Good for Oxford, I really hope they can do it

Not just because they are playing Bolton but i like the way they have shown some ambition of the last couple of seasons

Not many League One clubs would have given their best player a massive pay rise to stay, they have also brought through a fantastic Academy prospect as well as signing some proven quality players

They might not win the cost saving competition that many on this site want to win but they may just get promotion

Good on them I say

It also shows that you can lose a manager mid season and still be successful. That said, their brand of football over the 2 legs was painful to watch. It'll make for an interesting final, although I make Bolton massive favourites based on what I've seen of both teams this season.

It was, as you say, painful to watch but they got the right result. Ours, this last season, has been painful to watch and unsuccessful.🤷

My Dad and Grandad were both lifetime Wanderers fans, I was born in Farnworth but only stayed in their for around 3 weeks, moving to Wales, my first game was Bolton vs Blackpool, which is why I am a Blackpool fan, much to my Dad's disappointment at the time., but he finished up supporting Blackpool when we lived there.

So, I have to back the trotters for this one.

Only away from home.

That's why I can't buy into it's just us who are boring most teams in this division are.

My Bolton mate who's been to our 3 games against them doesn't find us boring far from it but maybe he's just got used to Lge 1 football.🤷

He probably wouldn’t, he only watched 3 games. One they won one we played well, so he wouldn’t. If he watched a full season of painful tippy tappy ultimately unsuccessful ‘football’ he may have a different opinion.

Definitely this. After only 2 seasons in the Championship it was a shock being back in League 1 realising how desperately dour and depressing the vast majority of teams play is. Spoilers, anti football, not much flair or finesse, just hoofball, high energy, dirty tactics, physical and one dimensional. Anybody can beat anyone depending on how many went on the piss the night before. The officiating too is ridiculously terrible.

Like most teams in this league then who play possession based football?

Oxford had their manager poached half way through the season when the were flying and went into a slump so have recovered well, albeit playing anti football. The must have spent a fair bit last summer, in wage commitments if not fees. But probably no more than us. Only got 4 points more than us. We should've finished above them I think. You could argue that Rhodes injury was why we didn't. Or Kenny's defection. Or our away form, or the system, or our timidity.

I don't think Bolton are nailed on to win though, Oxfords 'tactics' will probably keep it tight at Wembley.

💯 I've went to nearly 40 games last season and I can count on less than one had I've been wowed by the opposition side.

Third division football shite always has been and always will.

Is this there 8th season in league one on the bounce? Blackpool fans wouldn’t stand for that

I think they can do it. Was impressed with how they defended and did the dirty side of the game last night to protect their advantage. 4-3-3 with 2-3 players hunting in packs to win the ball back and loads of cynical fouling and acting up to waste time. You've got to be savvy in league one. They've also shown they can play a bit in the season and score goals as well but without the obsession with possession. At least since Manning left.

Bolton battered them at their ground on a bad night but it was like they had a wake up call after that. Manager learning on the job but a quick learner.

The other night Bolton had a pitch invasion for getting through and their players had the beers out celebrating like they'd already been promoted and it's a formality for them. So could get a shock.

Mark Harris would have been an excellent signing for us and rumour was we were in for him. Does that mean Oxford have a top 5 budget ?
He looks ok ... his goals per games ratio is very similar to Beesley this season .... I bet he’s on a lot more than him too.

They have Joint ownership ... so are probably in the top spenders / biggest budget category in this league … Its worth remembering they only just avoided relegation last season (before new money was invested into the squad) so in reality they should be at the top of the league challenging for promotion every season.

To be fair and reasonable, rather than picking up random sticks to beat our owner with, we have probably spent as much this season as Oxford. We have also given pay rises to a number of players since Sadler arrived, and we brought in players last summer that cost us decent money. Norburn, Joseph, Dembele, Rhodes, Pennington, Byers and Coulson, mostly wages but a couple of fees too. I'd say we underperformed considering what we spent, we must be top six spending wise.

Not that arsed but I’d probably rather Bolton went up to get rid of them for next season. I think Bolton will be more of a threat to us as they’ve been improving year on year.

I’d be more confident of us finishing above Oxford next season and that’s all that matters to me.
100% agree with this. Get Bolton out of the league and make it easier for us next season.

I think this is unfair. Last night was a knock-out game, a must get through game and for once we did the kind of thing Lincoln did to us recently, or Wycombe a few years ago in the playoffs. We've worked hard at a different side of our game that we didn't have 6 months ago (we flaked a 2-0 lead at home to Derby as evidence) - this could be the difference and certainly was last night. Not many teams will manage the pressure we were under at London Road that well and not concede a second.

Since getting our ass kicked at Bolton, we've scored 20 goals and conceded 5 whilst playing Peterboro 3 times, Stevenage, Lincoln, the 'in-form' Exeter. That was certainly not through anti-football. Massive kudos to Des for turning things around, so proud of the team. Now if only the council can approve planning permission on the stadium... 😍

At the time it was basically Harris or Joseph - both hard working, high energy forwards that suit out press. 19 goals... Let's hope he makes it 20 on Saturday. Also worth noting - look at his career history, it's a testament to those who look at years gone by and say 'he's not a goalscorer'...

Dembele didn't cost us a penny, best deal ever

Sure. If we'd done it I'd just be happy we'd got to Wembley, the play offs are just about nerves and winning. It was just shit to watch as a neutral, and I'm fed up with crap football! I want expansive teams to succeed, so I'll support those teams. Always.

Can’t stand Bolton for many reasons but I have to agree.

Think we did it one game in 46. 2nd half v Pompey down to 10 men.

Apart from Grimshaw’s time wasting & Gabriel being able to crunch a few, you look at the current squad we’ve got, there’s nobody stands out at all at having any of the shithousery you need in this league.

In a world far away from here… Oxford win the play-offs, Bolton and Evatt end things mutually, we have a shit start to next season season with Critchley happy after a 0-0 draw at home to Burton whilst playing Rob Apter for 5 mins in the Carabao Cup and we part ways in late October for Evatt to return and get us some much needed town halls on the pitch and back in the dugout 💪🏽

Hahaha after your season I get that. For us, this isn't our way and if we have to do it just ONE more time to get us over the line, of course as a fan i'll take it. As long as we don't devolve into a Wycombe, i'm fine with that! Appreciate it's hardly a spectacle though!

The Cameron Brannagan and his pond saga aside, every credit to them (yes I still have PTSD about that transfer saga). That's what football is about though (and better now they don't have that whingy scouse pr*ck in charge).

The Brannagan saga surely said a lot more about us and the ambition shown at time. I agree with you, it was hard to like Oxford with fat James Corden in charge.

I would prefer it if both teams lost...sorry.

Yes, I am scarred by 1996 but the Oxford players' constant time wasting and simulation really irritated me last night.

As for the WWs, where do I start?!

It's galling when you see Evo at the Murderers. We all know he should be with us.

I feared for Evo the other night. He looked like he was on the verge of a coronary when Barnsley came back into it. The fact he has been through the play-offs both as a player and a manager should count as an advantage but to be honest he looked rattled. I can't bring myself to want Bolton to succeed they were our main derby/grudge match when I first started watching on a regular basis in 1976. The way their fans were celebrating on the pitch might come back to haunt them.

I can't see us being Top 6 next season as things stand and so would sooner have a good local fixture and so good luck Oxford and @neyo!
