggressive, leadership, organising and getting in the refs face.
His passing was more assured and only a couple of times did he turn and go backwards when the forward pass was on.

Let’s hope that’s now the standard from him.

Thought he was weak link in the team yesterday, I'm not sure where people are seeing his interceptions, and tackles. He was on the periphery of the action the whole game. His two tackles were both fouls, and I think he was at risk of getting sent off arguing with a clearly incompetent ref. Critchley had to get a long way outside of his technical area to talk to him at one point. When we needed to move the ball quickly he held it up. Byers on the other hand was fantastic the whole first half he controlled the midfield which we haven't seen since before Xmas with dougs in the role.
Also his standing over the ball at free kicks and seemingly encouraging kaddy to play it short to him at corners really gets my goat as well.

Another load of tosh but no surprise. You really haven't a clue about football and game management. You wanted to bring on a forward in Joseph to replace Norburn after Rhodes had got his red card. The only surprise is that you didn't suggest it was was your love child CJ come on to replace him. Stick to the other side of the board where politics is your thing. Leave this side of the board to those who know something about the game and how its played. One question though. Why do you always go missing after every bad game that CJ has?

Agreed. Not been impressed with Norburn generally this season but he was excellent after the red card.

And Byers looks to be one of those players who always seems to know where the ball is going to be.

I’m not his biggest fan but he was excellent yesterday. Doing the dirty work, breaking up play, showing plenty of battle and snapping a leg early in the second half. A captains performance. More please 🙏
That’s the sort of player he looked like at the start of the season but seriously went off the boil for large parts of it.

To be fair, there was a case for bringing CJ on when Bees went off, to give us an out ball. I'd bet it was given serious consideration rather than the like for like we went with.

....and that was later in the game and i still don't agree. You know what you are gonna get with Joseph and that is he'll put a shift in. He'll close down players, put tackles in, go for aerial balls and cover for other players. None of those attributes you can associate with CJ. Bringing CJ on could have been like going down to 9 men. So no, i don't think it would have even crossed Critchs mind.

If Norburn and Byers had been together all season I am sure we would be higher than we are. Last two games Norburn has been superb.
Exactly. Norburn worked WITH Byers, that is the key.

It's been so obvious that these 2 should play together to get the best out of each other, it beggers belief why it's taken so long.

Both fit.

Both play.

We were thinking along the lines of reverting to a back 4 & taking off a centre back & a tiring Dembele to get CJ & Lavery on for the last 10/15 minutes & really go for it. It could have broken the resolve & been disastrous or a masterstroke. But as it was not a cup final for once I'd agree Critchley was right not to change much.

I've been as critical as anyone about Norburn but that was his best performance in a Blackpool shirt by a distance. When we had 11 men, he and Byers were controlling the game. When we went down to 10 they never shirked a tackle and worked tirelessly, not to mention showing a bit of bite in a game the officials had lost the plot in.

Always liked and stuck up for him.
A talented tough player comfortable on the ball and a leader.
Midfield 3 of Norburn, Byers, and Morgan (when fit) with Rhodes and Dembele up top.

This is criticism for criticism's sake.

Byers signed less than 6 weeks ago and has started 6 of the 8 games in that period. Norburn started 5 of those 6.
I take your point.

I thought he's arrived earlier than he did. Seemed to have gone on all Jan.

I do reject the notion that he wasn't match fit as he played end of Dec and saw red and Morgan was preferred over sub Byers who I thought would be the perfect foil for Norburn essentially giving you 2 players- a better ON and GB. I would probably have played Morgan further up and brought Dembele on for him.

Maybe Norburn needed that. He hascome across as Mr Oversafe. On Saturday he really stepped up to the plate.
yep agree with that. i think most of us thought that when we signed Norburn we were getting a really top quality L1 player but to date he's not really proven that. But i also ask the question how many thought he'd be played as our defensive midfield player? i didn't. Did he play that role in all his time at P'boro?

Has he shagged your missus CP?

I think you can tell how much someone understands football by what they think about Norburn.

On his injury ...

Discussing the reason behind Norburn’s substitution after the game, the Blackpool boss said: “He just felt his ribs again, which obviously the injury he had earlier in the season. He carried on for a bit, and it wasn’t serious, but he just felt a bit of discomfort.”
