From the Barnsley Message Board

It’s why an owner must choose a manager, allow them time to develop the squad and not panic in season 1.

Yes there are many examples of managers doing it in first season but they are far less than those who’ve had time to develop a squad and remove players who are under contract for 2 or 3 years for players that work to their plan. He was guessing in the summer. By Jan he knew what was lacking. By now he will know what did and didn’t work in the transfers.

It’s not Man City so what % of what he managed to sign matches his wish list?
So you will be this understanding if we don’t get promoted this season or next?

Probably despite his tactics and not because of them.
Personally i think we have one of the best squads in the division, there is some genuine talent there across the pitch, but critchley cannot or will not (apart from 900 minutes or so of football this year) use the players to their strengths, opting normally to force players into a rigid predictable system, which ends up in mistakes. our home form has been good, at least weve had good results but the footballl hs been tugid at times and weve had an awful lot of luck in the games weve won. It could be said that luck might be down to the manager / head coach as well, but i dont think its what hes planning in general.

Playing Oakley-Booth over Dembele at Fleetwood is nothing to do with installing confidence. It show pathetic management.

If we miss out by a point now…
That will be down to that worldie v us on that night in the last minute, or the last 8 mins at Charlton.
Perhaps even down to the recent 0 0 v Wycombe at home.
It's easy to point out where points have been lost, invariably, over a full season, it's not just down to a single decision / result

At Reading, Pool MUST come home with the 3 points to at least do our bit in the scenario. Please don't allow us to finish the season on a feeble draw or defeat. Whatever happens in the other matches, we just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope to end the season in the playoffs.
🧡UTMP🧡

Hope you are not too cracked up, btf...😜

There has been a lot of negativity towards the coach lately and I don't mind admitting to having been openly critical of his team selections, formations and tactics. My comment was in reference to that specifically, whilst we are still in the mix for a play-off spot.

We might be in the mix for a play off spot but with a decent coach in charge we may already be promoted

Critch is stealing a wage

100%agree about the squad...some really good players being played out of their position, and unfortunately, they get the stick for not being good in those positions...

Just looked up our record under King Billy in 91/92 when we were promoted. 76 points and terrible away 😉
Billy's team lost 9 away
Critchley's have already lost 11, with Reading to go.
Just think if Critchley's team had the terrible away record Billy's team had we'd be in 5th spot now with our destiny in our own hands🤷😉

Yeh, it's dead easy to point out where points haven't just been lost, they've not tried to win any.
For reference, check out our away form against bottom half of the league.
But remember what Critch says, "they're are no easy games in this division "!!🙄

And mentioned one as having a lack of ambition. I really don't see it.
You said “he’s happy in this division, costs too much to go up” crediting such remarks to posters. That equates to them thinking we have a lack of ambition. You knew very well what I meant, but if it makes you happy, I’m only too glad to play your silly games.

Is it? It's within a season, others have taken years.
Save your breath mate. Whenever a new manager takes over a club they all say it will take a few years to get where they want, whereas some supporters can’t see that and want instant success.
Critch has had constant abuse that his “system” won’t work and yet now it suddenly has worked and reluctantly people are agreeing.
If we miss out on Saturday then there is nothing stopping us taking this current form into next season.
Subject of course to what players we have available.

Interesting 👍

However Billy's fist pumps meant something...passion and loyalty.

...and as yet we are on 73 points and not in the PO's
So NC’s fist pumps mean naff all?
It’s called embracing with the fans (especially those who don’t slag him off)
Just imagine if, at the end of every game, Critch just walked straight down the tunnel.
The guy can’t do naff all right in some people’s opinions.

Cracks me up when people say "its time to get behind the club"

What do you think everyone is doing when they go to games, listen to games, pay to watch online and engage on discussions on message boards?
Think you’ve misinterpreted his post
He said it’s time for us “ALL” to get behind the club.
In other words some people need to stop continually moaning, because they do, even when we win.

I don't agree with them in any shape or form. They are wrong. That's why there shouldn't be any equivalence. I know people who have said they won't give Sadler their money because he doesn't know what he's doing.

I think they meant putting the silly hate to one side and not slagging the manager off. I’m only able to watch on tvv but that was the loudest I’ve heard us all season. UTMP! 🍊

You're absolutely spot on. Of course, when you view the inadequacy of our current position, "it's not just down to a single decision/result". Because, in truth, the reason we are almost certain to miss out on promotion this season is down to a variety of persistant failings: individuals being played out of position; persevering with a formation which no-one was happy, or comfortable with; our truly wretched away form; our complete misreading of certain games; a worrying tendency of failing to overcome 'weaker opposition' in far too many of our encounters - and so on, and so forth ...

To be fair, it's now beginning to look (rather belatedly) as though we have started to single-out these failings, and, thankfully, they are now being addressed, and rectified.

It is just such a shame there had to be such a show of lethargy before we finally finally got our act together ...

Yep people’s opinions, strange concept a Football Forum

The system 'suddenly has worked' because Critch has - rather belatedly - made one or two minor tweaks and adjustments, which have had a pretty profound impact. The thing I don't quite understand, is why, exactly, it has taken him virtually the entire season before he felt the need to actually act on these shortcomings - which had been so plain for everybody else to see months and months ago ...

And then he put the shackles back on by taking a striker off and putting on the totally useless Olly Nogood. Critchley's inability to effect positive change by way of astute substitutions is still glaringly obvious to see.
This (his use of substitutes) remains the one major failing in his tactical repetoire, and it's proving a rather persistant 'major failing', at that. Once he's overcome this hurdle, I really don't see there being any stopping us. I think he is just basically in need of a bit of a 'leg-up'. Any volunteers out there?

I do not agree with this "it takes time, and players need to learn formations" etc..

The majority of posters on AVFTT could have taken us up this season, and could easily have put out better formations.

Its endless tinkering that has cost us (possibly), and with one game to go, Critch still doesn't know his best starting 11
Surely this isn’t a genuine post

I reckon everyone who saw these failings should take over the manager role, piece of piss innit.

At the same time you could say the players have let the manager down in a lot of games this season because the ‘genuine talent’ didn’t appear. I think there have been mistakes and poor performances on both sides this season.
