How would you take a penalty?

Love the City fans crying about their CL failings last night and blaming the pen takers.
However, what would be your pen tactic?
I'd be middle-top tucked in on the right side

I'm pretty shit at football, my default position for everything whenever I play is "'ave it"

So, I'd hit it as hard as I could and hope it was on target and the keeper goes the wrong way.

I'll always say, if it's on target and the keeper saves it, well so be it. Even that back pass last night, goes in if the keeper goes early etc - so I wouldn't criticise. I'm not keen when they don't hit the target - but even then, even though I'm disappointed, I'm not OTT with it.

All that said, I can't watch us take penalties - if I'm in the ground, I'll sit down, head in hands and go with the crowd reaction, if it's on the TV I leave the room. They honestly make me feel sick.

Even last night, even though in the overall scheme of things, I'm not arsed who wins, it still gets the butterflies going.

Yep hard to the keepers right would be my pen of choice, closing my foot slightly to get a good angle

My little girl just blasts them as hard as she can and hasn't missed one yet, My middle boy waits for the keeper and changes what he does every time he takes one, think he's only missed one

So the point is do whatever you are confident with

But don't miss

I think it’s time pens were dropped after extra time and the team who had all the possession/shots/shots on target go through on merit.
I’m no City fan but after their goal last night Madrid parked the bus and had no intention of going for that second goal even after City made it 1-1.
We always say penalties are a lottery so it’s time to drop them in my book.
Surely it would improve the game and stop teams parking the bus like last night as they would have to come out and attack much more.

The best way to decide the game is each team picks a champion and then they fight to the death using the corner flagpoles as weapons, FIFA might have to come up with some kind of compensation package for the deceased's family but apart from that it should be workable.

Anyway, side foot to one side, Cantona style, just pass that mother in.

Top half of the net either side. Keeper has more chance of saving a low shot if he dives the right way.

I’d go the other way and have pens after 90 minutes in a 2 leg game and sack off extra time. Bit unfair that 1 team gets an extra half hour in front of their home fans.

Possession stats can be misleading. The other week when we scored 4 against Bolton we had 37% possession.

Low, hard and never change your mind mid run-up was always my plan. Not that I took many penalties, certainly none with the pressure of a Champions League Quarter Final. I did score a shootout penalty in the annual Summer Cup '89 at the age of 13, so I have a 100% record on this subject. 😂

I’m torn on this. I do love watching shootouts when it’s not Blackpool or England, but it would make for a much more entertaining game if they were scrapped… maybe they should trial it 🤔

You’d just have to go off shots on target. Otherwise you would get daft pointless attempts.

Ivan Toney style, not looking at the ball and wait for the keeper to move. Would no doubt fall over the ball doing that!

Other than, hit with power down the middle into the roof of the net.

Matt letissier was the most successful penalty taker out of 48 scored 47 hi the bar with the 48th. England should employ him to advise England squad

Won Sunday League end of season competition back in the day with 9/10 past Blackpool reserve keeper. Just aimed low in either corner.
The one he saved was my best attempt.

I scored a good number of goals particularly early on in my football days. I took only one penalty and had it saved so I'll leave it at that!

What year would that have been? that's going back a bit

If you're good enough, which I certainly wasn't, the Ray Stewart method every time. Hard and high in a corner. Very hard in fact.

Anyone buggering about with fancy penalties should be given community service as a bare minimum, up to a custodial sentence in the more important games.

With hindsight I except from these strictures Wes Hoolahan.

I was alright at pens back in the day and thinking about it I always went bottom right (keepers left). Would give subtle look to my left and that’s where the keeper went.

Most the time i used to look left on numerous occasions during my set up before then passing the ball with pace as close to the right post (keepers left) as possible. Always felt I could eliminate more chance of error hitting them off my instep rather than laces.

I went about 20 years never watching a penalty in the ground. In 91 and 92 at Wembley, I stood watching the back of the stand. I've only ever seen the penalties on VHS :)

I ran half way round Wembley pitch to get a closer look when Dave bamber took his pen against Torquay gutted

I scored two. One I cannot remember anything other than cra*ing myself; the other hit both posts and it was a dreadful pen. My view is make up your mind and be positive. Liverpool had a pen taker way back who used to always put it on the under side of the bar.

In the situation of last night, or any big game, I would try to find out if the keeper had a weaker side, then I would smash it into his weaker corner , if he’s strong on both sides I would just smash it towards the top right hand corner as I’m looking at it

would have to be placed top left hand corner. not giving it the keeper. truely laughable . how much a week. at least a proper team went through.

i like the Gary Madine version against WBA, hit the ball so hard even if the keeper gets a hand to the ball its more likely to take the keepers hand clean off than be saved

A Powerful strike aiming slightly left of the keeper but due to my poor general accuracy, it jinks off the inside of the post and into the net leaving the keeper with zero chance and a replay on youtube that looks amazing.

Straight run up , not looking at the keeper(only with peripheral vision) As the keeper makes his move , shift the body left or right and place in the bottom side netting. Always worked for me, only missed one when it was so muddy, slipped on the runup and put it over the bar. 🤣
Bottle helps though !
That's my recipe anyway.

Wes at the Nobbers style for maximum humiliation of the opposition. But only against the Nobbers, otherwise go for the Gaz smasheroo over the goalie's head 👍

Short run up and give it some welly.
Think you’d have to vary the side to avoid being predictable. (I mean, the coaches do homework on this sort of stuff.)

CA refused to be drawn in by the questions about their two the other night after going ahead on 15 seconds and pen on 9 minutes to make it 0-2.

Then another at 1-1 which were both passes to their keeper.
@howtobottleit.com

Terrible penalties & some comical defending to boot. How come we nearly drew with them.

Low and hard and near a corner. Not only do keepers have to get over they have to get down as well. Hard and high is even better but more chance of missing the target all together.

Just take it, you’ve been caught speeding it’s irresponsible go on a speed awareness course if it’s available, they pick on you if you try to be funny, when they say what are the main reasons for people speeding definitely don’t say rushing to get to a speed awareness course i made that mistake and I looked like a massive ** although 2 people laughed
